As the mother of a little boy, I find it scary that the "heroes" in the media all seem to be excessively violent. I love when my son imitates his father, it shows me that he is choosing a good role model. I believe in same sex only schools, and I also believe in uniforms for school. I think both server to get the point across that a school is a place for education, and hopefully, this weeds out some of the petty greivances that come about due to differences in socio-economic circumstances. I want my son to be a MAN - strong, chivalrous, intelligent, independent, etc. and it's me and my husband's #1 job to see that he grows into that.

Facial Hair

why aren't jw's supposed to have facial hair unless it is a nicely trimmed mustache?

if jw's are supposed to follow the way of jesus why can't they have facial hair.

i know there is no biblical protocall denying people the option to grow beards.

This is a good example of the bullying of the WTS. Although there is obviously no biblical restriction against wearing a beard, thick mustache, etc. brothers could have their priviledges removed for wearing one. Stupid, stupid, stupid. And, of course, the rest of the congregation would look upon that brother as "weak".

The Matrix is Loaded, but with What?

i rewatched the original just for the heck of it.

Wow, that's a lot to take in SS. I have seen the Matrix Reloaded, and I hope you post your thoughts after you do. It will give you a lot more food for thought.

It's interesting what you say about the good guys being black, and all the bad guys being white when you consider that the role of Neo was originally offered to Will Smith (who, unfortunately for him, had already agreed to film Wild Wild West, and so wasn't available).

I will read your other posts more thoroughly, and come back with some thoughts of my own Monday. I seldom have time to log on on the weekend.

Should parents be held responsible in hazing?

i imagine most of you have heard or seen the footage of the hazing in which girls were beaten at a high school.. the ones guilty of this crime have been formally charged as adults.

after reading reports and viewing the video, i believe the authorities rightfully charged them.

i don't think there has been much debate on whether or not those kids are guilty.. the question i have heard out there is whether or not the authorities should charge the parents because their kids were involved?.

One of the things that bothers me about some of the stories I am reading is that a number of the kids are appealing their suspension or expulsion. Nowhere does it say they are denying their actions, just objecting to the punishment. And that, in my humble opinion, is a problem on the part of the parents. If I did something like that, and got caught, my mom would still love me, and still want the best for me, but she would let me take the punishment I had coming. That's why I (and my siblings) have always shown respect for the law, and never gotten into trouble. If these kids aren't severly punished now for their behaviour, heaven help the world they are being let loose on. I think that's where the parent's responsibility comes in, helping their "children" understand that there are consequences for their actions, and that those consequences can be severe.

given that your wts has frequently warned its members to stay away from the internet, and that bad association spoils useful habits, why is it that you persist in posting on this site, which is quite obviously populated by those that are disfelloshipped, disassociated, or, at the very least, spiritually weak?

if you lived near one of the more vocal posters would you willingly be seen by your body of elders having a conversation with them?

or, is it the ease of anonymity that allows you to be such a hypocrite and flaunt the rules of the organisation you pathetically claim to follow?

Hi, all,

ScoobySnax, I don't really understand your point. I don't expect assimilation, but I do expect someone who posts messages about how wonderful their religion is, and how the non-believers are all wrong to at the very least abide by the rules of their vaunted religion. Maybe I did come across stronger than I meant to, but yes, I was and remain really irritated at this kind of behaviour. If you are going to purposely put yourself in a certain group of people, and then demean those same people, you should be prepared to defend (verbally or by written word) your actions. And when you act in a condenscending manner as SOJ so often does, then it makes it even more irritating that he/she is such a hypocrite. That's like a teetotaler following a group of people to a bar, and sitting with them while they drink, all the time telling them how wrong they are. Be true to yourself, or at least to the beliefs you claim to hold so dear.

I should probably not have bothered, so many others have asked SOJ direct questions, and not received an answer, I am likely spinning my wheels. I am not holding my breath for a response, just giving SOJ an opportunity to shed "new light" on his/her behaviour.

Many of us have noticed that you like to "hit and run", meaning you refuse to answer direct questions put to you, but you post your drivel and expect us all to let it go without a challenge. Wrong.

You are a great example of the lying, cowardly, two faced hypocrites that run the WTS, and just reassure many of the posters on this board that we were and are right to stay away from your "spiritual family".

Why do elders step down when their children are disfellowshipped?

hi everyone, a question that has been on my mind for a while.. if jehovah appoints the elders, why is it that when one of their kids is disfellowshipped some of them step down as an elder?.

does jehovah dis-appoint them?

is this a scriptual thing?

Good point! I don't necessarily agree that someone should have to step down if their children are DF', because the children are individuals, and cannot be kept under lock and key. Of course, if the parent was just out and out neglectful or something, of course. But, in the cases I saw when I was in the Borg, it was mostly guilt on the part of the elder, maybe if he hadn't spent so much time "sheperding" outside of his own household, he would have seen the coming issues with his child.

It's easy to say I would change things, and I think in some ways life would be better if I had made different choices (i.e., gone to college), but the truth is any different path in my life, and I would not have my son. He is worth all the crap I have ever gone through.

your catch phrase

so i'm sitting here at work and it just dawned on me that i use the same phrase over and over subconsciously.

in my job i have lots of people that thank me on the phone and for some reason instead of saying "your welcome" (which i do use occasionally) i say "not a problem" or "no problem".. what is your little catch phrase that you subconsciously use?.

One of my Canadian friends pointed out to me that Americans frequently don't say "you're welcome" but say, no problem, ok, sure, etc. It's a running joke between me and my husband now.

I have two catch phrases, the first is if someone has made me angry. I start off by saying "please help me understand why.....". I didn't realize it until I said it to someone in my office and they went uh oh.

Also, right before I get really firm with someone I say, "you know what?"

I call them my verbal ticks.
