can someone give me a sensible explaination as to why the jw's have banned beards?
i was df'd in '90 just as this was becoming a big deal and at the time i thought it was completely rediculous what with jesus probably having a beard.
it was one of the many things that led me to seeing that the gb make arbitrary rules and that the organisation has more to do with control than religion.
I've heard so many local need parts about the evils of beards.
The reason , they say, is because of the way they are perceived in the community.
Which community? Not the "wordly" community. A well trimmed beard is very acceptable and attractive.
It's only in the Jw community that beards are looked down upon. This just one of their many rules that go "behond what is written".
Funny, moustaches are OK for them. They have never said anything about men with moustaches.

up until a few years ago......every dec. km had a part encouraging everyone to go in the ministry on the holidays.......christmas day, etc.. no one ever got too excited about it in our cong.
.........it was pretty much a joke to everyone even when commenting on it during the meeting part.. that no longer seems to be the case..........haven't seen any parts like this for a few years now......i guess they've given up completely.. the meeting part usually included some "fine experiences"......but i have heard exactly the opposite from some who actually tried it one time.. have any of you ever went in service on christmas day?
When I was a kid my parents dragged me out in service every holiday. It was a big deal around these parts.
A lot of magazines were left.
But I have noticed too that in recent years the emphasis has just not been there.
The cong always arranges times for holiday witnessing but few support these.
You might get the poor pioneers going because they have to get their time in.

this is our first christmas as a family after leaving the cult that defiles gods name.
its been a good year, not only have we left the cult but so have most of our family.
its wonderful to finally be free of the hateful/doublefaced society and to finally see how others worship the almighty god.

Attacking the Person This type of fallacy attempts to disprove or discredit a perfectly valid argument or statement by making an irrelevant attack on the person presenting it.
the society discredits others all the time. Just last week at the circuit assembly the d.o. went on and on about the media and how they lie and can't be trusted and how shows like Dateline are similar to tabloids.

i've already exited the jws in mind and heart, and have read many comments from everyone about the book, so didn't really see the need to buy it for myself.
however, after reading something here on the forum, i decided to order it (and the tao of pooh and siddhartha.
) a super-dub sits two desks away from (she and her husband knew ray and his wife, had tea with them in their room when he was on the gb, etc.
You will cry and then you will feel very very liberated.
My hubby introduced CoC and In Search of Christian Freedom in January of 2002. That year the yearly text hung at the hall was Matt 11:28,29 "Come to me....and I will refresh you. Take my yoke........and you will find refreshment for your souls".
As I read Ray 's books this text would play in my mind because I felt as if a great big load had been lifted off me.

last evening i recieved an e-mail from my aunt who is not a jw, and she told me that my mom was taken to the hospital with a serious bowel obstruction.
my aunt knowing our family sitution felt it would be a good time to see what your mom would do.
so i called my sister who lives not to far from me.
So many families torn apart because of their stupid laws. I hope their end comes soon.
When it comes to your mom, well she is just doing what she is told. Don't hold it against her.

i know that everyone who is a member of this site has heard the same sob story a million times but, this hopefully can help my healling process.
i have like most everyone else in this site have lost all that i had for friends and family.
i never had realized how tough it was for anyone to have this happen.
