There isn't much I can say that others haven't. However, I will say, hang on. From this point forward, it's only going to get better. I promise :) There will be days when you will feel down and out, depressed, there will be rough times, but never forget that you are free. You can now be EXACTLY who YOU want to be. Life will slowly start to come together and you can stand up, proud of who you are.

Wow. I can't believe I've ever denied Jehovah's power, this is definitely his work. There is no way that the reason that this dog went to the meetings even after his companion died was because, and I quote "The dog got into the routine of bringing our brother every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday to the Kingdom Hall."
first time, been lurking for years, but i asked my husband who has been studying for 20 plus years if he has ever questioned those that were "teaching" him.
blew my mind.
i ask him all the questions that you have asked yourself, but he will not ask them.
Your reaction to his response was perfectly appropriate. I showed the girl I loved proof that the religion made false end of the world predictions. Something that every witness would mock "Babylon the great" for doing claiming that it was proof that they were false, yet when they, the witnesses do it, it's merely a mistake. She said it was just a mistake on their part (imperfect men excuse)... I was speechless. Someone I thought was very rational and logical had just said the most illogical thing I had ever heard.
The witnesses are a cult, it's simple as that. The people who follow the organization have been brainwashed to never question the organization. If they do, they have the fear of being removed from the religion that they deem to be true. Being removed, in turn, sentences you to death when Armageddon comes. Do you see the circle of fear-mongering that they have created? This is why most won't question, even though their inner logic tells them otherwise.
Ultimately you have 3 options. 1/ FIGHT, do tons of research on the organization and try to wake your husband up. 2/ LEAVE and move on with your life. And lastly, 3/ ACCEPT your husband's and his family's beliefs at the cost of your mental health.

while in service on saturday, i was sitting with an elder that i have known for years having a coffee break.
we were discussing the up-coming convention and what we had to do etc.
then, (there was a tv up on the wall in the coffee place where we were) on the screen burst the news of the nepal earthquake.

a family put this skit on for going away party for our missionary family.
[ i can just imagine what the villagers are going to say about the crazy missionary gringo and his cart.
so i dropped this comment to someone from "my" congregation...... "i just don't like being lied to".... this was in response to their attempt to become my 'bff' (i'm sarcastically using the expression 'best friends forever' here).
i ran into them in the street.
they started chatting all about the cong gossip, teachings, upcoming witness events etc.... i was just quiet and not really contributing to the conversation.. when she asked "so what's new with you?

i have often wondered if there is more harm done to people who are stifled or smothered from expressing their natural conduct, feelings or actions because of it being condemned by religious ideals?.
so if a person keeps suppressing their real personality and tries to mould themselves to the "perfect" or "ideal" version as expected from those controlling them, could they eventually "bust" so to speak?.
for instance, witnesses condemn many forms of entertainment.
Uh... I don't mean to be blunt, but the answer is an obvious yes...
Being told to be someone you aren't will end up with you failing to meet expectations, which in turn will lead to constant guilt and feelings of worthlessness.
Constant feelings of guilt and not feeling worthwhile can cause depression which can then escalate to self abuse, suicidal thoughts and mental illness that can be extremely hard to recover from. One day, they will most certainly have a mental blow out.
While trying to correct certain tendencies is fine, suppressing an entire persona will, most usually, only have negative effects on the person.
