Newly released New World Translation still full of numerous errors and abuses
by yadda yadda 2 inthought i'd start a thread discussing all the scriptures where the watchtower translation committee has taken liberties and abused verses they've translated in the nwt.. worst of all are the numerous places in the christian greek scriptures where 'jehovah' has been inserted where the tetragrammaton or any equivalent of it does not occur in any extant mss and where the context could just as easily mean, or even more likely mean, the identity being spoken of is jesus christ rather than the father.
although in many places out of the 237 in the nt where they have done this the identity is clearly or most probably the father (jehovah) as distinct from the son (jesus), there are dozens of occurrences where this is not the case.. here are a whole lot more scriptures abused by the translators of the nwt, copied from the freeminds website (article written j bowman, scholar):.

Actually I think this is a useful thread because on Monday when we get access to the PDF bible we can check the scriptures in the OP to see if they've been fixed.
I'm also interested to see what the revised NWT does with bad NWT phrases such as:
'Exercise faith'
'undeserved kindness'
'publically declare'
And surely they'll get rid of that scripture about Jesus having a seizure!?

That's true yadda, throw in that comment from the AGM about how when Paul said to test the faith he didn't mean to test the JW religion because they already know it's true. How do you know something's true without testing/verifying it?

The sister proof comment was obviously a joke. Not a great one, and maybe not one a politician would get away with, but still just a joke.
The bum witnesses phrase is the real story here, combine with the prodigal drama/DVD and they're clearly going harder on the idea that bad associations does not just mean worldlings.

Have we seen the revised NWT yet? I know it's unlikely but they may have fixed some of these... they seem to have fixed John 17:3 for example.

Revised NWT: Goodbye to Jesus and the Adultress (problematic for JW DF/shunning)
by adamah infunny that the "new light" comes in the form of a willingness to scuttle a problematic account which long has been accepted for millenia now, but suddenly is not up to snuff since the wtbts correctly perceives the account as being problematic for their dfing and shunning policies:.
granted, nt scholars have long known the account is a late addition (it likely appeared in the margin in earlier texts, but was included into the body as time went on, long-ago promoted into the book of john).
great, but scholars have also long-known that the epistle of 2nd peter is unquestionably a fraudulent work, written long after peter was dead: i wonder why it wasn't dropped from the revised nwt, as well?

They seemingly have NO PROBLEM relying on Jesus' words, "Go therefore and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the son, and the Holy Spirit"?
Hmm... Have JWs ever baptised anyone in the name of the father, son and holy spirit?
Jesus said he came to fulfill, not abolish the law in the Sermon on the Mount right? Same sermon he said instead of eye for an eye, turn the other cheek, do not judge etc... which doesn't fit with a support for stoning adulterers.

Pretty much everything Jesus ever said and did is problematic for the JWs.
How would the GB expect Jesus to react if this event had happened? He was never going to say 'yes, stone the dirty whore' was he? The story is consistent with his character.

Paul did NOT mean to test the faith as in test the religion. We KNOW we have the true religion already
Was this a direct quote!? Talk about brazen conduct...

So John 17:3 is now going to say what it already says in every other bible translation?
Great stuff.

I am looking forward to reading the new bible, which probably suggests there's something wrong with me.
Of late I have mostly been off the opinion that the NWT's unreadability is probably its strongest point (from a GB perspective) makes it harder to follow the writer's actual thoughts, which rarely match JW doctrine, so do wonder if an easier-to-read bible will help us to reach JWs.
