In most of Europe, you are unable to solicit funds in this way. I remember when the the donation arrangement was bought in to ireland, we were specifically told not to mention that donations were accepted until asked by the householder -

only to the person who prepared it - god had as little to do with providing and preparing the food as he does in stepping in to end world hunger, genocide etc...

Foreign language field - the curious Watchtower cutback?
by slimboyfat inmost of the recent watchtower cutbacks can be explained as money saving exercises: closing branches, paperback books, fewer pages in the magazines, sending bethelites home and so on.. but a few different posters have reported that the watchtower society are also cutting back on the foreign field ministry.
for many years foreign language congregations have been a major source of growth for the watchtower in many lands.
so why would they choose to scale it down?.

Well in my home country, there was a big song and dance about the French field (due to Refugee's from French Africa). However the government made a restriction that just because you were born in the country did not make you Irish. The immigration tide came to a halt as soon as they did that.
There were a number of french groups around the place, supported by oddbods from France that moved over. Eventually, the CO's disbanded all by 1 of them in Dublin as the congregations were not growing, but self sustaining (ie more people from France moved over to "help" in the field, but there was no growth).
I was in an english congregation in Spain, and there was a huge amount of growth for a while, so much so we had to split the district assembly up, some of us had to go to Madrid, others to Benidorm. Then when the pound started to lose against the euro, english pensioners "surfing" where the "need was great" started to leave, meaning that some english congregations were disbanded, and others amalgamated into being groups in the hall.
It is all very practical, but i remember the atmosphere being one of shrinking rather than "stream lining"

agree that this could have gone the other way completely. She seems "genuinely" concerned. I could be waaay off but is she a recent convert? I often found that the ones that were that way inclined were the recently converted rather than the born ins, who (in my experience) were far more easy going about those sort of things.

They won't put a donate function in - apple would take a cut...but speaking from a developers perspective, it's a pretty nice app
