Troll dolls! I loved them as a kid, then my mother got involved with the witlesses...I had to throw them out. Stayed afraid of them throughout my 30's...Finally at 50, I now see the "light"...pun intended.

how would you define the word apostate, now that you aren't in sync with the watchtower anymore?

At 50 years of age. I am attending school to obtain my BS in Business Management. The borg kept me out in the 70's as did my borg mother. I'm a little old to be doing this, but it's paying off in my career because right after obtaining my AA, I received a promotion.
Moral of the story, you're never too old to pursue your dreams as long as you don't let others tell you what to do.

I personally like the Unity Churches. I got more positive upbeat and sensible use of the Bible from that group than many others. On a side note, they do delve into the metaphysical side of things which in my opinion gives it an interesting twist. http://www.unity.org

If there's some good in the Watchtower, why leave it?
by AlmostAtheist inthe post about crisis of conscience in which the poster said he knows there's some bad in the watchtower (as brought out in coc), but there's some good in it too got me to wondering about people that stay for the good in it.. the united states makes some decisions as a country that i don't agree with, perhaps even object strongly to.
but i don't disavow my citizenship.
it's mostly a good place to live, so i stay.. if you want to live in a way that utterly conflicts with the watchtower -- homosexual, multiple sex partners, smoking, whatever -- then you have reason to leave.

I left when I still thought it was the "truth". Why? Because of the high control. I just couldn't take being told what I could and could not watch on tv, read, or listen to, who I could have as friends and what I should constantly be doing. I lived such a life that I was guilt-ridden, a nervous wreck and when I had my son, I just walked away. Thank God.
I have since, thanks to all of you and the information provided in this forum found freedom of thought and a sense of well-being knowing that I made the right decision.

ARE JW SISTERS ALLOWED TO CARRY COFFINS?
by steve2 inrecently i was amazed to read in another thread that jw females are not even allowed to walk up and down the aisles counting those in attendance.
the poster said jw women literally "don't count" - a brilliant play on words.
i guess i had never thought about it before, but it got me wondering about all the behind-the-scene work jw females do, but their invisibility in the public arena.

"No one else will be allowed to take the stage(relative or not) to say a few words or eulogize the person." (Poztate) Actually, my grandmother's nephew, not a witness, was afforded an opportunity to provide a eulogy which was comforting to us grandchildren and non jw family before the main speaker, a half dead elder who couldn't enunciate half of his words took the podium at the funeral home to deliver the dog and pony show. I think this was at the insistence of two non-jw children who had been through the poppycock with the death of my grandfather and refused to go through it again. Her nephew (my cousin) did well and you could hear the collective gasps when he mentioned how she was now with her lord...No witless bothered to thank him or comment on his efforts, not even the half dead grandmaster, however, I made sure to thank him for at least being one person to recognize the fact that she had a long, fruitful life full of joy and laughter despite JW assimulation techniques. She was not cremated, the casket was open and each of her grandsons, witlesses and not were pallbearers.

Birthday Party - Birthday Cake
by POs Son inwell, this weekend, we had a nice little birthday party for our one-year-old daughter.
my folks, both dubs, were not invited despite living only ten minutes away.
i still respect their beliefs, so did not even bother inviting them.

For a group so concerned about appearances that they would disfellowship one for merely appearing to behave inappropriately (fornication, apostacy, etc.), it certainly seems hypocriticalto allow one to participate in every aspect of the pagan festivity as long as the timing is right and it meets with their own "bible trained conscience". Oh wait...what was I thinking... hypocritical = witnesses.

I forgot to tell you that everyone brought her a present too. It WAS a birthday party and the witlesses were just fine with it as long as we didn't "call" it what it was. The balloons were like 90 little satan's floating in the door. I wish I had taken a picture of the facial expressions. ;-) They certainly do walk a fine line between their beliefs and actions, don't they?

On My JW grandmother's 90th birthday, all of her remaining children and grandchildren (Most of whom are JW's) had a "Celebration of Love" for her. Everything was fine - food, dancing, honoring grandmother until one of the non-jw daughter's friend showed up and had 90 balloons delivered each of which wished her a happy birthday! I laughed so hard I almost choked.
