did anyone else have a hard time fitting in with non-witnesses when you left the witnesses?
i never had a hard time fitting in with witnesses since i grew up as one, i was always popular in witness circles and could usually strike up an easy conversation with someone as long as i knew they were a witness.
but i just can't find any common points of interest with anyone anymore since i've been disfellowshipped twice and then finally faded away a year and a half ago.

what songs or groups were you forbidden to listen to as a jw?
were any specifically mentioned from the platform or were you counseled not to listen to a certain song?
for me it was the entire def leopard hysteria album - bad heavy metal told it was demonic, i listened to it in secret, silk's "freak me" - a virgin listening to a song about hot sex?
Of course, everything by Prince was bad "Soft and Wet" being his first single.
Also, "Deja Vu" by Teena Marie, which was about reincarnation (it really is, but so what?)
George Clinton, Parliament, Bootsy Collins, because they all advocated smoking pot.
The good news is, I didn't care what anyone thought, and listened to this music to my heart's content.

remember the english girl babysitter who was supposed to have murdered that little baby?
the court case was on live tv everyday (like ojsimpson).
i watched both and was convinced of ojs guilt but was also convinced of lwoodwoods innocence.
I'm a little hesitant to comment since I didn't follow the case closely, but from the bit I heard, I totally believed she was guilty. Just the fact that she admitted shaking the baby, and the motion she made, just seemed to me like she did it. The sad thing is, many people shake babies, unaware of the harm that can be done with even minimal shaking. I didn't think she was a monster who maliciously and deliberately harmed the child, just someone who let anger get the best of them.
The interesting thing about the OJ case is, I don't think he did it. I fully believe he knows more than he has ever said, but after all the evidence, police misconduct, and reading Christopher Darden's book, I don't think he committed the murders. I believe he was a wife beater, and an all around cad of a guy, but the facts didn't add up in my opinion. I have talked to a number of legal and law enforcement personnel (just out of curiosity) and I was surprised that many of them agreed with me. Not all, but more than half. Of course, maybe somewhere else all the law enforcement personnel believe he did it, I just didn't talk to them.

the dictionary defines a friend as a person whom one knows, likes, and trusts.
this definition seems fair enough, but at what point do you really know someone, and how much trust is needed?
i think everyones ideas of what a friend should be like are broad.
Actually, Frenchbabyface, I DID have it happen, twice, but in opposite ways.
I broke up with my fiance. I didn't have a reason I could put into words, I just knew something wasn't right. A few months after the breakup, one of my so called best friends said my ex had been cheating on me. He knew about the cheating, but didn't tell me because he didn't want me to get angry. This is a person I had been tight with since freakin' 6th grade for God's sake!! I told him I would never forgive him for not telling me, and for having so little faith in our friendship.
A few years ago, I saw one of my girlfriend's man out at a club. He was with another woman. He tried to play it off, but I'm not stupid, and I know the difference between platonic friendship (which I have always had) and a date. I told my girlfriend the very next day. She wasn't angry in the least, she was glad I told her. She elected not to break up with him immediately (they were getting ready to go on a cruise, and she didn't want to ruin the trip), but they broke up soon after returning.
Like I said, if you are my friend you will know I am not jealous, I am not interfering, I am simply providing you with information I believe you should have. I would never tell my friend to leave a relationship, that's not my place. As a matter of fact, when I was dating my husband and we were having problems, one of my girlfriends told me to leave him. I elected not to, but she remains my friend to this day. Being able to speak openly and honestly is a requirement for me, and people whose friendships require lying and subterfuge aren't worth my time.

this topic is largely in response to the topic:.
in one post, i said:one possible reason that both native americans and blacks (then slaves) were treated so badly for so long is that both largely sided with the british in the war of independence.
i guess countries have some kind of giant collective consciousness that takes a while to change.. .
SS,
You said "One law, for instance, required a southern white woman to stand aside for a black man, or he could have his way w her.
In reaction to this repression, the kkk was born. "
I find this totally preposterous. Please cite a legitimate historical reference (a legal writ, link to a legal website, or something) that proves this. And it is ridiculous to say that the KKK was born in reaction to oppression, when the founders and members of the KKK just a few years back were themselves the oppressors (and slaveowners).

no, actually, i was corrected by the friendly police officers who responded to my 911 call.
i was burggled.

My sister's house was recently broken into. They got an alarm installed the same week also. The saddest thing was, they stole sentimental jewelry belonging to a close relative who is deceased. Everything else material will be replaced.
My sister was afraid to be alone in the house until they got their alarm and motion detector installed. She is better now.
I hope you can recover quickly, Wasa, and move on. I hope they catch the losers that did this!

this definition seems fair enough, but at what point do you really know someone, and how much trust is needed?
i think everyones ideas of what a friend should be like are broad.
Being the hermit that I am, I actually can't deal with people who want to spend a lot of time with me. Even before I got married and had my son, if someone wanted to talk to me more than once a week, I had a problem with that. I don't know if I didn't get enough alone time growing up or what, but my private time is precious to me. Now that I have a full time job, young child, and husband, I get hardly any alone time, and it sometimes makes me crazy. However, the few true friends that I have know without any doubt that I am always there for them. I won't call to chat more than once or twice a month, but I will break my neck to help you if I can. As a matter of fact, one of my girlfriends gave me a Swahili name which means she who helps.
My definition of friendship is someone who accepts me, and also loves me enough to tell me the truth. If I am screwing up, a real friend will sit me down and smack me upside the head. Not that they can't use tact, but they better say something. If you are too concerned with happy happy joy joy fun fun to be real, then you can be an acquaintance forever, but that's it. I once heard a radio call in program do a poll on whether you would tell a friend if you saw their significant other on a date with someone else. I was shocked that pretty much everyone said they would "mind their own business" and not tell their so called friend. Well, I would call my friend on the spot, and let them know what was going on,and I expect the same loyalty in return.
I don't know if I can consider on line people real friends. There are a few that I definitely care about, including you SP, but I haven't formed a relationship outside of the board, so it's more along the lines of a good acquaintance.

wat do you think is a 'good' age to die?
if i'm physically active and strong, i say 74.
I think age is the wrong determining factor. If later today I got into a horrible accident, and was going to live but either in agonizing pain or as a complete vegetable, then 39 (my current age) would be a good age to die.
My grandmother is 93. She is in relatively good health, has all her mental faculties, lives indepently in a retirement village, and has a good life. If I can be like that, I would live to 100.
It's all about quality of life.

this is part of a fundamentalist "war" on women's rights, in my opinion.
i'm trying to get the word out to as many people as i can.
this just came across my screen.
So, all you people who defend Bush, and insist that he's not a right wing nutcase, stop listening to what he's yammering about, and look at his actions.
Scary.
