well, i was talking on the phone to my best friend and we started talking about aliens, spirits, etc.

and eventually we got around to discussing the ouija board.

since i was raised a jw and have only been out a year, the ouija board was of course forbidden and even a little scary.

If you associate pain in that belief then yes, you find a reason not to believe.

I'm reminded of a Star trek the next generation episode in which a little boy suffered extreme trauma when he lost his parents in some accident. Instead of dealing with the pain associated with his loss, he simply took favor with the Character of DATA the android who felt no emotion. He simply mimicked the behaviour of this ultra logical android....there was no need to experience pain if he pretended to be like him---a computer. I see this alot with people who been hurt and betrayed while in a religion. They throw out their belief in God and replace it something more tangible and concrete. The tend focus the rest of their energy on disproving this "Illogical pie in the sky" belief in an all powerful deity. It helps them understand...gives them perspective. But does extreme logic and it's analytical components give us a reason NOT to believe? Or is it deep pain and despair that fuel this view....This forum is filled with people who suffered greatly. But is that ultimately a viable excuse to throw away your personal faith in a God?

All it takes is one tiny little nuke placed anywhere on U.S soil....doesn't even have to be in a populated area and you can kiss all our rights good bye! The economy collapses with the rest of world's economy in tow. Before all this, Bush goes in gun-ho-like killing Sadaam----making him a martyre to the rest of the muslim world. ....We all know how crazy people can get when promised eternal paradise. 800,000,000 muslim cry out it anger and disgust as the GREAT SATAN occupies the third most holy land in the muslim land. The rest of the planet despises the U.S as it is....No one will mourn for us! How fat and arrogant have we become in this country! Can we really fade away for good

i was wondering how long an inactive witness can stop going to meetings before the elders can disfellowship the person?

some are saying that the elders will visit inactive ones in jan,feb,march.

is there a strategy up their sleeve?

Why fade away??? why not formally leave the org??? Or is it that are you covering your ass just in case you decide to go back in the future. ?????!

In ancient times, little green men were considered to be demons from hell....In modern times, these same green creatures were associated with beings from outer-space.... What are we to extract from this? Are they figments of our super-subconscious? can they be from outer-space? can they be from another dimension? The most logical explanation doesn't always tell the whole story. What if they turned out to be from outer space. Why would that be more plausible than beings from another dimension? Why? Some things cannot always be explained with the tools available to us. Can there be a compromise....A middle ground that we can come to? Or has empirical data become our new DEITY....It's interesting that for all our protests, we eventually end up placing our FAITH in something or someone---concrete, abstract or otherwise.

Then maybe faith could be just part of a bigger "equation" The fact that we have the ability to override logic , and think beyond our present reality may give credence to the Idea of a "spirit" or unseen world. I mean, at the very least, you can agree that we are but a tiny speck of dust in the grandness of the universe. If that's the case then how can you have a monopoly on truth? Just because you cannot conceive of or have evidence for an alternate reality does not invalidate its existence. How can you PROVE that there is NOT a god? Or is it because there is no evidence OF a god. Again. how can you measure a spirit? It's like trying to prove the existence of emotion to a sociopath.....He may understand the definiton but he will never understand it until he EXPERIENCES emotions for himself. Until then it's just a theory to him. again, faith, god spirits cannot be explained or proven with just logic or evidence....something extra is needed, something within us that cannot be measured with logic.

Also, diff. personality styles gravitate towards abstract thinking patterns compared to the more traditional concrete thinking. This all has an effect on how you perceive reality and your place in it. Thus, a concrete thinker approach the spirit world with scepticism since it can't be measured and explained logically. But an abstract thinker does not need logic to believe in something that is absent from view. thus, the absence of "PROOF" of a spiritual world does not necessarily negate it's existence. But it's all just theory in the eyes of a rationalist. Fortunately, Faith has a way of filling in the gaps for a small sector of the population. "Not everything can be measured with a six inch ruler" At least not with me

So this life is all there is???? Simplistic spirit world??? ....I guess it's easier to believe that this material life is all there is. This is especially true if you are removed or leave an ORG. that tells you the exact opposite. Easier on the conscience too I would presume!

Yeeeaaaahhh, go ahead, open up those portals......Why not! What have you got to lose now! Then try some Voodoo and Juju while your at it. What have you got to lose right?? Caus' there's no such thing as God or nothin right??? Go ahead, play with that board....It's all in "good fun" right? Caus' if there ain't a god then there's certainly no devil either.....Go ahead Plm, play all you want Say hello to all those "nice" Elementals that will soon park themselves on your shoulders just waiting to feed off of all those wonderful negative emotions you'll soon develop after the fact! They especially like EX-JW'S who tend to harbor much anger and resentment. Cheers!

What Are You All Doing Now?

i am at a crossroads in my life, and wanted your opinions:.

i have been d/f for 18 months, i have learnt enough to know jws are completely misguided, but my sis has also been d/a for questioning things, she has been doing the alpha course and is getting baptised at a baptist church next weekend, which i am very pleased for her to be doing if she feels it's right.

i am in a quandry as i am very sceptical about going to another religion, i know many i have spoken to say, it isn't joining a religion but just associating with other christians.

geez, XANDER....Those JW's must of really done a number on you! If Jesus were to come back and personally introduce himself to you I think we would have another murder on our hands!
