An old sailor phrase "Any port in a storm will do"
any port in a storm
phrase of port1.
proverb
in adverse circumstances one welcomes any source of relief or escape.
and why doesn't it bother anyone when they do?.
for instance they quote a bit from the matthew henry commentary on the whole bible.
they will use it to prove their point on something.

this is a question for those who officially left the organisation and are married; and your spouse and kids are still in.'.
i just wanted to find out what your experience has been when you dissacociated.the following questions go through my mind all the time.
it always comes back to the what if's!.
To me, DA'ing is somewhat like willfully refusing to pay your federal taxes. Sure, we all hate paying taxes and the federal government is mostly wrong, and very hypocritical but they have power and can throw you in jail if you don't pay. In jail, you don't get to be with your friends and loved ones. You become a felon and hardly anyone talks to you any more except fellow inmates. But you did make a statement.
On the other hand, a gradual fade is somewhat like most of us do when it comes to paying taxes. Cheat on our tax return, work for cash 'under the table', claim questionable deductions, and basically commit fraud. We do everything to avoid paying taxes but we don't usually go to jail (unless we get caught) lol.
Maybe that's just to simple and illustration but it works for me and I spent several years deciding which way to go. Possibly I took the 'easy' route but we all have a choice and I like the freedom to undermine the wtbts and their bs every chance I get even to my former fellow elders and long time witness friends.

for some reason i found myself shaking my head once again in disbelief at the story in genesis.. amongst all things, the very concept of a "flaming sword" spinning around and blocking the "entrance to the garden of eden" is so stupid!.
do people really believe that as a fact?.
seriously, swords were not even invented at that time!
The Gatling gun is one of the best-known early rapid-fire spring loaded, hand cranked weapons and a forerunner of the modern machine gun
Long before Mr Gatling invented the the first "rapid fire" gun, jehober invented the "rapid spinning" sword. That's proof of god's superiority over man!

tell me me more about your just & loving god..
Let us not forget brothers! Jehober considered Lot as a 'righteous' man. Who are we mere mortals that we should judge Lot in a negative way? Oh my, heaven forbid!
just saying!
same theme scripture as last week deut 32.
3/4 "a god... who is never unjust".
do i share that spirit ?
So jehober allows, good men, Naboth and his sons to be slaughtered by the wicked but he forgives the wicked? wtf! Oh, I forgot, Naboth and his sons will be resurrected a couple of thousand years after being killed! Wow what justice!

i appreciate 10 commandments because they try to ensure law and order in the society.
however, i have problem with introductory statements that say: “you shall have no other gods before[a] me… you shall not bow down to them or worship them; for i, the lord your god, am a jealous god, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.” (exodus 20:3-6).
1) this contradicts the characteristics of god described in mathew 5:44-48 where love is described as loving everyone without thinking whether others reciprocate or not.
Just like the 2 tablets that they were supposedly written on, the 10 commandments reflect 'stone age' thinking.

what did you imagine jehovah to look like?
i always pictured him like this:.
.
watchtower october 2017, par 11, page 28 - "very soon the political powers of satan’s world will form a coalition that is bent on the destruction of god’s people.
's] have anything to fear?
not at all!........at that critical moment during the great tribulation, the angelic soldiers of jehovah of armies will come together to protect god’s people..."[j.w.
I'm 71 and started going to meetings when I was 4. Armageddon was "just around the corner" then. The wtbts has it's own silly definition of the word Soooooooooooooon!

did any of you attend the old school week long conventions?
i have heard stories and it seems like these were mostly in the 70's and 80's before my time.
i couldn't imagine.
My first 8 dayer was 1958 (I was 12 yo) in New York. Mom took a day off from convention and took us California boys sightseeing in the Big Apple. Convention was held at 2 outdoor venues, Yankee Stadium and the Polo Grounds. 250,000 attended 7,000 baptized. I mostly remember being hot, sweaty, and crowded.
Another 7 or 8 dayer was held in 1963 at the famous Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasedena, southern California. Very hot stadium with no shade cover at all. 108,000 attended. I was 17 and mostly chasing the girls at that convention. It was grueling but I mostly remember meeting a lot of pretty girls, i.e. sisters, from all over the country. Since I was now a 'responsible' young man, I didn't need to sit with my mom and younger brothers. Good memories and I don't remember one thing that was said from the program.
Last 7 or 8 dayer I recall was in Los Angeles, California at Dodger Stadium in 1969. Hot, boring, and I was a married man so I didn't have the fun of chasing the girls at that convention. I worked in security at night after the convention ended and didn't get home till 2:30 am so I mostly slept during the day sessions at the convention. lol

i realize that prayer is a really personal thing, but representing a group in prayer has become so full of cliche's that i just want to vomit sometimes.
co week almost every prayer has the phrase "special week of activity" in it.. then there's "please look after the sick and afflicted.".
not so much anymore, "please bless this food and the hands that prepared it.".
"please bless the governing body"
"please forgive us for our sins and imperfection"
"we leave this meeting in your care and direction"
