Are there any doctrines which all Christian religions follow.
by jwfacts ini cannot think of a single doctrine that is so clearly laid out in the bible that every christian sect teaches the same point.
are there any doctrine where there is total consensus amongst all christian religions, including jehovah's witnesses?.

I would say that most religions would subscribe to the doing of good and "love your neighbor as yourself".

I saw this a while back. It's an excellent video. I felt as if it captured my personal life as a child of this religion. I was born in 1959. Sometimes I cry for the younger me, indoctrinated to such level
I remember well, the fear I felt going through the paradise book and looking at the pictures of Armageddon.
By the time I was in grade 5, I was discouraged from doing well in school. A sister gave me the advice to only get by at school and not to worry about getting good grades, after all, the end was only a few years away.
I will be saluting 60 years soon....What a waste of a young life.

freeminds was instrumental in waking me up along with ray franz's books.
if net soup and armageddon okies mean nothing to you you're probably under 30.. whatever caused randy to post what he did recently is something i can only guess at but it won't be what i remember him for.. randy, i wish you well and thank you for all you've done over the years .

Over thirty here and remember the impact that Randy's Freeminds websibe and "net soup" had on me. I have the utmost respect for Randy and all he has done for the ex jw community. That respect has not waned and wish Randy all the best.

For some reason that lawyer reminded me of the infamous "dr. applegate" from the ARC.

"Historical" Announcement This Week?
by headisspinning inmy daughter asked if anyone has heard anything about a 'big announcement' being made sometime this week in congregations in canada and possibly beyond... in her words "it's like a biggggg long thing, they cut out part of the book study for it and people heard it was a historical thing"... any ideas?
could it be the mexican branch closing or the theme of the convention?
or something else?

the announcement was the international assembly being held in Toronto. A governing body member and a helper will be present. All other regional assembly will be tied to Toronto when one of the "lords" speaks.

Jehovah's Witness / ex-JW Suicide Rate?
by Simon init's no secret that both remaining a jw or leaving the wts can take a toll on mental health.
some will suffer from depression and ultimately some will have thoughts of suicide and a few will succumb to those.. but i don't recall ever seeing any hard stats or studies on it though.
i'm sure we all know of some people who have committed suicide but i don't know if, because you may have loose association with a much larger pool of people through the religion, that this only seems higher or maybe not be actually higher than the general population.. what i mean is, you go to a kh here there maybe 100-150 people, you attend circuit and district conventions with many tens of thousands - if any one person commits suicide then you likely hear about it and it becomes part of the anecdotal 'evidence' that is then put forward as a fact that there is a higher rate ... but is there?.

I havent' heard of any documented stats on jw and suicide. But I bet if we gathered stats of individuals we know that committed suicide as a direct result of being associated with jehovah's witnesses, we might find that the numbers are pretty high.
For starters , I personally know of 1 in my circle that committed suicide as a direct result and circumstance of shunning.
