The study, conducted in gardens across the country, found Lincoln had the highest proportion of sparrows while London had the lowest. About 250,000 households across the UK took part in the survey conducted by The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). They counted the number of sparrows in their gardens between 3 May and 11 May, during the bird's breeding season. The population is thought to have slumped to between six and seven million pairs since a high of 12 million in the early 1970s League table The survey found an average of 7.3 sparrows were seen at homes where food was provided year-round, but the average fell to only 3.8 at homes where food was not provided. In Lincoln, there were 9.41 sparrows per garden compared to 4.53 in London, bottom of the RSPB's league table. Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Liverpool also recorded low numbers. If you do have house sparrows we urge you to look after them Richard Bashford RSPB Richard Bashford, RSPB house sparrow survey co-ordinator, said: "This survey gives us a better idea of where house sparrows are in the UK. In turn this should help us to identify the factors behind the decline." The survey was carried out by the RSPB after reports a few years ago that numbers were falling. This prompted the RSPB to organise a pilot survey in London in 2002 which showed a large decline in the "cockney sparrow". Mystery decline However, studies over the past 25 years have shown the bird's population has more than halved. "Once you've lost house sparrows it's not easy to encourage them back as we know they tend to stay within a mile or so of where they hatched. "However, they are thought to have three basic requirements to keep populations healthy: nesting sites, adult food, which is a year round supply of seeds, and chick food, consisting of a range of small insects. "So if you do have house sparrows we urge you to look after them." The RSPB has a simple three point plan to help house sparrows: Put up nest boxes. Many new houses and home improvements have restricted the number of suitable nooks and crannies for house sparrows to nest in Feed sparrows throughout the year and supply clean water. They feed mainly on seeds, especially cereal grain, but also seeds of grasses, polygonums, mouse-ear and chickweed Leave wild, weedy or shrubby areas in the garden that provide a natural seed source and supply of small insects

  i know it's an old movie, but i was watching it with my kids and i had to laugh aloud.

  kathy bates plays the cajun mom of the mentally borderline bobby boucher, and i just know she was a witness!!!

  A little history on the Bible

  it's always intresting to hear the answers you get from people about how and when the bible was formed.

  many minds go only as far as believing it was simply a compilation of god ordained books that we have to this day.

  below is just a small bit of information that many may not be familiar with.

  please, y'all out there..congratulate dansk on becoming a jedi master.. since we've been out (feb 03) this board and all you lovely people on it have been the greatest source of inspiration to both dansk and myself.

  you'll never realise how much you have helped us to cope with the whole ordeal.

  so reaching his jedi status is a real milestone.. you're all life-savers and you didn't even know it!!!.

  Where is the evidence

  many of you make claim that god does not exist, you say that you found your evidence in the bible, what i want to know is where is the evidence.

  Earlier it was stated that it was up to the believer to prove the existence of God. Surely if you believe God does not exist the same applies to you, provide the proof he doesn't.

  I’m sorry, but I have to agree with drwtsn32 and Bradley. Your statement indicates you haven’t been reading the posts. We can’t disprove God’s existence any more than you can prove he does exist. What we can prove is that the Bible isn’t infallible, it isn’t inspired of God and Yahweh is late arriving on the scene (there were almighty gods before him).

  OK, Mary, my bad. Apologies:

  I believe in God but I'm not convinced that 100% of the bible is the "absolute word of God" as I've stated in other posts. I think a lot of what's in the NT is Paul's personal opinions and thoughts, not inspired by Jehovah.

  So what parts do you believe in and why do you use the name ‘Jehovah’ when it has been proven to be erroneous?

  I’m distraught to learn that Watchtower received good publicity.

  The only JWs I know are smart as anything, yet remain firmly controlled by the WT, no matter how little sense that cult makes.

  Yes, intelligence has nothing to do with being sucked into the lies and deceit. Even now I can hardly believe I fell for that absolute trash – but then I come here and console myself that I’m not the only one.

  If they can just dump df'ing quietly, things might be fine.

  No they won't. The Borg, at least in my old congregation, seem to be less into disfellowshipping these days. Is this a loving move on their part? Like hell it is!! The only reason they're not DFing is because of all the bad publicity they're getting, so they use more subtle techniques to have one effectively disfellowshipped without actually having to announce it from the platform - they use shunning!

  I'm known as an apostate, that's serious grounds for disfellowshipping and yet - nothing! From the platform they merely give a warning to be wary of those who no longer associate, that they should be considered as dangerous apostates. Isn't it amazing, it doesn't take the Dubs two minutes to work out who is being referred to - and yet it takes them years before they realise they've been conned by Watchtower!

  They get everyone to walk past my family and I without their acknowledging us. My own daughters still shun us. Believe me, disfellowshipping is alive and well but under a different guise!
