Alone at new years eve again
by Pleasuredome innew years eve 1996 was the last time i enjoyed a new years eve with a girlfriend.
even though i wasnt into celebtrating it in a major way because of the jw influence on my life, it was a really great time to be with someone i cared about.
1997 onwards i became involved with the jws and of course i couldnt become involved with a worldly girl, so i became celebate.

Mean or just obedient
by Debz inwas thinking bout xmas and all just recently when i wondered if anyone has had my experience of `meanness`..we all know that xmas, birthdays and easter are outta bounds for jw`s and when my parents started to study (when i was 8) we were told that although xmas`s etc would`nt be the same it would be made up for during the year - guess what it never was!.
now being english folks and all i know they can be inclined to be a bit sparing on the pennies but hell are they mean....no way known do they go outta their way to give anyone a gift for anything!
i don`t think this is a good way to live for anyone - it teaches people to be mean hearted and is not a sign of love...i think!

No probs Refiner.....
I can relate to the whole family thing and the lack of ties - no sisters & parents topped with NO extended family except those still back in UK (save for my dear grandmother - now deceased) for 20years has taken its toll......
However we do TRY..one sister (now DF`ed)and her fella and one of her children will come and over Xmas day...with my kids..mmmm poor family gathering but its the best we have..and for me...a benefit on other years where it was me and my kids....
I agree with the whole decorations thing altho I do make an effort and try to enjoy it as much as I can even with the whispers and undertones remaining that tell me its all commercial profitability...... -

You will never grow old
by Elsewhere ini was looking at the quotes web site and came across a jewel: *** awake!
because all the evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years.
of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, jesus foretold: 'this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.

For years (over 20) my mother and father atried to `convert` my maternal grandmother - and the arguement she always would use was
I don`t want to live forever..................How dull!....
it worked ....she died 8 yrs ago...with resolve she would never be a JW...........a great woman!

Thanks Utopian for your comments .....I now find I LOVE spending and bestowing gifts on my children / grandchildren AND my view of money is quite different to my folks...in that I believe should be enjoyed while we`re here ........not hoarded (and in my view isn`t that a `materialistic` attitude to hoard possessions / money etc....) In my view I want to enjoy life and share in that to my children....

Not that I think you should `buy` people either BUT...what message does it give people especially children.....As a young child I did have Xmas etc (before I was 8 at least)...Boy was it hard taking that all away like that!
And what about the comment it is better to give than to recieve!
Anyone else share this experience?

nightmares and anxiety
by nelly1 in.
does anyone here have nightmares about the witnesses after leaving, i seem to be having alot lately, and i cant stand banging into them they terrify me.
like if i think i see a person who looks like someone in my cong, and its not just looks like them i have a panic attack.......... im wondering because that is not normal for me...
-
Debz
yes,,,,i have anxiety and panic attacks.....its a hard thing to bear but mostly i suffer them when in a crowd of ppl ..I think its related to a fear of `worldly people/ society` for me..and in a way also some performance anxiety as either I`m not sure how to be a `normal` person in society or..I think I may be wrong for having an opinion of my own...I found that when I went back to University..the fact of making comments was hard...I could relate that to `answering` correctly at meetings!!! ..I am managing it all a bit better but I have been DF`ed for over 20yrs..!!!!! Good Luck

What exactly does that story have to do with jingle Bells Refiner ..altho while your on the subject of phone calls...my son did an enormous $3000 worth of damage on mine..not sex chat lines but calling his girlfriend (after midnight and WITHOUT my knowledge) ..under the impression that we had `FREECHAT` .......But anyways...spoke to Telstra and they actually investigated it....and da da .............waivered the bill..do you believe that!!! Now I think thats a good call for a change from a money making corporate body!....Wont happen again..
