I've taken the idea to live my life the best I can. I don't have any "hopes", but I set myself goals for the future, which keeps me going. As for Paradise On Earth, Heaven, etc, I'll find out either when I die, or when it happens. Until then, I'm making the best of my life.

No Eternal Life---Now What Hope Do You Have?
by minimus inone thing all witnesses have had in common is the belief that they would someday inherit everlasting life.
as more and more express the thought that they really don't have much hope for the future, has anything replaced the hope of eternal life in paradise earth?
or are we ultimately, hopeless?

A Growing Irritant
by Inkie inmore and more lately when i have occasion to read any of the society's publications or any postings here at this site which quote the society's publications i find more and more lately that i become really irritated, annoyed, chafing, at the redundant phrase "anointed christians.
" it just irritates the hell out of me.
i don't necessarily understand the "why" of this annoyance only that i recognize that i have it.

I find myself incredibly annoyed at the word "Theocratic". That word is used so damn much, it makes me want to puke. Think of the word. Doesn't it sound absolutely retarded? Sounds like "Theo the crack addict".

Wasting Time In The Ministry--How Did You Do It??
by minimus ini know of a couple of elders that regularly went out in the ministry throughout the week.
no matter which street they were on, they always seemed to be near the same spot.
someone here talked about the michael jackson moonwalk.

I remember when I was in a car group with one elder. After we left the house we were meeting at, the Elder drove his car to a garage, and had his car fixed while we were sitting in it. After some time, we got out of the car and went for coffee break. After coffee, we got back into the car, waited for it to be fixed, went on a couple of RVs, then went home. Very productive day!

What's The Worst Thing The WT.Society Has Taught?
by minimus inout of all the wrong things the watchtower society has taught, which do you feel are the worst?

The stupidest thing they've ever taught is that Jeehovah's people are loving people. We should be the judge of that, not the society. Second would have to be "The End Is Right Around The Corner".

I can somewhat relate to you Silence. My mother became a JW when I was 5. I was never baptized. However, I was more forced to go to meetings in my teens than my childhood because after my dad quit drinking, he decided to start following my mother's religion. Here's the good news - my father never went through with baptism either. My parents are still together, but I don't know how long that's going to last (read my post: Some things chewing at my mind). A great thing about never being baptized is that you can talk to anyone - worldly, apostate, disfellowshipped, and even the ones that you used to chat with in the Kingdom Hall. We have that freedom, and we're lucky.

Will I always be a JW??????? :(
by Jesika ini was wondering, since i was raised a jw, will i ever get rid of the mindset of being a jw.
i have been out for 12yrs, but still find that certain things i say, or think, or react to remind me of being a jw.
like with the current things going on with iraq and the us.

I know where you're coming from, and I've thought this many many times. There's been a lot of this going on ever since I left. However, I usually re-assure myself that God really couldn't be so cruel to eliminate everyone who isn't a JW - even if they're good people.
I've been out for about 7 years, and I still find myself thinking this. I doubt it will ever go away completely. The good thing is when I have kids, they'll never have to be put through this crap - if they make the right decisions.

Just wondering how this board relates to you. Were you ever disfellowshipped? Baptized? How long have you been in the borg? How long have you been out?
I could keep on going, but I only have a 15 minute break.

Couple of things eating my mind
by Nosferatu infirst of all, my active mother told me that a couple of months ago, there was an announcement made from the stage about an update on how to deal with child abuse situations.
apparently now, jws are suppose to go to the police now.
anyone else hear about this?

"If we're talking about the same letter read to the congregations this was more than just a couple of months ago... and even though the letter sounded as if their position on child abuse is a strong one... when you read between the lines the letter clearly states that "in states where it is required BY LAW" to report ANY incident of child molestation the elders had to do so... WHAT ABOUT THE REST of the STATES?!"
Ah, now it makes so much more sense!! Jeehovah has provided new light upon us! Hooray for the FDS for figuring out what they can do without breaking the law. Millions now living will never go to the authorities. Elders are policement too!
This really pisses me off.

" It's really quite easy... she just needs to grovel and beg and cry in front of the elders long enough and have enough bible studies with them and they will have no choice but to reinstate her.
Elders are not interested in motives intentions, they just want a show that makes them think they are in control... when in reality it is your mother who is in control."
Heh. I highly doubt that my mother would be able to beg and cry in front of the elders. She's too stubborn. She's told me many times that the Troof keeps her marriage together. My view on this is that the Troof keeps her under control since she doesn't have any self-control.
