Outlaw,
After careful consideration, I have composed a response to you based on the merits of your comments.
i read these threads and there are a few that bend over backwards to say why wts is correct on this issue or that issue.. they act like typical jw's that refuse to acknowledge points that may show that wts is not following the scriptures or that wts goes beyond the scriptures in a way that is not supported by others.. the point could be the blood issue or shunning or whether 1799 or 1914 was the start (or finish?
) of the last days or whether there is a faithful and discreet slave class or not.
i don't want to harp on each point.

ATJ,
Offensive? I've been on this board for about 8 years now. I don't expect to see many more surprises.
Some reasons I have been here:
I believe the powers that be (GB, service, etc.) are wrong when they do not make full disclosure of their errors or when demanding blind obedience. Topics such as blood and child abuse are not dealt with openly.
I have also had some good discussions here with people like Maximus, Marvin Shilmer, Old Soul and Big Tex.
Some people have been seriously hurt for being a JW. I disagree with policy of shooting the wounded. I have tried to reach out to a few people privately. Doing so openly generally stirs up the rabid crowd here.

OTWO,
You asked "Is WTS right to insist that "true Christians" stay away from websites that debate the Bible and WT doctrine? "
My response is my opinion, not a statement about WTS policy. It was actually more of a disagreement with WT writings on this topic. As for judicial action, this is subject to interpretation by your local BOE.
"If direction is not clear, then they should be discreet and not be so confident that their directives are correct."
Agreed.
"Isn't that independent thinking?"
Guilty as charged. I can be independent of both unreasonable JW's and unreasonable ex-JW's.

Outlaw,
You probably don't even realize you just called OnTheWayOut an idiot . . .
LOL!
Now I'll tip you off to something. Shhhhh . . . . we'll just keep this between us. Not all JW's follow all the rules

Is WTS right to insist that "true Christians" stay away from websites that debate the Bible and WT doctrine?
"Insist", no. Suggest, yes.
If they are wrong, isn't it possible that they are not spirit-directed?
Question is framed as an absolute. I do not believe that is true. Is parent always right? No, but perhaps more often than not.
Even if they are wrong, aren't you running ahead of them instead of waiting on Jehovah to reveal new light for you to come to these websites and "save us" or whatever it is you think you are doing here?
Some of us are willing to make our own decisions.
What are you trying to get at?
family night is held once a year at bethel and all the branches.
when i was a missionary, every year both missionary homes in that country were invited to the branch office, and we had a dinner with the bethelites, and family night.
the bethelites did some singing and skits, and each missionary home was invited to submit something.
I went to a couple. I thought they were enjoyable but they were 30 years ago probably on a shorter leash now.
A Gilead graduation I went to featured the grads performing a scene from the Wiz. I believe it was to the music of Ease on Down the Road.
The banality of evil . . .
.
i have it on good authority that at the recent circuit assembly it was announced from the platform that there had been reports of groups of families and friends getting together to study on family worship night and that this was not to continue as fwn is for families only and not for other brothers and sisters to get involved in.. oh, and if you live alone, then you have to study on your own, you alone are your family, you are not to join anyone else's fwn (although i'm sure they didn't mean you couldn't join your blood family's fwn....).
the level of control never ceases to amaze me...... .
Do you know if this was part of the program from HQ or was it in the needs of the circuit part? Just wondering if this is global or local?

we cannot do as you ask, replied one of the family heads.
those people came to teach us the bible.
Or was this article written by someone who disagreed with df policy and intended it to make some people wake up?
A recent KM school told elders (I was one at the time) that people were getting reinstated too fast. Suggested at least a year before reinstatement.
