Update: I got a new job!
by Nosferatu inin my last post, i mentioned how i basically had a foot in the door for an hvac job with pretty good benefits although it was for $2 less per hour.
today, i got a call back from a job i interviewed for about two months ago.
the job is for $2 more per hour than what i'm making, company vehicle, 3 weeks vacation on start, a blackberry, and it's somewhat related to the electronics field... i'll be fixing electric wheelchairs :) .

Holy crap... I've started cleaning out the hard drive on my PC and deleting emails. You know how much digital shit you accumulate after 10 years? LOTS. Some of this stuff is hard to delete. Stuff I kept for a reason and stuff that I'd need to defend my ass if something goes wrong, but it's all irrelevant now.
And then there's the physical shit. I have all my music backups sitting here. I might have to invest in a safety deposit box. And my computer speakers, my 8-track player, and some personal paperwork. All going home or into the shredder pile. -

With the baby boomers getting old, there'll be no shortage of work.

Thanks for the support all, and mustang: thanks for relating that experience! It just confirms that this will be a good move if I get hired - at this point, I don't see why I won't get hired. I just need to wait for the background check to come back clear. Hey, I've never been in trouble and my driving record is pretty good.
Also, my dad isn't a JW. He just seems to know what's best for me as usual. All the things he's told me not to do, I did them and I don't regret any of it. I remember how unhappy he was when I moved out. Turned out to be the best thing for me! I was so happy being independent and free from his control (and of course away from the JW influence of my mother).
So, if they call and ask if I still want the job, you'd better believe that I'll go for it! -

Just as a side note, this was my 4th interview for an HVAC related job. One of the guys who interviewed me also came from the electronics field. He said that they've been having a difficult time keeping people because of the job market, so my 10 year stay at my current job made me desirable. He also talked about two people who left and regretted leaving the company (one of them came back).
They already had me fill out an application form and the form for the background check. Takes 4 days to come back, so it'll either be Friday or Monday.
But I'm looking forward to having a vehicle as my office. I never had an office window before, and the scenery will always be changing! And free transportation to and from work! That's a savings right there -

- "how did you work at that company for so long?"
Well, before things got stupid, I actually enjoyed my work and was being paid decently. When things started getting stupid (around 3 years ago), there were no decent jobs out there. Now, the job market is just crazy with all the baby boomers starting to retire.
Also, after looking at what other employers were paying for a starting wage for the type of work that I do, I became quite offended after my (4 month late) raise of only 50 cents, which didn't even cover the increase in gas prices. I should be making somewhere above $20 per hour. And that's another thing... the raises have been consitently late for the last 3 years. They promise the raise in April, we get thre raise in August. We help make the bosses successful, they neglect us.
They installed a new ERP software system last year (for 25 employees) which costs thousands of dollard both to implement and maintain. They re-arranged the stock room to the way they thought would work well with the new ERP system (but sucks for the employees), they're not using the system to it's full potential, and the same garbage inventory got transferred into it. The stuff that's been going out the door for the past few months has been unprofessional and incomplete, due to the person who keeps inventory not keeping any inventory.
When they decided to have four MANDATORY summer bbqs where the employees were told to supply the food, that was the straw that broke the camel's back. I started job hunting, and there's an abundance of jobs out there right now. -
