MIND RAPE?

i read something recently, possibly, (no probably) here, on the subject of mind rape.

my encounter with the jws was kind of self inflicted, i.e.

i was not brought up in it.. i am sort of coming to the conclusion, that is meaning, that with my association with the witnesses and reading here, that those that were introduced to this particular form of mind control later on in life, seem to be more adversly affected mentally than those that have the misfortune of being 'brought up in the faith'.

I entered the shadow of the watchtower at 35. As to being more adversely affected, I don't think so. The difference, IMHO, is that when one enters as an adult, they give up and walk away from their life and friends. I did! The result is, now that we have left that shadow, we're finding our true friends and family hadn't abandoned us. They were just waiting for us to return (come to our senses). On the other hand, those that I know who have grown up with only the watchtower as their guide in life, have to make choices about their life that they may not be equipped to make to the benefit of their growth. Youth, as I remember it, was the time to test the waters, to see which direction to go, to grow up and be allowed to make mistakes. Those who grew up as a witness now are leaving their cloistured lifestyle, the time for experimentation may have passed.

I'm finding it much easier walking away compared to the many on this board...but my (our) family was on the outside waiting...maybe that's the difference.

i've heard different "apostates" say that witnesses are so brainwashed that they would kill, if ordered by the faithful slave.

I asked the elder who studied w/ us that exact question. His response, "If that's what is asked, that's what I'll do!". Yes, it did make the hair on my neck stand up, but he made such a convincing argument (Ok, reality check, I had the blinders on, along w/ the collar and leash by that time). This man was in the military (WW2), has a collection of big-bore rifles, and hunts regularly. There is no doubt in my mind he would pick up one of those cannons and blow the head off of whoever the GB told him to, including me or his Df'd son!

my mother told us last night that her po told her we are disassociated.

no announcement was made.

she is upset, and i told her i would call him.. at first she didn't want me to do that, but later changed her mind.. so, i left a message on his answering machine.he will call me.........he always returns my calls.

Its amazing for an organization that is supposed to think in one mind, they handle things so differently. In our case, I asked them to define "leaving the faith", but they wouldn't (or couldn't). They wanted us to tell them to remove our names from their "book". (like their book of names has any Christian value or something). So in our situation, they made us make the decision. Sounds like there's disunity in the WTS universe. (Super Nova time, maybe??????)

Thanks for the report and the courage to follow thru. Also, thanks for the idea to record the conversation. Did that for my final meeting (I think) with the elders. Its truly amazing how, as you listen again to what was said, you realize what a pile of cr*p it is.

So now that you've been certified, how about a mission to NY to get those 23,000+ files exposed? My son and I would volunteer to "run cover" for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A completely different look -"Crack in the Cosmic Egg" - Joseph Chilton Pearce

Book will give you a completely different perspective on what we consider reality. And from all the books everyone suggested, may I add Eveylin Woods 7 day Speed Reading Course (it's like $3.95U.S.). It helped me go from a snail's pace (couple hundred words a minute) to over 1200 wpm. You can really burn through books at that rate. But be warned - it sticks with you. I find myself being able quote WTS books in my sleep because of her course...

They're Baaaaaaack

just got off the phone w/ the elder that was supposed to meet me in the parking lot.

all i felt was pity for this poor man who couldn't come out and say what he was really feeling.

instead, just excuses.... 1. meeting in the parking lot - they just wanted to meet there for my convienence.

1. Meeting in the parking lot - they just wanted to meet there for MY convienence. Told him next time we can meet in my office. The chairs probably are more comfortable. His response was he wanted to "visit" with both of us, at the hall or at our home or anywhere else we might want to meet. (I'm thinking a nice restaurant or a beach in the Bahamas, and have them pick up the bill??????)

2a. No contact for two weeks - the letter Jackie sent, letting them know I waited and her feelings about the parking lot meeting seems to have fallen behind his desk...thus the lateness of the call.

2b. The PO had to go to Colorado to attend to family matters (lever transplant for brother). We have 9 elders, you'd think they could have someone fill in for him.

I'm not even sure I want to meet with them. The verbal battle might be fun, but up to now its just, the only word I can think of now, pathetic. The letters say how we feel. And they've already told the people at the hall not to talk w/ us...as my boss is known for saying, "I don't think we have a dog in this fight." Any input would be appreciated.

inspired by stephanus's mysterious ruth and how the story is unfolding..........it would be kinda fun to start a story and have everyone contribute to it to see what we can come up with.. there are so many talanted writers on this board.. anyone care to start?

i'm not good at starting a story, but will have no problem in jumping in.. any ideas for a story line?

Why not a special catagory for this? We did this once at work. It was great and helped lot's of us relieve hostile tendencies. Of, course, several of the people who were active in it lost their jobs during the last round of "downsizing", but Simon wouldn't do that , would he????????????????????

To DA or not to DA...

just read the posts about dissassociating.

wondering what the advantages/disadvantages are.. i myself had my meeting attendance drop about 1989. during this time, i found the truth about jws through books like those of raymond franz and never went back.

aside from my father trying to coax me back in, no other jw (elder or otherwise) has ever brought up the subject or hunted me down to make a decision.

Wife and I sent letters at the same time saying we were out - (they can keep their dis-word - won't honor them by using it). I could stand up and say how morally right it is to take this type of action, but from what I have learned lately, I would be wrong. The deep-rooted thought processes involved may and does cause strong emotions and mental situations to develop. These may require more help and strength than can be provided here. In our case, we needed a strong demonstration to our three sons about the hypocracy of conditional love and friendship shown by those at the hall. The witness folks (elders and so-called friends) acted as expected by completely cutting off any communication with us. The lesson, though painful, has shown them that just because someone says they love you or are your friend, it doesn't mean they really are...

so mom, you agree??????

ANYONE TRY HYPNOSIS?

i'm considering trying hypnosis to help me win my everlasting battle with weight, but naturally i have feelings of guilt because we were told as jws that we cannot use hypnosis....... .

anyway, has anyone here ever tried hypnosis?

i would be interested in hearing if it helped you at all.

Been doing some serious studying to get certified in midwest U.S., and practising self-hypnosis. Has had real positive effects on my concentration abilities at work and has helped me stay away from certain foods. As posted earlier, if you decide to do this, look for a certified hypnotherapist and ask for references. There's much more to it than just "watching the watch". Once I get certified, and hang out my shingle, you can come for a complementary session - and I prefer having people purrrrrrr like a kitten!

DF = DA = non-assocciation?

equivilency between officially disassociating onesself, and simply being in a state of.

non-association as a walkaway, fade-out, inactive person.

Made sure in "the letter" to elders where I told them I was going away for awhile, I didn't even come close to the d' word. But, the elders have passed the word through the congregation that no one should be talking with us now. This happened last week, so yes, I think a hard-line approach is coming, and its coming like "brighter light" on the front of a speeding freight train. (By the way, have you ever seen a freight train wreck - maybe this will be the beginning of the end????)
