i'm 19, i'm in the real world now.
i went to the dealership to buy a car, but was turn down, no credit history.
i have tried to apply for credit cards, but been turned down.
Oh...and did somebody say pay your bills, ALL OF THEM, on time?
And don't fall into the trap I was almost talked into early in life by non other than a JW who instructed me to run up all my credit, not pay for it, then, if you have to, file bankruptcy as a lot of them did during their rush headlong into the 1975 fiasco. You'll find yourself starting over and having to pay high interest all over again about every 7 to 10 years.
how many of you quit school b/c of the religion?
another question - how many of you did not go on to college / uni b/c of the religion?.
do you regret it?.

Those two are the very rare exceptions.
Every JW parent I've ever been exposed to had only one wish......that their kids would choose the "Career" of serving full-time in the ministry with a possible stint at Bethel. They don't even fathom that the kid might have to just make a living in this world first.

After I was married for awhile, my "grew up around the truth" wife raised holy hell when I mentioned to her that maybe we should go back to school. she'd have nothing of it. A few years later soon after she was borgified, I broached the subject again with the same results, to which she responded why go to school.....Armageddon is right around the corner. Well...a few years later suffering under a growing mountain of debt with a burger flipping job that was going nowhere fast, after falling spell bound to the borg and finding it all to be nothing more than a very elaborate pipedream, I broached the subject again with the determination that I was going to do it, even if she wasn't no matter what she thought. Numerous, knock-down drag outs and elder visits followed with them all trying to convince me I was wasting my time and that I should be in the feild "so close to the end".
Now my life and financial future is brighter than it's ever been and she no longer has to work all the while still trying to maintain the pretense that her , the elders, or the WT would never have tried to negatively influence anyones decision go to school and that it is up to a person's conscious. Whatever!!!
My biggest waste of time was not going all those years listening to janitor elders and useless WT magazines.
did it happen in your congregation that marriages seemed to be fixed up.
if you were a son or a daughter of an elder, probably you were expected to choose a very spiritual mate.
did you see this very often, or did you also see very spiritual marry not so spiritual?
Happened all the time in the first congregation I attended. It was creepy the way all those kids were pared up between the adults in those families almost from the time they hit puberty, and married off together as soon as they turned 17 or 18. AFter the lust wore off, most of them were divorced son after.
I knew at least one elder's kid who was on his second marriage to yet another unsuspecting and what he hoped for, spiritual virgin sister. Last I heard after a few years, that marriage soured too.
so, the organization never makes any mistakes, the elders are appointed by god, you should attend all the meetings.
because "it's the truth", blah blah, blah.. .
in my experience, as long as you're not too aggressive about it, there are three serious problems in the organization.
My husband has told me quite clearly that he would choose the "Truth" over me if forced to choose. He sees it as a test.
I guess I've never put my wife ina situation where she had to choose. Just let her know that If I plan an activity that overlapps a WT sponsored event, that it's clear that I'll go without her rather than let my life revolve around the WT schedule.
I would be heartbroken if my wife ever told me that to my face though and I'd probably start looking for other living arrangements. If she feels that strongly about them, though I love her, I'm more than willing to step aside and let them pay her bills.

If these women are so much "died in the wool" JWs then perhaps your dad should use the "head of the household" card to put all of them in check.

the way Essie described how her father felt when he saw the little girl coming out as the wedding was beginning.... a lot of people would be paralyzed by the shock and while realizing there was something horribly wrong going on,
If it was YOUR daughter / grand-daughter getting married that day, would you really want to be remembered as the one who "ruined the wedding" by having a huge outburst in a place of worship??
Scully, I guess I would've been a first class a$$hole that day then because I would've expected more from my daughter than to pull an "end run around" piece of shit stunt like that knowing full well how they treated this girls mother. I would've at least, registered my absolute disgust verbally immediately to them after the ceremony and called the girls mother to have her immediately come pick her up for the stunt they pulled; SOCIAL DECORUM BE DAMNED. I feel it would've served her right to have her special day tarnished at least a little for using the innocence of that little girl in their little game of one-upsmanship.
I'd like to know when did and if this man protest? Did he wait until after all the pictures were taken, after all the food was eaten, after the event was well over after using the girl as a pretty piece of meat against what he knew would be her mother's wishes...or did he only protest after the mother registered her complaint? How long did he "keep quiet" to not incur the wrath of his wife's anger?
I know if I were this girls father, it would indeed be an Ice Age in hell before any of these people spent any unsupervised time with this girl again.

I am glad to hear that your father is showing a measure of compassion and understanding for your feelings.
If that's the case then his "measure of compassion and understanding for her feelings" should have moved him to action to put a stop to this travesty IMMEDIATELY since by, by all accounts, he knew full well that they played an "end run around" the mother on this issue. Instead, he let it pass to appease the perpetrators of this dispicable act and spare them the embarrasment.
He took the line of least resistance just as the WT do with their child molesters.
Frankly, I don't buy this brand of compassionate understanding. It's stinks of cowardice to me.
i honestly want your answers to the following questions.
(i am trying to find out what jw's think on these things to determine what my parents may say in response if i ask them any of these)
question #1can individuals read & understand the bible alone, or do they need an organization and its publications to do so?
All that..yet speculating, it seems, is all the WT ever does...
if one day cash would disappear from the stores and banks, and the only way to pay would be with an electronic card, would this bother you?
the government would know everything about your financial situation, and you couldn't hide anything anymore.
everybody would have to pay taxes on every dime they earn.. do you think we are heading for a complete electronic domination over our lives?.
I actually only use "electronic" money now. All my bills are paid automatically by my bank across the internet and most everything else I use a checkcard to buy. I almost never carry cash anymore, that's when I have any left over in the bank to take out.
In fact, I think I only have about $4.00 in my pocket right now......
