You're right, it could be that since we're taking his stuff off him he probably thinks that we're in some way interested. Obviously, what he doesn't know is that the leaflets and magazines that he gives us get filed straight under "bin" . I often spot him knocking on neighbour's doors, so maybe they too are smiling sweetly at him and then throwing his literature out as soon as he's gone.

by figureheaduk inhi everyone, sorry i've not been here for ages............... anyways, lately our house has been fetting quite a few knocks on the door by a jw who lives on my street.
sometimes he's alone, sometimes he's accompanied, but the odd thing is is that before we could go months without a visit from the wt's foot soldiers, and now lately we've been getting visits once or twice a week.
if we realise it's them we don't answer the door, but every now and then we get caught off guard and have to explain nicely that we're busy and not really interested.

If we realise it's them we don't answer the door, but every now and then we get caught off guard and have to explain nicely that we're busy and not really interested. Still, they keep giving us little pamphlets or copies of "awake" and "wt" and whatever so I was wondering, what with the seemingly increased frequency of visits have the JW's been told to increase their door to door activities and/or literature distribution, or is it a case of this guy taking more of an interest in recruiting the neighbourhood?

Celebs you look like

i find her most unfeminine and unattractive.
but it doesn't piss me off half as much as when i'm told i look like liza minelli.

Many people say I look like Harry Potter (If i've got my round glasses on). Others think I look a bit like Brendan Frasier. I've even been told I look like one of the Baldwin brothers (though I cant remember which one!). I notice the similarities between me and Potter, but me and Frasier/Baldwin - No way!
Personally, I think I look like a bit a cross between Brian the drummer from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and BBC presenter Louis Theroux.

Cross religion mariage
by 2k ini have a friend who recently married a witness.
he isn't a witness, and this is causing some issues with the family.
i'm curious what is cosidered the appropriate way that the families should deal with the issue.

I nearly ended up marrying someone who is basically a JW, even though I've never been one myself. When me and my JW ex girlfriend finally split a couple of months back, she admitted to me that even if we did get married it would never work out between us, and this would have been due to her commitment to the bOrg. However, when she was going for the whole marriage push months before, she used to tell me that there were many in her congregation who's spouses weren't JWs (i.e. trying to make out that marriages between witnesses and non-witnesses work out......). I don't know if it's some kind of strategy that the WT uses to gain more
slavesmembers by saying that JWs and non JWs can be happily married (and therefore having a potential convert ready to join uo), but at least what she said when we split confirmed my suspicions about how things would have gone if we did wed.I don't know if that's what will happen to your friend, I'm only speaking from my own experience here. But, as others have said here he may find that her loyalty will always be toward the bOrg, and not him and their marriage. I hope he is willing to understand that.

Question about Governing Body
by figureheaduk ini remember flicking through my ex girlfriends copy of the "proclaimers" book back last year, and there was a page with the pictures of the gb at the time (roundabout 1992 with henschel, jaracz et al).
apart from noticing that the gb was totally comprised of males (well, with the wt's almost neanderthalitic view of women, you wouldnt expect a female contingent within the gb would you?
), i noticed that they all seemed to be white, and, judging by some of the names, probably american.

Fame Academy - BBC
by nightwarrior inwell this is a programme that we would not normally watch, but.... our eldest son's best friend is on - paris - it is really strange watching him.. how sad are we - we are even watching bbc3 at 7pm, just to catch a glimpse of him, ( i am sure that the novelty will soon wear off)!!!!
oh well.... thought i would post this little piece of useless information.

I also heared that many of this year's Fame Academy "contestants" already have contracts with major labels, with the label bosses using the show as a cheap way of getting publicity (paid for by the license payer, naturally)
