Yeah! I knew I had to be tripping! Still it was fun!
in the last few years, there have been a few books on quantum holograms.
a hologram is the little pic on credit cards.
from what i understand, if someone cut up one of those pics, the complete original pic would be on each one of the pieces.

hi undf'd or anyone with a copy of the 9-15-02 wt: i saw undf's comments in another thread (about non-dubs attending book studies), and undf'd mentioned:.
the watchtower society hates the noble beroeans (from acts 17:10-12), so much in fact, that in their september 15th 2002 watchtower, they changed "be like the beroeans" into meaning "do not be like the beroeans"!
... acts 17:11: now these were more noble than those in thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of the mind, examining the scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.. .
Umm... I could be confused, but when I got out the copy to have a look it seems to say "we should still be like the Beroeans."
Page 18 para 12 halfway through says:
"And instead of questioning God's Word, how much wiser it is to have the attitude of the first century Beroeans who examined the scriptures closely! (Acts 17: 10, 11)"
Sorry, I don't have a scanner, but that's it word for word. Maybe someone else can scan it.
Depending of course on your translation of the Bible! I take it we shouldn't question the King James... the Douay... the New English...on and on...
several weeks ago i asked a lot of you here about the involvement with the un.
you were really helpful in your replies.
thank you.. i approached an elder who i know is "up" on that sort of thing and guess what... he had no idea!.
queer reality
:-) Must have been a freudian slip about how the WBTS will be remaining "quiet with the reality" of truth!
So sorry! Who knows, maybe one day I'll learn to read!

This so reminds me of a Children's Book of Science (you know the ones you get, full of cartoons to help kids understand the speed of sound and so forth) that I read years ago that stated if a mirror didn't reflect right to left then you'd see the back of your head. Well, I don't know about reflecting but I couldn't even get my head around the idea let alone the mirror. But now every time I tell someone I read this they look at me rather strangely and start whispering about men in white coats needed.
Does anyone else here know anything about what I read? Or do I really need those little men.

i'm just full of questions and here's another that no one in the hall has ever answered with conviction.. they say that the church steeple is shaped like a phalic symbol (please excuse spelling mistake, mislaid my dictionary!)..
so why then was the temple shaped in a remarkably similar fashion (the picture in the back of the big bible always worried me).
maybe, just maybe, the church is shaped after the original temple and not .... what they say it is.
Thnaks for making me grin!
When you see things like this is really does highlight the rediculousness of it all. I always did snort with laughter when that was mentioned from the platform. Maybe I won't try to keep my laughter subdued any more.

Hi KAYTEE
I'm sorry about that for you. I find it hard to understand how they can just ignore the very real feelings of other people on this matter. Maybe they will respond directly...
Quiet Reality,
Thanks for adding that, I'll use it in my letter... pre-empt them just a little eh?

Does anyone know?
Or am I being incredibly picky?

Well thanks guys, for once again for being a whole lot quicker to talk to me than certain people!
Harold, thanks for your thread, I was sent there awhile back by different ones on this site and I found it helpful then, but this time I had loads more time to be able to browse in peace (I can only get online when my little girl is asleep) and some of your links are excellently helpfull... thanks a million.
I'm surprised (but by now I shouldn't be) how many people have written to them and recieved the standard reply. I would think that with this much expossure they'd have printed something in the magazines by now (Someone on a different thread referred to this sort of thing as "Damage control") I'm so surprised that they aren't doing some quick stepping to get out of it.
If this particular elder isn't there tonight I'm going to go ahead and write the letter by myself. Another point I'm going to raise seperatly is the scripture in 1 Pet 3v 15 (the footnote in the "Big Bible") I haven't found anyone who can answer it and all that happens is they shrug their shoulders and convieniently forget I asked them!
Deddaisy, your explanation cracked me up! I'm still grinning now, but how true, how true!
KAYTEE: I take it you haven't had a reply, or was the reply the standard one?
Has anyone here re-written them if they've recieved the standard reply? If so, what kind of come back did you get from them? I would love to know as it would help me write this letter.
I can't thank everyone here enough, if it hadn't been for all your hard work I would probably accepted the "library card" excuse and carried on as I was. At least this way I hope to preempt that excuse in the letter I'm going to write to them. ie... you don't need a pass to use their library so why did you... etc, etc (or words to that effect!)
Thanks again and hopefully I'll be posting their reply soon... :-) I can dream anyway!
does anyone remember the advice from from the stage, encouraging mothers to remove babies from the room when they were hungry?.
how about, wooden spoons to beat toddlers into submission, preferably in front of the congegation, as to set an example in disipline?
was this just in our hall, or was it from the borg?
I've had a hard time reading this thread.
A lot of your replies have brought tears to my eyes.
I can't believe that people can be so cruel and to children. It's obviously a problem in society that goes a lot deeper than religon and unfortunalty it's not confinned to religous groups. But it has to be stamped out wherever it is.
I have to say that I grew up with witness parents during the 70's and I was never beaten. I only ever remember being spanked once by my father and that was when I tried to "help myself" to some tablets at about six years of age and I think it was shock and fear that made him respond like that because he cuddled me all afternoon after that and kept asking if I'd swallowed any (which I hadn't as he'd caught me before I'd even got the top off, thankfully). He had never hit before that and he never hit me again. My mother only hit me once and I think it surprised and hurt her more than me.( I was about fourteen and THE most aggreviating teenager to walk the earth, I actually think she should have been sainted for not belting me more often. They say the patience of an angel resides in some. She IS an angel.)
I can't remember any of the children in our hall being abused in this way at the meetings.
If anything looking through this thread it makes me apprciate my particular childhood even more. My parents loved me and for that I will always be truly thankfull.
I still attend the meetings and I now have a two and a half year old that doesn't know how to sit still for six seconds let alone two hours. She also doesn't know the difference in talking and shouting. I love it!
Most of them are acutally very supportive of us and will come up and say "You're doing so well. Perserve and she'll get there". I do not and never will hit her for talking (It's a double standard isn't it? We incourage her to talk and then tell her to shut up at the meetings! No wonder she looks confused!)
But there are the ones who send "Why don't you keep that child QUIET!" looks. So I stick my nose up at them and pat my little girl on the head and give her a kiss.
Minimus: Thanks for giving me something to smile about. Your reply about losing Jehovah's Holy Spirit was inspired!

I approached an Elder who I know is "up" on that sort of thing and guess what... he had no idea!
His son works in Bethel so he took what info I had found : The original article in the guardian, (which can be found on their archive site) an email I recieved from the DPI confirming that the WBTS was a member for ten years, and also a print of the FAQ's about the DPI and it's involvement with the UN which quite plainly states that anyone associated with the DPI has to follow the UN charter and also promote the UN and it's work.
I waited.... and waited... and finally last week he came back to me and said that no one in Bethel that his son had asked knew anything about the information that came directly from the FAQ's. However he has said that if I bring more copies to him he'll sit down with me and we'll write a letter to Bethel including all the information and see what comes back. This particular Elder is a genuine man and I trust him. He even admitted that it certainly looks like they've been caught with their trousers down.
He started, at first, to say how the Un has many offshots (ie. UNESCO, WHO etc) but he must have seen my face because he admitted that evenso it all "comes under the UN umbrella still".
Well, it seems as if it still goes on... I'm just so interested to hear their reply... I know a lot of you have already written... spoke to them... but I wanted to see what the'ir reply would be to someone who is still attending meetings. (It was interesting when I phoned Bethel that I was asked if I'm a Sister. I said I was, but I wonder what reply I would have got if I'd said no... hum... might try that if I get time.)
I'm going to do all this Thursday, but having said that the particular elder I choose is rather hit and miss at attending meetings because his mother-in-law is very ill at the moment. Anyway, it should be interesting to see how long they take to reply and what they say in reply.
If anyone is interested I'll post their reply here.
