Help me Help a JW Friend

i am not jw nor have i ever been.

i do not know the ends and outs of the jw religion.

i have an employee who is jw.

I am not JW nor have I ever been. I do not know the ends and outs of the JW religion. I need all of your help.

I have an employee who is JW. He is a good man that I appreciate and respect a lot. He recently got divorced from his JW wife right after they had thier first baby and he told me today that he has not been going to the Kingdom Hall for a while. I am concerned about him but not sure how to approach him. He has been gaining alot of weight and seems unusualy withdrawn. I am sure he is going through a confussing time in his life.

What does JW say about divorce? What does JW say about not attending services? What is the teaching for divorced parents as it relates to a fathers responsibility to his child?

I feel if I know more about JW than I can be of more support to him. If he is considering leaving the JW religion I would like to provide him the support he would need to break away. I want to tell him about this web site but I am affraid of how he will take it. I have always been an understanding and supportive manager to all my employees. I respect them and try to create a positive work environment, one that will allow my employees to have a good quality of life. If I approach this individual the wrong way I feel he may question my integrity and honesty. We have had conversations about JW and as I do with all my employees I listen and provide them the opportunity to share with me. Since I have been open to his conversaations on JW he may loose some respect for me if I tell him about this site.

That being said if he wants to break away from JW I think this is an excellent site for support.

Any info or advice you can give me would be very helpful. I want this person to know that I will Love and support him and that his happiness and peace is an important part of his job.

well i got a letter from my brother today, user name is ambush.

from prison.

i won't go into detail except to relay the sadness, regret, and embarassment he feels, he got arrested again on an old charge that an asshole da decided to pursue.

Sorry to hear about your brother. From my own personal experiences I believe that parents can have a huge impact on thier childrens ability to make good safe decisions about their life and freinds. My wife has worked in the mental health field for nearly 15 years and she always says that most of the issues people face can be tracked back to childhood and the environment in which they were raised. My wife also says that the only way someone like your brother can break the cycle of poor decisions and mistakes is for them to take ownership of their problems, stop blamming others and learn from thier past. I would suggest that your brother take the next nine months to come to grips with his childhood and how it impacts him as an adult. He should accept responsibility for his situation and use the lessons he has learned to lay out a life strategy and plan. He should write down where he wants to be in life and stayed honest to himself and his goals. He should not let any event in his past define who he is. He is not a criminal, a drug pusher, a druggy, or any other negative label that many other will want to place on him. What he is is a GOD made in the same likeness and with the same power. He has within him the power to become anything he wants to be despite his past. If he does not take ownership of his destiny and understand his GOD given strenths, talents and abilites he will never become the man he is meant to be. If he does not understand his childhood, his mistakes, and the situation he finds himself in then all of his past will of all been in vain. It is when we fail that we learn the most about our abilities and strength but only if we are brave enough to look deep within our self and accept what we really see. I believe in your brother and you and I know you both are strong beatiful men meant to be GODS. The question is does your brother believe as I do. I'll be praying for you both.

I did it I finished the marathon in 3 hours, 49 minutes and 35 secounds. (3:49:35)

I fished my first ever marathon with an average 8 minute 46 secound pace and was in the top 19% of all 5,735 runners. It is incredible and humbling to me to say that I went from 280 pounds and out of shape to losing 80 pounds and completing a full 26.2 mile marathon in 1 year.

i beilive the only true way to gain a heathy body is the old fashion method of eating less and moving more.

if everyone would eat a well balanced diet and exercise regularly then there would not be such a huge market for diet ripe off programs.

I did it!

I completed my first Marathon today. In 1 year I went from 280 pounds and out of shape to losing 80 pounds and completing a full 26.2 mile marathon. My average pace per mile was 8:46 and I finished in the top 19% out of all 5,735 runners.

Would you mary someone from a different race?

That is an interesting question.

I would like to ask- Would you mary someone from the same race?

The difference between us all is where we find the true beauty and strength of our world.

People who are comfortable with themselves can easily see the beauty in difference as well as the beauty in the same. Anyone that would have a problem with someone that is different from them truley only has a problem with themselves.

Anyone that can not see, appreciate, love, respect, accept and celebrate difference is most likely incapable of loving.

So why would anyone even think to ask the question "Would you mary someone from a different race?"

I would suggest that you begin by knowing yourself and staying within your own abilities. Do not try to do to much. You should never compare your efforts to anyone else. You should compare your efforts to your own personal goals.

I would start by setting realistic goals that you know you can achieve. Choose goals that are somewhat challenging but mainly achievable and fun. You should have fun with your excercising. If you enjoy running/walking then you will want to do more of it. The key at the begining is stay consistant with your excercising and do not push yourself too hard. Set a schedule and try to develop a routine. You want to practice your set routine for at least 30 days. Once you follow the same routine (ie run/walk 3 days a week, Monday-Wensday-Saturday) for 30 days it will become a habit. Once it becomes a habit you can begin to challenge yourself to do more.

As you learn to have fun excercising and begin to routinly raise your expectations as you get better at it, you will be on track to set reasonable acheivable goals like running a marathon. I would not set out to run a marathon until I know my behavior and enjoyment could support the effort. If you begin to run at a pace and a distant that is fun for you and really get into running I would suggest signing up with a marathon training group. Marathon groups have people with all types of running ablities, they are not for profesional or advance runners. Just about every major city has several marathon training gruops that anyone can join. What is good about joining a group is that you will meet other people that share the same abilities as you and have the same goal. When I decieded to run the marathon I Joined a group here in my hometown of Houston. The group I joined is called USA FIT. You can find them on the internet. There are other groups besides USA FIT that can help you prepare for a marathon.

Excercise can be alot of fun it done for the right reasons and if you stay within your abilities. Excecise can be tuff and short lived if you try to do too much to fast. Life is long, you have plenty of time to get your excecise habits in order. You want to chage your behavior to last the rest of your life, not just learn to run a marathon and be done with it.

I beilive in you and know you can achieve anything you set your mind and hart to. Take your time, have fun and good luck.

I will carry all of you with me this weekend while I run the marathon. When I crosss the finish line all of you will cross with me.

I hope I serve as an example that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to and are willing to modify your behavior. Your success lies where your hart is. I believe in everyone of you and know you all will accomplish your personal goals.

How I lost my 80 pounds....

I began by knowing myself and really knowing my strengths and weakneses. I did not set out to "Lose weight" at all. I set out to improve my life style so that I could live a healthy one. I wanted to learn new behaviors so I could become healthier.

I started in Feburary of 2002 at that time I weighed 280 pounds and had a 42 inch waist. I focused on reducing my fat intake. I did not worry about Carbs and I did not count calories. I change what I ate and how I ate it. I began to eat 5 to 6 times a day. I taught myself to graze and not to eat meals. I stop eating after 6:00 PM. Everything I eat is low in fat. My daily goal was not to eat more than 10 grams of fat a day. By April (after 3 months) I had totally changed my eating habits and lost 30 pounds. I dropped to 250 pounds without excercising at all. The 30 pounds I lost came off because the change in my eating habits and incorporating low fat foods.

In April I began to excercise. I enjoyed running in the past so I took up running again. When I started running I was not very good at it and could not run very far. I kept with it though and stayed true to myself. By July I had lost over 50 pounds and my running had gottten to a point where I was really enjoying it. In July I joined a marathon training club and begain training for a marathon. To date I lost over 80 pounds and 10 inches on my waist. Next Sunday January 19th 2003 I will be participating in a marathon in which I will complete in less than 4 hours. I am a totally diferent person than who I was a year ago.

I said you have to know yourself. Along the way I did make it a point to have cheat days where I could eat whatever I wanted and not worry about the fat grams. The once a week cheat day allowed me to enjoy the foods I knew I could not live without thusly taking away any temptations for my weaknesses.

The key to anything we set out to accomplish is are own behavior. By modifying my eating and excersise behaviors I have become a healthy 36 year old. My conitued behavior will keep me healthy. No product, diet, program, pill or other crazy weight loss scheme can modify your behavior. Only you can do that. To be successful in weight managment you must begin and end with your behavior. Once your behavior is is place counting calories, carbs, or fat grams is easy. Do not pay anyone to help you lose weight. Once you really want to change you will. Your behavoir always follows your heart.
