  I agree that a lot of dubs drink a lot... as for myself, I did as well, and then drank even more shortly after leaving, probably as a way to run from the added stresses thrown upon me after exiting.. (I'm not saying that that is a good thing, just being honest)..... but as I began to feel better about my place in life as a whole, though, my drinking became more under control.

  If you are looking for advice, remember that you are definitely better off outside, no matter what control the Borg or family has over you, whether conscious or unconscious. That, IMHO, is a very big step to living a healthy life as a whole.

  What is your worst fear?

  a recent death in my family triggered my worst fear - as irrational as it may sound - into a very real possibility.. let me explain: as a global culture, we simply accept that when someone dies, those who care about them will want to gather and offer a meaningful tribute to the person and those who survive them.

  with regard to my recently deceased family member - her own children decided against holding a memorial service for her surviving family, which included two children and their respective spouses, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

  yes, we are spread out over 2000 miles.

  I agree with everybody on burying a child. (I am the father of 4)

  Also, my wife and I are breaking up and she is kind of in and kind of out of Jwism. She has threatened to not let me see my kids, since she knows that would be the easiest way to hurt me. What scares me is that her mother and likely other JW's are going to convince her and help her to follow through with it.

  Cain and Abel..... why the disagreements?

  when i was quite young, (about 8 years old) and i was told about the abel being favoured by god, cain getting jealous and killing abel story, i couldn't help but wonder why god was so hard on cain.

  i am certainly not condoning cain killing his brother, but since god made both the animals that abel was offering and the veggies that cain was offering, why was cain looked down on?.

  also, why did it seem better to god to kill an animal that abel offered, as opposed to thinking, well at least cain is only wasting some food.

  Francois, as usual, has a very simple yet profound way of looking at this.

  It has always been my opinion, (although not really understood until recently), that the Old Testament is a bunch of hooey!! I don't think that Christians should put as much stock in it as they do.

  No offense intended towards the Jewish people, since all other ancient cultures were very primitive in their beliefs in a God as well. However, it seems to me from my research that Christians as a whole believe that the Jews were the chosen people. I have never, personally been able to grasp that fact. I am JUST a lowly human, but I cannot accept that our Higher Power would be as evil as is exemplified in the Old Testament.

  Personally, I agree with the fact that the winners of the wars got to write history. Humanity accepted the Jews' stories, and therefore their God, because they seemed to be the only ones who INCLUDED and ADMITTED their failures, other than that one big one called Jesus....

  At that point it became acceptable to adopt the Jewish history, since they FINALLY made a big enough mistake to be able to see that they were fallible as well. Isn't it interesting that when we look back at history, even in the Bible, it is always about how much better we are than the people of the past?

  I still believe though that certain religions have been and still are more evil than others.

  Francois, in 50 words or less, if you had to describe an exact faith for you, what would it be?

  I'd have to say that I agree wholeheartedly with CC Ryder on the guilt thing. Possibly my personality, (having gone through great emotional abuse at home as well), caused the guilt thing to be more prominent. But I would say that my whole life in the Borg was nothing to do with love and ALL to do with GUILT!!

  Thoughts on The Apostle Paul

  it's early on a saturday morning and i really couldn't sleep.

  so, i'm just rambling on right now.

  i got to thinking, are many of the divisions in christianity caused by the writings of the apostle paul?

  Great points everybody...... never really thought about how messed up Paul's advice was to that depth before.

  I usually just kept it fairly simple, in regards to my opinion of him:

  1) the damned bugger was a part of the group that killed that really nice guy Stephen... I would have never trusted him completely after that... but even if I did...

  2) the bloke had bad eyes ..... did he even know what he was writing?

  So basically he was a mean mother ...... that either didn't know what he was writing or if his eyes were REALLY bad, then can you imagine how the guy or guys who wrote some of that stuff and what they wrote or changed.... how funny they thought it would be to have so many people trying to make sense of it 2000 years later!!!!!!!

  By the way, I get some of my humour from Calvin of "Calvin and Hobbs"..... no offense but sometimes it is necessary to make "life a little more surreal"

  i know that was about the age i began to read really well, and only five years later i left "the truth", so it was a crucial point in my life, as it is in the lives of many...?.

  isn't it easy to spot jw's?

  not only by the way they dress, but also by the way they crowd up cars.. just about every time i see 4 or more people in a car, especially when driving slowly, i know they are jehovah witnesses.. what other traits do they alone have?

  Similar to country girl...... a smugness that somehow still lacks confidence!! The kind of look that is more easily identified by former dubs..... the kind of look that says, "If you try to have a spiritual conversation with me I will prove to you that I am absolutely right, and I will also hope that you are not perceptive enough to realize that my INNERMOST emotions are in complete upheaval due to the fact that it is actually impossible to be absolutely right!!!!"

  if you think about it, the parents are basically trained to look at their kids as if they are lesser human beings than them..... you know the old head of the house crap!!.

  i know from my personal experience, i was df'd in 1992, but i never made the definite decision to never go back until 1997. .

  I strongly believe that it is VERY difficult to be a good parent in the Borg!! If you think about it, the parents are basically trained to look at their kids as if they are lesser human beings than them..... you know the old head of the house crap!!

  I know from my personal experience, I was df'd in 1992, but I never made the DEFINITE decision to never go back until 1997.

  When I made that decision to never go back, my cousin, (a never in), but never condemning me while I was in either, said to me , with a wonderful glow in his eyes, "Isn't it nice to not KNOW EVERYTHING?" It was one of the most profound statements ever made to me, for it made me realize how CLOSED my mind had been.

  This brings me to the main point of the inability of JW's to respect their kids:

  My oldest (of four) kids was born on August 2nd, 1994. My son was two and a half at the time that I realized that the Borg was the wrong thing for me. He was at that wonderful age of developping HIS OWN personality. (Absolutely no sarcasm intended there.) My viewpoint towards my son also changed drastically at that point where my mind became open.

  When he was born I thought I was going to spend the next 20 years of my life teaching him how to become a man. After my mind-opening experience, I began to look at the reality being more to the fact that he was going to spend the first 20 years of his life teaching ME how to be a man.

  Do you think it was due to the JW holier than thou attitude? Or the head of the household crap? Or do you think that our MINDS just never function properly when closed?

  I would love some input and if your experiences are similar.... Thanks.....
