Do Mr Hughes and his solicitors have actual hard-copies of the old WT/Awake/etc mags with all the old nonsense in about vaccinations, etc?
(Possibly a stupid question)
If so I'd love to hear how the WT lawyer explains away New Light to a judge.

The Stem Cell experiment, good or bad?
by Brummie init was discussed by the president & kerry, it will be all over the news over the next few days because of the death of a hero, for some reason the stem cell issue scares me and i dont think i could support it, taking some voiceless life to improve another, maybe i am misinformed?
it all seems unethical.
i dont know all the facts, can you enlighten me please?.

What exactly is wrong with "playing God" anyway? Someone's got to do it - God's doing sweet FA to cure diseases! :)

I dropped my cell phone in some water :S
by Elsewhere ini'm afraid i killed my cell phone.
i flushed it out with some distilled water hoping that the mud-puddle water would be cleared out and right now i have it in the refrigerator trying to dry it out.
(frost-free refrigerators are great for dehydrating things).

Take it out of the bloody fridge!
Lay out some kitchen paper or a towel and carefully take the phone *completely* to pieces: Cover, screen, rubber button thing, battery, sim, big microchip, speaker etc, and leave overnight. My sister's came apart and went back together really easily.
My sister dropped her phone onto concrete into a puddle and I managed to get it to work once it was dry. About 4 months later the battery kept coming loose and Nokia refunded even though it had to go to the factory to be examined, they didn't say anything about it having been taken to pieces.
If it's old, it's worth a shot as you'll probably have to buy another anyway. -

Why do they shun only the DF/DA?
by ozziepost ini've been musing to myself - just wondering about the position of those who get df or who da - they are given the shunning treatment whenever they come across those good old christian dubs.. but those ex-dubs who simply fadeaway can come and go.
semingly they are ignored.. both "types" (classes?????
are non-active dubs, yet the treatment is reserved for just some.. seems strange.. or is it just me in upside down land?.

My mum's been shunned by most JWs in our area since 1991 - order of events:
1. Elder beats his wife repeatedly, this was fairly common knowledge.
2. Wife goes for help and 2 other elders rescue her and the kids (1 pre-school, 1 baby) and drive them out to our house in the country (miles from anywhere - actually was an emergency accomodation community provided by the city council for families in distress)
3. Elder politely asks mum's friend where we live - friend had no idea the wife and kids were with us.
4. Elder turns up in middle of night and *drags* the wife and children into his car. We have no phone and he's well gone by the time anyone can come to help.
5. Wife denies everything.
6. Elder is part of a very large and extremely prominent JW family = no-one will talk to mum, she got counselled for interfering in their relationship.
He was still an elder - we know that people refused to stay in the Hall if he was giving a talk - until his eldest daughter (now 17 or 18) got disfellowshipped and moved in with her boyfriend, *then* he stepped down.
What an arsehole. -

No X-Factor in me.
I saw Rowetta (when she was with the Happy Mondays) on Top of the Pops 2 late last night.
She is BARKING mad, but she can definitely sing. There's no-one I'm really attached to yet this time around - I *really* liked Suzanne (blonde, husky voice, massive smile, dressed like an explosion in a charity shop) on last year's Pop Idol - so I'll keep watching and see who stands out. -

Good god, let the child die !
by Simon in.
a big story in the uk right now.. from the descriptions of the childs condition on the radio, where it was said she was in constant pain, i think it would be right to allow her to die.
she has zero chance of any kind of quality of life and prolonging this suffering is just inhuman.. if scientists were doing this to an animal, there would be complaints that it was cruel.. a sad story indeed, but sometimes the kindest thing is to let go .... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3701492.stm.

He added they would like to look forward to taking their daughter out "so that she can have the feel of fresh air on her skin".
Then she should be allowed to die outside. :(
It's just so heartbreaking - I want to say it's her parents' choice, but what is best for her is more important, her suffering will just be strung out even further if she her "life" is saved again: I think there are fates worse than death. :( :( -

Suggetions for handling a difficult situation?
by Stefanie inmy daughter came home from shcool yestarday red!
after a private discussion with her, she said a girl in school whom she has gym with (7th grade) told another girl that her uncle has been touching her!
my daughter wasnt part of the conversation but she stepped in and asked if she (victim) has spoken with the counselor yet.

When the girl's uncle finds out hopefully he won't be in a position to do *anything* to *anyone*.
I was going to suggest that if your daughter didn't know the name of the girl - schools have photographs of all of the kids (either copies of individual photos, or class photos) I know cos some boys in my year when I was in school got busted for something that way when an irate passer-by came up to school(!), I'm sure most schools are the same. -

Of course Jesus died on a pagan cross, the Romans were pagan!
Exactly! I *never* understood the cross vs stake argument based on it "being pagan", even when I was a kid.
