Ray, I read the book well after I was out of the org. I was also thinking "I'm already out, why do I need this book?" It wasn't that I needed it, but it's just a fantastic book to read! There may also be a few other interesting things in there that you didn't know.
Since you're not looking to exit the org or search for answers, enjoy it as a good story and a good book.
I pretty much skipped the last chapter though since it's mostly about Franz's opinions and thoughts about his own faith. Completely useless to me since I don't believe in God.

well, i suppose it's like preaching to the converted; me obtaining this book, but i guess it's one of those things i just needed to do to finalize everything.. i know there are countless topics on ray franz' book.
but to finally pick it up, i feel like: 'i can hardly wait to read it'.. before, i more or less figured: 'i am out of the wtbts, so why bother?'.

Holy crap, I'm 30!

the other day, i was thinking about the last 10 years of my life.
bought a house, engaged twice, married once, and spawned once.

Another thing I remembered was my 20th birthday. What a mess that was. Me and my dad weren't getting along and I was spending most of my time at my girlfriend's place. But my dad demanded that I come home for supper every day after work.
I remember the bottle of wine on the table, and he wished me a happy birthday. I knew it was just a bribe that I would stay home that night. And he never celebrated any of my other birthdays since my mother became a JW, so why should he start celebrating now? What a mess. I took off after supper to my girlfriends place to have my real birthday celebration. I eventually moved in with her and her dad when things got bad at home.
Now I have my own home, and apparently my brother's coming in to help me celebrate. In other words, we're gonna get tanked, complain about my mother, and my brother's gonna get all sentimentally drunk. Good times! -

WingCommander, you took the words out of my mouth! That's another thing I was thinking about the other day - I wasn't SUPPOSED to see 30. I was supposed to be in Paradise Erf by now.
But what a shit morning it's been so far. I spilled my cup of water I had from yesterday, another co-worker scared the shit out of me in the lunchroom, and I spilled half of my breakfast on the floor - all within 10 minutes. If this is 30, I want 29 back!
