  i was reading through the terrisfight.org site and ran across the section "how you can help".

  there is a petition to sign on the site to save terri.

  As I stated in my original post, Terri's case is complicated but it is the current hot topic that leads to discussion on the issue.

  The point is that we start with people like Terri who are called "vegatative"...and then we see movies like "Million Dollar Baby" where the person was not vegatative but simply didn't want to live with a disability and yet the movie glorifies that her friend killed her, as a gesture of love...WHAT NEXT....each case leads to another and another and another...and each one make it easier and easier to justify ending someone misery if they are not considered "Normal". THAT is my concern...the overall view of society that this is okay. I don't want people deciding for me that I am not normal enough and need to be put out of my misery.

  As a person with a disability myself as well as someone who works with the disability rights movement I just want to say thank you to those of you who posted comments concerning the value of life and the slippery slope this type of situation starts down.

  I respect people's right to disagree with me but the "better dead than disabled" attitude that some people have sometimes is quite frustrating.

  Terri's situation is very complicated and I don't begin to know all the answers but as has been pointed out...while she is admittedly very low function, she recognizes family and friends, shows some emotions and is not in a great deal of pain, at least from the reports that I've seen. The complication of a fueding family and the lack of a living will makes this very hard.

  She is not on life support other than a feeding tube...should she starve to death simply because her stroke no longer allows her to feed herself.

  I'm not sure of the answer in Terri's case but I think the overall attitude that a less than normal life is somehow less of a life altogether and therefore easier to eliminate scares me. As someone said earlier...who next...the mentally ill, the elderly....Me ?

  Again, thanks to those others who raised those points, I post them here all the time but coming from me, someone who is disabled and therefore biased, some people think it is just being overly sensitive or too militant.

  signs will say something like...

  "free celebration, thursday - march 24th at sundown

  Here is one of the Documentaries...."Why the Towers Fell" This was a NOVA Special and involved the original architect...obviously there are no cloak and dagger conspiracy theories or illuminati or mossad references, just facts from engineers and people who were on scene for both construction and the aftermath of the terrorist attacks.

  There have been numerous documentaries involving the architects of the WTC who demonstrated the unique modular steel frame construction and the center core issues and is is quite clear why the building collapsed the way it did. They showed actual news reel footage of the buildings being erected and then showed the structural debris following the attack. No big mystery unless you are looking to make one.

  Maybe it was macgyver with a piece of chewing gum and a paper clip.....

  Personally...when I watched it on my TV...I saw planes loaded with jet fuel and innocent people flying into the buildings.

  The Schiavo casie is very difficult....she is obviously very low function....but she does communicate at the most basic level (eye blinks, recognizes people, etc). What complicates matters is the feud between her husband and her parents, who claim her husband actually may have caused her original stroke through abuse. There is also, from my understanding, no clear indication of Terry's wishes other than her husband's word that she did not want to be maintained via machine.

  I have made my wishes clear in a durable power of attorney for health care to my wife to avoid any questions in the future.

  Were I in Terry's situation I'm not sure what I would want...but even if I decided to die I would not want to starve to death because my feeding tube was removed.
