I don't have grandchildren yet...hopefully not too soon but not too long either. This thread did make me think about my grandmother though. She was not a witness but she did live with us most of the time when I was a teenager. She would not go to the hall with us, she always had someone from her church pick her up. I loved that! She was living with us when my husband Ken and I started going out. When we were engaged he used to play his guitar and sing with her. She thought he was wonderful.
There was one time when Ken was sitting at the island in our kitchen and I was standing in front of him, kind of between his legs with his arms around me. My mother was giving me dirty looks and my little tiny grandma piped up and said "Oh leave them alone, they're just spooning." LOL I loved her so much. I could talk to her about things without having to bring the "truth" into it.
I remember how delighted she was at our wedding. She was sitting with the "wordly" relatives and they were being mostly ignored by the congregation. Ken had a tape of old songs that she loved. I didn't know he had it till he put it in the sound system then walked across the room and asked her to dance. Ken is 6'6" and my grandma was all of 5' but they were wonderful. I will never forget how her eyes sparkled.
OK, I'm getting sappy now, I'll stop. I just hope I can be as good of a grandmother as she was when my turn comes. I plan to be. els

Grandparents
by Granny Linda inhappy holiday, everyone.. i just wanted to say that being a grandparent is one of the greatest joy's.
i know there are other grandparents posting on this board who are proud of their offspring, too.. gosh, for all those lost years of having been raised jw - not really getting to know my maternal grandparents except through the eyes of an emotional jw.

Capp, I am astounded at the audacity of this woman and her husband. And to act as if they have a monopoly on quoting scriptures correctly. There should be an emoticon with steam coming out it's ears for how I feel right now.
It would be different if she had stolen the jams to feed her children, but to send them to her mother? She probably said that she made them!
I am so sorry you had to go through this, especially when you are already busy and somewhat stressed out. It does really show what some witnesses are all about, doesn't it? It seems they don't really care about inactive ones coming back or they would have handled this whole mess differently.
I am sure you will come up with a wonderful gift, you seem like a caring and creative person.
I am curious to know if you make marion berry jam. My sister in law is from the Seattle area and gets this from her mom. She always passes a jar on to me and I love it. It has such a unique flavor. els -

by patio34 indon't mean to be gripey, but would like to vent about two observations i've made lately:.
1) a mother whose child wouldn't follow her soon enough at the grocery store.
she said "okay, goodbye!

My daughter has quite a nice chest and does wear low cut shirts at times, but if a guy looks too long while they are having a conversation she puts a finger under his chin and lifts his head up. Works every time.
TTBoy: What's up with you? I haven't seen you around here for a while. els -

by els inplease read your response in stormbringer's "jah" thread and then your response in my "jws behavior on 9-11" thread on nov. 18.. maybe you were just having a bad day but your comment to me bordered on sarcastic and it really surprised me.
i was just "seeking some genuine information" and yet you didn't seem concerned about the board "losing touch" with me.
how can you criticize others responses when your's was very similar?

I think he should pick Brooke because Helene's laugh is irritating.[>:(] Actually, tonight is the only night I've seen it so I don't have a clue.

How can you criticize others responses when your's was very similar? Maybe I was overreacting. If so I apologize. I've had a crappy week and my nerves are a little raw. els
