Hi all,
It's been a while since I've been here. Life has been busy, but I am now on 2 weeks vacation which allowed me some thinking room. And here's what's been on my mind.
We're all going to die. No matter what we do, our fate is sealed. I don't know about any of you who have more years of wisdom than me, but this hit me hard. Sure, we all say we're going to die some day, but how many of us actually dwell on the idea and on what it actually means? For the past week, that's what I've been doing. Everything I've done in my life and everything I will do will be forgotten, everything that I am and will be, will fade into nothingness. Everything I've worked on in life, everything I thought was important, everything I stressed and worried about, would have been for naught.
Now, from a thiestic point of view, our life here serves as a passage into the next realm. Yes, there are many takes on the core idea, but most faiths are quite similar. So, after death, we get reincarnated, we go to heaven, we go to hell, etc. But there is still the issue that everything we held dear while on Earth was futile, everything we stressed and worried about was pointless.
From an athiestic perspective, we have our life and when it's done, it's done. Which makes the reality of death all that much harsher.
So, what should we be doing with our life. What is the best way to make use of our life, to make it meaningful, to make it worthwhile?
Wealth? Success? Knowledge? Friends? Fame? Health? I think there is only one thing that we can do to make our life truly meaningful and that is to do our utmost to make a positive impact in the lives of those that we frequent. All the above mentioned things will be nothing when we are gone, however, changing someone else's life, and impacting it for the better will remain with that person(s) for their life and perhaps their children's lives. Yes, everything fades in the end, but at least we helped someone, we were selfless instead of selfish which too many people are today.
So, personally, I am going to do my very best not to worry about mundane things that I know will be meaningless in the end, and do my very best to help and positively impact anyone's life that I can. I want to focus on others instead of myself. Yes, a balance must be found, but I don't want to be known as someone who was successful, but didn't have time for others.
Those are my thoughts, I'd love to hear your take. I know it's a morbid subject, but it's something that has been weighing on my mind. Have you thought about this? What conclusion did you come to?
Peace,
Garrett

Is this doctrine still in in effect?
by WasOnceBlind inso something i never knew was the fact jw's were taught that jesus is only the mediator for the anointed class and not for everyone.
i only found this out after reading "crisis of conscience" and i was actually pretty shocked to learn so.
if that is the case, when they pray why even bother saying the words "in the name of jesus christ we ask"?

Wait what? How come I never knew this... I have never heard about this in my time with the witnesses... How strange. I wonder if they deliberately choose not to discuss doctrine that could potentially be very controversial.
Then again, maybe I never payed attention at meetings...

I'm not much of a gambling man, mainly because my wonderful dad made my family homeless because of it. On top of that, I don't have the money to spend on lotto tickets, I'm a broke guy eating ramen noodles morning lunch and dinner xD

So,
A witness friend wanted to meet up recently and talk. Since this person was a close friend and who I thought had a level head, I'd go ahead and speak with him. Our conversation actually helped me figure a few things out not only for myself but also about the witnesses.
So we're talking and I'm telling him my experience and the doctrines that I disagreed with as well as the scandals that made me disgusted with the organization. after about half an hour of discussing this, we start talking about the doctrine changes that we've had over the years. I tell him that with al the changes that we've had and that our teachings are never set in stone, how do we know that what we currently believe is actually truth and not another doctrine that will be replaced by new light? I also add that what we believe today vastly differs from what Russell believed.
his response to this was "those are small details, the core of our beliefs hasn't changed." That's when I had a eureka moment. I asked him to imagine a car engine. An engine is made up of many parts, the longer you have the car, the more parts you have to replace. As you're replacing small parts you're slowly taking away the old engine and replacing it with a new one. Soon, there would likely be barely anything left of the old which hadn't been replaced by the new. It's the same with our teachings... When do the small changes overtake the old beliefs and create a new "core." The organization introduces small changes, but those changes eventually pile up and before you know it, you're believing something completely different from what you once were. Unfortunately, my friend didn't have the level head I thought he had and didn't seem to understand my example.
One last thing I finally realized is that the majority of witnesses DO NOT want to wake up. I no longer feel like the brainwashing is all that's keeping them in. I think that deep down, they understand what were telling them and they know that what we're saying is truth, but they don't want to face that reality. For them, living in their world, they are doing something that they believe has purpose. Taking that away from them is devastating and the majority is not mentally capable of allowing their mind to accept the facts that we provide them with.
Those are my thoughts for the day. I would love to hear your ideas and opinions regarding what I wrote!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Father's Day!
Peace,
Garrett
