former2free, Welcome! Although we'd love to hear more of your story, be very careful about putting on here any information that can identify you. You don't want to drive your wife and children in the opposite direction or raise suspicions about yourself in the congregation by accidentally "outing" yourself before you're ready.

Consequences for having a non religious wedding ceraminy?
by Addison0998 inhey i was wondering if maybe someone who is an ex elder or who knows a lot about these things could help me.
my dad is an elder but i need to be cautious with questions i ask.
now that i’ve been woken up from my brainwashed love of this corrupt corporation and from my belief in the bible, and my fiancé is starting to wake up as well, i really don’t want to have the sexist, overused, impersonal talk outline used for my wedding ceremony by some elder who is trying to show off his talk giving skills.

They have banished the liquor, dancing, and music at the reception
Is that a general rule or just in certain areas?

Fay Dehr, Cool video! Could you please provide the complete quotes about "six years left" and "90 months"? Also, is "Stay alive till '75" from an actual recording of a convention? Thanks!

You marry him and raise your children in a cult, and have to shun them if they leave it.
Or your children would have to shun YOU if you left the Witnesses.

Is it 16?
by Jrjw inhi can anyone tell me if it's true the society says parents must take their child to meetings until they're 16 even if they don't want to?
my ex is being a pain about me not forcing my 12 year old to be a witness.
he doesn't know i'm becoming inactive at moment so i have to be careful how i word things to him.

One thing to consider: If you tell your landlords you're no longer a Witness, do you think they'd be likely to make things difficult for you in some way even if they don't try to break the lease?

The 1981 Yearbook, pp. 31-32, states that Jehovah's Witnesses made "steady progress" in the years from 1974-1980 and it was only the number of Memorial partakers that decreased. Their chart, however, shows that in the years following 1975 there was a decrease in the average number of publishers, pioneers, and hours spent in the ministry. It was only after 2 or 3 years of decrease that the numbers started increasing again.
This claim of steady increase that was belied by the Yearbook's own chart upset me in 1981, and I've remembered it to this day. It seemed as though the Society were trying to get us to not actually see what the evidence showed and instead to take it for granted that it backed up their claims.
I was unable to reproduce the graph here. It can be found at http://www.watchtowerwayback.org/jw-wb/English/Books/Yearbooks/1981%20Yearbook%20(yb81-E).pdf.
Thanks again to OrphanCrow for the link.

"My mother in law puts a napkin on her head when praying at meal times...."
Women should not use a napkin as a head covering when praying. They should have a scarf, hat, etc., available.
