Missionaries in Tiawan asked to give salaries back to bethel...one resigned!!
by Witness 007 ina friend from australia's first "ministerial training school" was excited to go to asia as a missionary....only to return in disgrace!!!
the government lets them stay if they become "english teachers" and except a part-time job for a salary {which is generous}.
bethel told him that the money he earns on the side while a missionary belongs to them!!

Update on Mrs Obvious and myself
by Captain Obvious inwell it's been about 8 months since my final wake up.
as some may remember for my intro thread, i panicked and was way too aggressive at first with telling my wife all about this scam we're a part of.
she freaked, thinking satan had me for sure.

From my own personal experience, I'd say: continue doing what you are doing. I know that it hard fo you, but please don't flood her with too much. Let her put two and two together, she will get it in time.
I believe once she realized that the governing body is not guided by holy spirit and that these men are not God's spokesman, then the house of cards will fall for her.
When I was at your wife's stage, I would complain about things in the congregation and blaming the local brothers . My husband would say : do you think its a local problem or systemic? Do you think the local brothers are to blame or are they acting on suggestions from the governing body.? This type of reasoning helped me to see the bigger picture. Once I realized who the Wizard behind the curtain was--everything fell in place.

Health - has anyone else suffered long lasting health effects from years with the Borg?
by Chariklo indoes anyone else feel or know that jehovah's witnesses damaged their health?.
i know many have emerged with depression, and i'm very relieved that i am not one of them.. but, being the age i am, (a large tribe of grandchildren) i was nonetheless pressured to go out door to door in steep countryside often in bad weather, and because i was doing my best to keep up that ended in an injury which has proved to be long lasting.. and that's not counting the stress-induced consequences...i won't cite them all here, but physical.
a few days in hospital and a summer spent on compulsory almost complete rest can all be laid at the watchtower's door.the trauma of actually extricating oneself from the borg is not stopped when one has finally written that letter that disassociates oneself from them.

How did you fare in High School as a JW?
by PaintedToeNail infor me it was rather painful.
it was like pressing your nose against the candy store window, knowing that you can look, but you cannot partake.

Hi missed out so much in High School. Dresses to the knees and for some odd reason the local rule was that young sisters shouldn't wear slacks with zippers in the front. So I coun't even wear jeans. No dances, no football games.......In grade I had the chance to enter a public speaking competion--but of course I had to back off because it was being held in a church basement.
But I was a good little dubby. On my first day of high school I wore a a watchtower and awake pin. (anybody remember those?). My mom explained that I should show who I was right away.

Well said! From personal experience- I have 3 friends that have discovered the wizard behind the curtain. They are still in- with a little less cognitive dissonance

Are disfellowshipings proportionately increasing or decreasing?
by yadda yadda 2 ini have been re-reading chapter 10 of ray franz's brilliant book "in search of christian freedom" (must reading for every borean-like jw and former jw), and i note that on page 315 it says that in 1995 there were 36,638 disfellowshipped, and 37,426 deepfried in 1996.. are there any statistics that show whether the number of expelled persons is increasing or decreasing proportionate to the number of publishers each year since then?

the jehovah's witness movement has been likened to a revolving door. In and out. As a kid I remember hearing that approx 40,000 per year were getting disfellowshipped.
