I took my dedication and baptism very seriously. I knew I was supposed to pray to Jehovah and devote my life to serving him before I could get baptized. But I thought about what devoting my life to Jehovah would entail. It meant going door to door for a minimum of 10 hours a month, attending every meeting, marrying a JW, attending the never-ending conventions and assemblies. I decided I didn't want to be a slave to Jehovah, and thus I never took the plunge.
I'm thanking myself now for not doing it. If they had removed the "dedication" step, I would've been screwed.

i thought i would bring this up to another thread, because i saw that my old friend gary busselmen and others were baptised so young, as i was.
i recall a few years ago that a wt rag showed a picture of a little girl, not more than 8 or 9 years old being baptised into a life that she has no idea what it means for her for the rest of her life in dubland.. this reminds me of the hitler youth near the end of wwii: brainwashed, young and vulnerable.. here are my comments on the other thread.

the cong i was brought up in was a different one to the ones we were in when we got married.
growing up the meetings were a great social event for all us kids.

so, i decided that when i have get a study i would research all the questions as i go along so as to prove everything in the truth... i got 4 studies in about 2 months.
all was fine, until i reached i think chapter 6 in the bible teach book about the resurrection.

After I left and accidently found Randy's site, I sat on there for two whole days, just reading. It was unbelievable how I was getting all the answers I needed, and be prepared for the emotion that goes along with it. I left before they changed the whole 1914 generation doctrine. I only discovered that they changed it 6 years later. Because I wasn't going to meetings, I didn't know they had changed it. And here I was prepared anyday to die at Armageddon.
After I discovered they had changed that, I was really pissed off. It's like I had learned that the name for the color yellow was red. Since I was a child, I was taught that armageddon was going to come before the Generation of 1914 died. After discovering that I was taught a lie for almost 20 years, I was furious. Not only did they change the doctrine, but they blamed US for believing it!
Anyway I wish you well in your journey. There's a lot of stuff to learn, so don't be afraid to take a break when you need it. -
