By saying things like magic are bad, do the WTS imply that it exists?
by DuvanMuvan ini was wondering why they're so uptight about magical things (cough cough sparlock cough) and was just remembering some quotes in the publications about demons and stuff i saw on another thread and i seriously think that they believe this stuff is real.. once i asked my mum why previously she said not to watch magicians because they're bad blah blah when it wasn't real, hence the term magic trick.
she admitted that while most of them are probably innocent, she still thinks some of them (anyone heard of dynamo?
) have some demonic power behind them.. i seriously wanna hear some other views on this .

I just got to play householder!
by Laika ini was a little nervous and a bit dazed, i think i will do better next time.
he offered me the memorial invite, i told him i had jw family who would invite me and he got interested and wanted to find out more, so i told him i wasn't interested in the jw religion, he asked why and i said i find it too controlling.
he thought i was talking about moral rules so started on about how jehovah doesn't want to restrict us 'blah blah', so i pointed out that i meant they're not allowed to read certain materials which is wrong if it's as true as they are confident of.. he then went on about how satan uses false teaching to manipulate us and so we have to be careful of what we read.

Thanks all,
Blitz is an apt description Data dog, before I used my example about the Catholic he managed to complain both about the Koran and teenage pregnancy.
I couldn't keep on track.

Thanks Kate, I think I let him dictate the conversation too much though, he did about 75% of the talking!
I think he was a pioneer, though I base this on nothing but he was calling on me at 12.30pm when your average publisher would be down the coffee shop. We exchanged names at the end btw, do you guys think I'll be a return visit?
Another thing, when I said I had JW family, he responded 'Oh you have family in the truth?' JW language is so habitual they forget to turn it off with non-JWs which is a little embarrassing.

He thought I was talking about moral rules so started on about how Jehovah doesn't want to restrict us 'blah blah', so I pointed out that I meant they're not allowed to read certain materials which is wrong if it's as true as they are confident of.
He then went on about how Satan uses false teaching to manipulate us and so we have to be careful of what we read. I used the example of a Catholic, if he called on one this morning who refused to read his books because they don't come from a catholic source he would think he was not sufficiently challenging his beliefs, as you need to get different viewpoints to make a proper perspective.
He then started to rant about the Trinity, and said he wouldn't read a book on the Trinity because he knows it's not in the bible. I pointed out that he should have no fear about reading that book, that it would actually increase his faith if he could prove it false.
He then read me Psalm 83:18 and I was bloody freezing and couldn't work out how we ended up there so I told him I needed to go. He said he hoped to see me at the memorial, and wished me a good weekend.
I am sorry this story was not more triumphant!
He also had a child with him who kept running about in my front garden, he told the boy off, I told him not to worry about it as it gave me flashbacks to the horrors of childhood preaching.
Gosh it was weird to be on the other side! Have any of you experienced this yet?

What do you think are the future doctrine changes will be?
by thedepressedsoul inthe whole organization is going through huge and big changes.
it can be seen by names of departments, to how things function and teaches.
my questions to you is, what do you think the future changes will be, both in teaching and organizational matters?.

neverendingjourney,
Thanks, and I might have this wrong, but to clarify, from memory, they did away with 1935 as the end date for collecting the anointed (except replacements) but not as the start point for the gathering of the great crowd. Either way, people in the late 1930s (and later) who 'had an earthly hope' but have not survived are not part of the great crowd, which should be a problem.
Edit: I suppose it's not so much a change to 1935 they need as a change to make dying JWs more special than deceased non-JWs. They actually messed this up already by changing the 'sheep and goats' interpretation.

The Birth of the Universe - Scientific Breakthrough
by cofty inresearchers working with a telescope at the south pole beleive they have glimpsed light from the first "trillionth of a trillionth of a tillionth" of a second after the big bang.. a lot of work has still to be done to confirm the findings, but if it holds up it is one of the biggest discoveries ever.. _________________________________________.
...inflation came with a very specific prediction - that it would be associated with waves of gravitational energy, and that these ripples in the fabric of space would leave an indelible mark on the oldest light in the sky - the famous cosmic microwave background.. the bicep2 team says it has now identified that signal.
scientists call it b-mode polarisation.

What bearing on our lives, whatever happened we are all the result. Its surely more important how we exist NOW , and our dealings with our fellowman for the good.
But this is not really an either/or proposition now is it?

They need to do something with the 1935 date. Current doctrine is that you're a member of the great crowd only if you make it through Armageddon, you get a resurrection if you die before Armageddon, unless you died as part of a few unfortunate exceptions, and that the earthly hope was opened in 1935.
So now there's no difference than a JW who served faithfully for 90 years dying last night, and a worldly who has just died after years of debauchery. You both get the same resurrection and the same chance, no added benefit to being a JW. Since 1935 was nearly 80 years ago it means Jehovah opened up the earthly hope to people who had no chance of ever being part of the great crowd.
(Except that I can imagine barely anyone has noticed the above problem)

Thanks WTBS for changing the Kingdom Songs, you freed me!
by StephaneLaliberte inyesterday, i saw a picture of a family signing kingdom melodies together.
it made me realize a fact that i am somewhat ashamed to admit:.
for over a decade, i have been aware of the false prophecies, the deceptive statements, the lack of scriptural support for many core practices and other issues with the witnesses.

There must be a lot of talented JWs who could write great (or at least better) songs, but JWism is so tightly controlled they prefer to have everything written from the top, even when they're clearly not capable.
'We thank you Jehovah' is the song they used to finish off almost every Convention and it always created a special atmosphere, which I think is because it was an actual song of praise to Jehovah, whereas most of their songs are more about doctrine than worship.
Not any more though, they mangled that one too. *sigh*
