Cathy Infusino, 51, of San Bruno, was arrested on one count of assault with a deadly weapon following the scuffle. On Monday, she pleaded not guilty and returns to court in two weeks for a preliminary hearing. At 2 p.m. Dec. 25, the victim approached Infusino?s apartment unit in the 200 block of East Avenue after mistaking it for a different residence. The woman apologized but Infusino began screaming and tried to drag her into the apartment, prosecutors said. During the struggle, Infusino was armed with a butcher?s knife and held it at the woman?s throat, according to a San Bruno police report. The woman was able to escape but cut her hand, police reported. When San Bruno police responded to the victim?s call for help, Infusino allegedly told them the woman was a burglar with a key to her home. Infusino was arrested. The victim couldn?t be certain the minor cut on her hand happened during the struggle. She did not require medical care. Prosecutors are still waiting to learn if Infusino knew the victim was a Jehovah?s Witness. If so, the attack could be labeled a hate crime. Infusino remains in custody in lieu of $10,000 bail.   what does the elder manual say the procedure is when someone reports child abuse?

  my father in law is telling my wife that is says to go straight to the proper authorities... i have a hard time buying that since thats not what the watchtowers i've seen have said!

  any one have the low down on this?

  Before Forming a Judicial Committee

  A person who becomes a witness to a serious sin should
  encourage the wrongdoer to report the matter to the elders.
  

  He may encourage the wrongdoer to seek help from the
  elders and confess; and if the wrongdoer does not do
  so, the witness will then inform the elders. (w85 11/85 pp. 19-21)

  If there is no response from the accused, two elders
  should attempt to discuss the matter with him. If he
  denies wrongdoing, so that it is only one brother's
  word against another's, leave the matter in Jehovah's
  hands. (1 Tim. 5:19, 24, 25)

  However, having the witness confront the accused alone
  may not be advisable in all cases.
  

  For example:

  When the witness is party to wrongdoing, such as
  in cases of fornication or adultery.

  When the witness is a victim of the wrongdoer as in
  cases of incest or rape.

  When the witness is extremely timid.

  In such cases, or when other extenuating circumstances
  exist, two elders may discuss the matter with the ac-
  cused, or an elder may accompany the witness to dis-
  cuss the matter with the accused.

  Of course, if it is determined that a judicial committee
  should be formed, the witness may need to testify at
  the hearing if the accused denies wrongdoing.

  If there is another witness to the same type of sin on the
  part of the accused, this would be basis for forming a
  judicial committee. (See Unit 5 (b), page 111.)

  After opening with prayer, the chairman states the rea-
  son for the meeting.

  He may offer a Scriptural point at the outset, such as from
  Proverbs 28:13 or James 5:14, 15.

  Elders, by expressing the desire to be helpful, can do
  much to put the accused at ease. (w89 9/15 pp. 19-20)

  The chairman invites the accused to make a personal
  statement.

Michael Davidson and Dustin Morter were arrested today in St. Louis and both will be extradited to Broward County.   20 December, 2004FRANCISTOWN ­ Reggae music lovers around the country are up for an entertaining festive season after the "Francistown new kids on the block", Dread Foundation, dropped their first album recently. The album is titled "Life Promotion" and it was released on December 1.

  The eight track album is mainly addressing the nation on social issues, and when listening to it one may be tempted to think about our own reggae legend Master Dee.

  Dread Foundation is comprised of young and vibrant Mokanoki Malanga (21) from Moroka, Unami Maswabi (23) of Tutume, Tjokula Gerald from Mapoka and the only female Masego Gasemodimo (21) of Shashe.

  The group was formed in Francistown in 2001. Their first album also targets issues that affect the youth like discouraging them from indulging in drug abuse. It also addresses issues like premarital sex and HIV/AIDS. The album further warns people against misinterpreting the culture of reggae itself.

  According to the lead vocalist Unami Maswabi, the album is educational and encourages people to appreciate what reggae music is. He warned them against accepting wrong information about the music, like believing that the music promotes the use of drugs (marijuana). "People think reggae is against the models of our society and they believe that it originated from the Caribbean countries like Jamaica, but they forget that those people originated from Africa" said Unami.

  The title track, "Life Promotion", cautions the youth against indulging in unprotected sex and warns them against the dangers of HIV/AIDS. It calls for maximum participation from the nation as a whole, in fighting the deadly scourge out of our country.

  The third track, "Natty Dread" tries to convince people that Jah Rastafarai is our spiritual ambassador. In the song it is said that Jah is the emperor of life, and the ambassador of righteousness.

  In fact Unami said, "Natty" means Natural, and they wanted to show people that reggae is a natural music. This track also says people need to be disciplined and committed to Jehovah, the almighty.

  It warns against arrogance and political terminologies and calls for Jah to bring justice and peace to Africa. Track Seven is another interesting one.

  It is about God and his supernatural powers.

  The song "Ndzimo" (God) praises the Lord for everything that he has given, be it clothes, shelter and all the powers that He has given to people. It also reminds people not to forget to praise the almighty at all times.

  The last track, "Blood City", is about abstinence. It says that condom preaching is spiritual wickedness. Unami said, "when you teach children about the use of a condom, it is like you are telling them that they have the right to sexual intercourse, and this will not solve the problem of HIV/AIDS at all." On this track, youth are said to be leaders of tomorrow, therefore need to be taught about self respect and good behaviour. The need to be taught the right things and directed towards the right directions.

  The track further discourages people from crimes like robbery and suicide.

  Unami lamented this track was composed in memory of their lost friend and former schoolmate, who committed suicide. This album was recorded at Crystal Sounds Studio in Francistown and it was produced by Pastor Keith Kapembwa.

  This studio is the one that recorded songs like "Mpolelele re babedi" by Anafiki. Life Promotion is good news to reggae fanatics. It is said that Batswana have shown much interest and the album is expected to take the music market by storm. BOPA

  i stumbled accross this ancient booklet "neutrality of jehovah's witnesses" which is a re print of the watchtower november 1st 1939 .

  note the rhetorical question at the top of the page , and the answer given at the foot of page 22 and over to 23 .

  that statement shocked me !

  By spreading what they believe to be Jesus' word, Jehovah's Witnesses have inadvertently tested the limits of the First Amendment.
  
  As a result Jehovah's Witnesses have paved the way for several landmark First Amendment rulings in the United States.
  
  The main point of contention in many of these cases is the Witnesses' door-to-door preaching.
  
  Jehovah's Witnesses go door-to-door because they want to share a message: Under God's will everyone on earth will live in peace, and there will be harmony and peace with mankind and the physical world.
  
  Unlike many religions that limit preaching to church functions and intimate conversations, Jehovah's Witnesses knock on residential doors to find new brothers and sisters.
  
  "The reason we go door-to-door is because Jesus went door-to-door and he told us to do it," said Cathy Lou Pogainis, a church member at the Kingdom Hall in Glenwood.
  
  Contrary to what a grumpy neighbor in pajamas might think, door-to-door work is a very well-thought-out process requiring devout training and an explicit understanding of the Bible and other Jehovah's Witness literature, Pogainis said.
  
  Pioneers - those who go door-to-door - go to theocratic school every Tuesday or Thursday night to study the Bible, the Watchtower, which is an in-depth Bible supplement, and Awake!, a current events issue coupling social and economic problems with scripture, Pogainis said.

  Jehovah's Witnesses are not required to participate in door-to-door work but those who do learn how to talk to people about God's hope, Pogainis said.

  A regular pioneer works around 70 hours a month, said Mindy Schmidt, 18, a pioneer for Glenwood Park.
  
  When someone is interested in what Schmidt's preaching, she either meets with them for a mini-Bible study or leaves them Jehovah's Witness literature.
  
  "Occasionally it's hard to balance everything I do with door-to-door work," said Sheridan Dull, 22, a part-time pioneer. "It really helps to put spiritual things first because the other things fall into place a lot easier."
  
  Schmidt, Dull and other pioneers cover different areas in the valley so they hit every neighborhood without dominating a single area.
  
  Sometimes, though not often in the valley, Jehovah's Witnesses run into people who do not want to talk and feel the Witnesses are invading their privacy.
  
  In several areas, including the Valley of Stratton in Ohio, cities have developed ordinances and permit requirements for door-to-door preaching to "protect privacy."
  
  However, in 2002 the Supreme Court banned Stratton's permit requirements under the pretense that it was unconstitutional, setting the precedent for other state permits and ordinances.
  
  "Personally we don't consider it soliciting," Pogainis said. "We consider ourselves preachers," said Max Pogainis, Cathy Lou's husband.
  
  Jehovah's Witnesses don't experience too much opposition in the valley, Cathy Lou said.
  
  "Here we get a lot of indifference and apathy," Pogainis said.
  
  An indifferent or apathetic person may yield time with Jehovah's Witnesses because many times indifference and apathy is spawned from misinformation, Max said.
  
  Many people believe Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe in God - they do; that they are disrespectful to the government - they remain neutral to all situations; and they willingly let people die because of their stubbornness regarding modern medicine.
  
  Jehovah's Witnesses are frequently criticized for not choosing to get involved with national or world politics.
  
  They never endorse candidates, take a position in a time of war or lean toward one side, Max said.
  
  "We can work the ways of peace and we may have to suffer but in the long run it will benefit mankind," Max said.
  
  In West Virginia State Board of Education vs. Barnette, a landmark case in 1943, Jehovah's Witnesses tested their right not to speak by refusing to salute the American flag.
  
  "We respect the flag but we view the pledge as an act of worship and we would never use that disrespectfully," Max said.
  
  Complacency as well as their refusal to salute the American flag has pegged Jehovah's Witnesses as disrespectful to the U.S. government, Max said.
  
  Jehovah's Witnesses are also criticized for refusing to take blood from others.
  
  While this may not seem too harmful, "thou shall not kill one's neighbor," it becomes controversial in life-or-death situations when a patient refuses a blood transfusion.
  
  In the past 30 years doctors have worked closely with Jehovah's Witnesses to develop medical marvels that coincide with the Witnesses values, Max said.
  
  No matter how invasive or disrespectful Jehovah's Witnesses may seem to some, the Supreme Court has supported Jehovah's Witnesses and their First Amendment rights for the past 50 years.
  
  "Because we're in hard times right now people like hearing about hope," Schmidt said. "I think because of that I've seen more receptiveness to our door-to-door work."
