WHAT DOES THE WORD...."SOON"....MEAN???

the watchtower magazine has used the word "soon" on many an occasion to point out to its readership how near armageddon really is.. a word that can mean anything, in effect, actually means nothing.

consequently, let's examine what "soon" actually means by definition and use.. there can only be three stages of time:.

I'ts the same word as" quickly"...the word Jesus used in Rev. 21 that gave us a hint as to when he'd return. ~~One thousand years....two thousand....will there be a three thousand.....or will he be here 'sooner' than that?~~

You are quite right, Gumquick. Jesus' use of the word "quickly" and the WTS's use of the word "soon" are synonymous. The fact is though that they ARE the proper words for them to have used, when considered in the proper light. Although 2000 years have passed by since Jesus said "I am coming quickly", he will not have lied nor exaggerated. No matter who we are our lives will be over in a short few years (soon), and Jesus will have came. How so? Because time stands still to a deceased person. Yes, the clock essentially stops the moment the person dies. The dead are aware of "nothing at all", remember? That being the case there is essentially no time that has transpired from the moment the person drew his last breath until he has begun to breath again upon being resurrected. Dead one second then back to life the next second, essentially. Of course the person will have come back to life solely as a result of Jesus having returned. So, you see, Jesus is due to return quite "soon" for each and every one of us--because we will die, and the next thing we are COGNIZANT of will be that Jesus had indeed returned.

Get it? I didn't think so!

Schizm, you make a very weak point. Whether or not the words are true, and regardless of how you highlight it, the article sounds offensive and condescending.

Even if it does, it doesn't necessarily mean the author of the article intended it to be that way. Ever write a letter to a friend and then later reflect on it only to have it dawn on you that it could have been better worded? Those who pen the articles for the Society's publications are only human too. The fact of the matter is that far too many parents fail to teach their sons & daughters enough about the birds and the bees, and as a result tragic things happen. If the article managed to save even just a few young unmarried people from having to endure the consequences of being caught up in a moment of passion, with its accompanying heartaches, then what's the big deal? I think you tend to make a mountain out of a mole hill, which is easy enough to do for people who have come to resent their former religious leaders.

I'd far rather focus on things of more serious concern, than trivial matters such as this. To make such a big deal out of a trivial matter as this suggests that your motive is that of a mere faultfinder. People whose primary mission is to find a fault will always be able to find one. Chronic "faultfinders" do not impress me in the least. People who are willing to reason and discuss things in an unbiased fashion are who impress me.

I think it really depends upon what portion of the sentence you choose to highlight is what will determine your understanding of it. Anyone know how to spell "bias"? The real question is: Is it, or is it not, true that under the specified conditions a young woman's sex emotions are greatly aroused?

Does the Rainbow Covenant Disprove the Flood?

the story goes that god provided the rainbow as a symbol of his promise to never again destroy the world by flood.. noah and his family saw the rainbow after they left the ark.

after the waters had receeded.

after it had stopped raining for months.... yet a rainbow is simply sunlight spread out into its spectrum of colors and diverted to the eye of the observer by water droplets.

I on the other hand have spoken to lots of believers with good judgement, unfortunately you aren't one of them 'schizm' (sic)

I've provided good reasons for saying the things I have, if I don't mind saying so myself. All you've done in return is spout sarcasm. You show no intellect whatsoever. Even your biography doesn't make any sense. All it says is, "are you the farmer?". What is people who read that suppose to get out of it? Talk about "nonsense"!

All three go back ONLY as far as the 1970 Awake! magazines, and so I was unable to verify the quote, at least electronically. Do any of you have an earlier version than my 1997 Library. I'm not sure what year the WTS produced the Library on CD. Was 1997 the first? If someone has an earlier version I'd be interested to know if it contains the 1969 Awake! on it. Of course I still have the hard copy of the magazine, which is stored away, but I'd like to know whether or not any of the WTS's Libraries on CD go as far back as 1969.

If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, Jesus foretold: 'This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way towards its finish, if not actually gone! This is why parents who base their lives on God's prophetic Word find it much more practical to direct their young ones into trades that do not require such long periods of additional schooling… True, those who do not understand where we are in the stream of time from God's viewpoint will call this impractical. The diamond wax is a high sheen look that if'n yer sunbathin, the glare off yer nutsack can just about blind people, so I hope you ain't a nudeist kinda guy. Most people go with the chocolate one cuz it smells real good, but I can do the diamond wax. I may hafta charge like 5 bucks or sumthin cuz it's a bit spendier.
