  Mom in Hosp - Refusing Blood

  my mom is a dialysis patient and has had a couple of heart attacks.

  she is 65 or so...never celebrated a birthday so no real clue.... she went into the hospital yesterday with a bleeding ulcer...they thought they sealed it all up but her blood count continues to drop.

  due to her dialysis she can only get iv's in one arm and it is difficult to find a good vein.

She called tonight to remind me that I should not interfere with her care because they are having problems getting a decent IV for the plasma expanders...

  Gee thanks mom...Hi son, I might die over a stupid leaking ulcer because my cult wont allow me get the transfusion I need...don't interfere, dont come visit...love you...hope I dont die but if I do dont show up at the hall and cause problems....

  What the hell is wrong with these people....it just sucks...thanks for the vent...

  ironic isn't it that such a fuss was made about saddam possible having / using them and how terrible that would be.

  seems ok for us to use chemical weapons though.. such sickening hypocrisy.. .

  Oddly enough much of the stockpiled WMD that Saddam stashed and WILL someday be found will show to be US made as well since at one time he was considered a friendly.

  Personally, and I know it will not be a popular opinion....the problem I have is nerve agents...used on his own people and at one time available for him to use on others. A little white phosphorus between friends and enemies to shed a little light on the fight or motivate hostiles to leave their positions of cover..not so much of a problem personally.

  Just my opinion - not about to change it so I don't intent to get involved in a debate on the topic.

  For me "being a Christian" means a personal acceptance as truth and belief in Bibical teaching and theology. I may not "see" it, or even aways understand it but therein lies the "faith".

  As far a being a "good" Christian....I guess it depends on your definition.

  I am not a murderer, and yet I believe in the death penalty and in protecting my family by force

  I am not a strict churchgoer..don't preach to people and am not always quoting scripture

  I cuss, smoke the occassional cigar, enjoy an adult beverage now and then and have a relationship with my loving wife of 15 years that works for us but would not work for everyone.

  I am a chaplain and in recent years have shed countless tears with families that have lost loved ones in war, terror attacks and other service to their communities and country.

  Am I a good Christian ? Many would say no... Some would call me a drinker, a pervert or question my brotherly love because of my views on guns, capital punishment or other issues.

  I think I do okay for a sinner.... I care for my family, am loyal to my friends and try to do my part to make things better for those in pain or in need.

  I'll get back to you on how it turns out once I hit the pearly gates !

  dad - mr. mom 3 days a week - husband - full service wheelchair stud 911 communications officer - 24+ years on night shift elected official- 2 term city council - politician - active with state/national GOP business owner - expert witness - professor/educator - disability God ! author - textbooks & motivational stuff singer - barbershop quartet cub scout den leader active chaplain/wedding officiant local labor union president jeeez.....no wonder i'm so tired lol

  I sing in a Barbershop Quartet. Any other singers ?

  my favorite stress management tool (besides being goofy with my kids) is singing in a barbershop quartet.

  just 4 voices...ringing harmonies....i know its old fashioned and sappy but i like it.. any other old..or young farts out there that sing barbershop....or other styles too?.

  how does music and being able to express yourself with it effect your life?.

  I was part of a BBShop chorus but really prefer the quartet.

  We made a CD demo but it met with such high demand that we stuck with just the 5 copies LOL

  We were very lucky back that back on St. Patrick's Day in 1999 we were invited to Killarney Ireland. Sang in several shows...(several more pubs) and even at St. Mary's for Sunday Services. It was amazing.

  If you have a need to make your ears bleed I'll try to pull some mp3 files of the cd's and post a couple.

  Here is a picture...I'm the devilishly handsome one on wheels....try to control yourselves ladies...once you've had it "to go" you'll never want to eat at home.

  Anybody here who still has faith in God and belief in the Bible?

  there seems to be a lot of folks here who are bitter and want nothing to do with organized religion (understandable!

  ) or the belief in a god who cares about us, and has a "plan".or even anyone who has actually read and studied the bible, and understands what's going on it it.

  so many just take stuff out of context looking for "mistakes" and loopholes.

  I never stopped believing in God or the Bible....Just the BS of the "org".

  I happen to be a Chaplain....not your typical one I am sure. I am irreverent, I cuss and I have not sung "shall we gather at the river" for years. I am an obnoxious, opinionated, SOB with a collar and a Bible but I truely care about the people that I serve. While I am personally a Christian, as a Chaplain I serve all faiths. I serve people in crisis...Cops, Fire Fighters, Crime Victims, Disaster Victims. I don't care if you are Jewish or Muslim or Baptist at the scene of a shooting, accident or fire.

  The only time you'll see me at a pulpit is to perform the occassional Wedding, Baptism and Funeral when asked.

  Faith, beliefs and values are personal and should be decided by each person guided by the documents, teachings and religion of your choice...if you choose to have one. People should not, as we all now know, blindly trust man made organization.

  Research, read, form opinions and let the buyer beware before you make a decision.

  I think there is another similar post and caligirl is puting together a xmas card exchange list. Must be a good idea though is so many people thought of it.

  Just found out today that I'm being appointed by the Governor to the State Developmental Disabilities Council...they said I have "an impressive background". Is that a nice way of saying I have a big ass ? LOL
