If we learnt anything from the JW experience it should be that thought crime is not actually a crime.
Assault however, is.

Another problem for JW apologists
by Jeffro inthe 2013 edition of the new world translation renders 2 kings 17:1 as:.
in the 12th year of king ahaz of judah, hoshea the son of elah became king over israel in samaria; he ruled for nine years.. this is in fact a better rendering than the previous nwt, which stated:.
in the twelfth year of ahaz the king of judah, hoshea the son of elah became king in samaria over israel for nine years.. despite their improved rendering, the watch tower society still claims that hoshea's reign 'really' began in 758 bce, but that it was 'established' in the 12th year of ahaz.

Hey Jeffro
Is there a nefarious reason why they get this wrong, such as with 607, or is this just a basic error?

Do you miss the sense of superiority?
by Diest inthis is and odd topic but there is a part of me that really misses feeling that i knew more about the world than 99.9% of the people.
i spent so many years in school being the odd person because of religion.
i embraced it to some extent.

I remember my Dad telling me when I was about 8 that I knew the bible better than the local vicar... oh dear.
I think most of my life was spent feeling that I was terrible, but at least I wasn't as terrible as those people. There is some satisfaction in that, but I think I prefer respecting others.

The Right Religion Demonstrates True Faith In Jesus Christ
by pronomono inthe week of december 9th, i have the talk "the right religion demonstrates true faith in jesus christ" base on the reasoning book rs p329.
the following is the suggested material.. istruefaithinjesuschristbeingdemonstrated?
this involves appreciation of the value of the sacrifice of jesus human life and of his position today as heavenly king.

The problem with the idea of 'true' faith (being demonstrated by works) is it raises the question: Have I got that 'true' faith?
I like eyeuse2beadub's suggestion, talk up the moralism. 'Someone with true faith doesn't rush home after their hour is up, they don't walk slowly between the doors or take long coffee breaks. Someone with true faith doesn't do this, or that, etc...'
They will feel bad because they can't argue with you, it's what the Society teaches after all, yet they also know they don't do it, and so they don't have 'true' faith, and so maybe they'll give up, and it's only when you give up that you find out you never had to try in the first place.

Scratch a Christian and see the Intolerance under the Skin
by fulltimestudent ina bishop of the apostolic church (grandiose title, isn't it?
) in the cook islands, wants to ban local indians who are hindu's from celebrating their diwali festival.. he claims its blasphemy against the christian god, and that because the cooks islands is a christian country, no other form of worship should be permitted.. gotta love your average christian, don't you?
if they are banned or persecuted, they scream their heads off, but as soon as they control things they want to ban any alternative worship.. cooks bishop condemns diwali celebration as blasphemyupdated 15 november 2013, 14:52 aest.

Band, take a minute away from carving out your niche as the Christian who hates all other Christians and reread your post. It's a mess.
Tammy never denied that lots of people claim to have Jesus on their side, she said stating as much does not mean Jesus would agree. You said the same sort of thing when you said Jesus would support discussion. If you're going to attack her, attack her on something she actually wrote and apply some consistency to yourself.

Did I miss the post where Tec said the pentecostal pastor was not a true Christian? Or are you just reading what you want to read so you can go on the attack?

Why do so-called believers need my approval or that of any atheist?
by Band on the Run inrecent posts from those who may mistakenly consider themselves "believers" demand a safe haven in this forum.
they don't like associating with atheists or someone like me.
of course, there are hundreds of thousands of sites for christian discussion already set up on the internet.

Sure Jan, and I love discussion/challenges. But I think a lot of people also come here to validate their choice to leave the society.

You don't come across as very tolerant here fulltimestudent.
Perhaps you should spend more time considering your own reactions to others than worrying about other people. Change starts with you.
