Strike 1: They use the word "proved" in regard to science as if "all the works of creation" somehow "prove" religion. I don't theenk so...

His religion is one of right belief and is harmonious in all its expressions, just as true physical science is harmonious and not self-contradictory. [italics mine]

Strike 2: I don't think I know of any other discipline or group that disagree more than scientists! All in the spirit of proving and re-proving for certainty's sake, but those guys are always looking for a chance to poke holes in a theory or an idea. Even if it's their own! That's how they keep the bar set as high as possible. Look what happens when they don't -- the drug recalls due to shoddy and/or incomplete research.

Nope, all-in-all this was a fairly poor example.

Adam & Eve were ...... ALIENS!!

i was spending my big new year's eve watching a twilight zone marathon last night on the sci-fi channel and one of the episodes was especially interesting.

it starts with an astronaut crashing on a (seemingly) deserted planet.

he gets in radio contact with his home base and is informed that they are about to have a global nuclear war and can't come to save him.

I was spending my big New Year's Eve watching a Twilight Zone marathon last night on the Sci-Fi channel and one of the episodes was especially interesting. It starts with an astronaut crashing on a (seemingly) deserted planet. He gets in radio contact with his home base and is informed that they are about to have a global nuclear war and can't come to save him. Bummer.

OK, so he goes outside (amazing the atmosphere was conveniently all right for human life) and looks for signs of life. Looks like a forest. He finally finds a woman (she looked more like a homeless person) and he starts all the stereotypical "My name Cook. Cook." while pointing to himself and "Eat. Eat" while making eating motions. The chick ain't buying it and runs away.

Allright, now space boy gets notice that global thermonuclear war has broken out and his planet is destroyed. Bigger bummer. He gathers some stuff and goes outside to get back to checking out his new home for life. Hey, there's the homeless chick again! Let's try some more child talk and gestures!

This time space homeless babe is more approachable and she repeats his words and gestures like every movie ever made where an English-speaking person is trying to get chummy with the natives. Chalk one up for space dude. They are really conversing now! "My name is Cook -- Adam Cook" and the homeless chick points to herself and says something like "Arnuba. Eve Arnuba". (Are you getting ahead of me now? ) And Cook (Adam) picks up a handful of dirt and looks questioningly at his new squeeze. "Eart" she says. Eureka!

OK, so Adam and Eve walk off hand in hand to live forever in their new home Eart(h). Right in front of them is an apple tree and Space-Eve offers Space-Adam an apple! He eats it. Cue Rod Serling and his closing comments.

A somewhat smarmy yett entertaining episode but what a bunch of doors it opens! Just think of the possibilities ....

"seven times" in Daniel applied to whom?

this is something of intrest to all.so far many have learned that the "seven times" in dan 4:25 had seemed to apply that the 2520 yrs from the date 607bc took us to the date 1914. seeing now that conclusive evidence that the 607bc date is wrong and the date 587 or 586bc is the correct date, this puts the calulations out of wack.

so who did the "seven times"apply to?

well, if the whole chapter 4 and verses 20+21 of chapter 5 is read, we can see that the "seven times" only applied to nebuchadnezzar himself- and no one else.

Uh, I don't think so. Number one, the evil, hedonistic French Quarter was one of the least damaged areas. The great Tsunami, like the hurricanes it preceeded, were weather events. We have them all the time. Different intensities but all the time, nonetheless. This is lame and makes me yawn. In fact, I live right outside New Orleans and was high and dry. And that's more than some of the Kingdom Halls around here can say. Maybe the JW's might re-assess their status...

In order to have complete sovereignty, ONE has to have dominion over ALL. This only occurrs when JAH proves that HE exists and removes all other leaders.......

I think that would make most people's day. It's like "put up or shut up." Let him come back and prove that he exists in some way other than a rust-stain on some poor Mexican's water heater. C'mon, let's see some proof. Just a small thing that is truly verifiable and not just someone's interpretation. That would have impact.

So far, his record is a big, fat 0. What will it be and when can we expect it? We're all waiting...

Hula-False Worship

when i was at bethel i had a co-worker who was from hawaii and we got into an argument once because i thought hula was false worship and he argued it was part of his culture.

i know i know.. i was mr. sr 15+ yrs ago.

anyway what do you think of this awake article, try to think like a jw while you read and note the highlighted areas.

Christians should be very selective in dancing or in viewing certain hulas. They need to be sure that they are not unknowingly paying homage to a god or a goddess.

Now wait just a minute. If you unknowingly do something, wouldn't that kinda cancel out any importance of what you are doing? If you go to Hawaii (or wherever) and at some point do a hula dance, yet you are not doing it as worship -- how could it still be a worship?

This is so excruciatingly petty!

let me tell you about my day today..i went to my friends bodyshop to do a tune up on a 98 z28.

we were talking, and he taught me something really cool!

By the way does anyone what 100 mg of Seroquel is?

I am not sure of the dosage, but Seroquel is one powerful med! I have a JW friend (my reason for visiting this board) that had a seizure last year (2004) and was hospitalized. She was very psychotic, hallucinating, talking to non-existent people, talking on the phone (that wasn't there...) and such. It was freaky and really scary. She has Multiple Sclerosis and no one at the hospital ever said whether this was a symptom of her MS or what but all the tests (MRI, EEG, EKG, CAT scan, etc.) showed nothing!

They prescribed Seroquel. It reduced her hallucinatiuons and psychotic episodes quite a bit. I (we) thought she was OK. She was very sleepy from the med and her left arm kept jumping but she was 100% better than 2 days eariler. They sent her home.

At home she was subdued and more-or-less lucid. She was still sleeping a lot. I watched her sleep for 45 minutes one evening without realizing she had just "dropped off" with company in the room. But the arm / shoulder jerking was a matter of concern. It would jump -- not painful or anything -- just jerky for a couple of minutes at a time. She couldn't control it.

About 4 days after returning from the hospital, the left arm started jerking but this time it didn't stop after a long while. 45 minutes into this event her father called 911 and had her -- still jerking uncontollably -- taken back to the hospital. They gave her an injection of Ativan for the jerking and stopped the Seroquel.

She hasn't jerked since but her left arm has never moved on its own again, either. She has a useless left arm, but what caused it? The Seroquel (my guess) or the Ativan? In any case I don't think I'd ever allow myself to be prescribed Seroquel. It is just too pwerful an anti-psychotic medication.

I think a re-write, a sequel or a whole series (dependent on your time) would be wonderfully entertaining. Your original is excellent. It truly is on a par with something like the older, black & white (the good ones...) Twilight Zone episodes.

I can just hear Rod Serling now: "Imagine, if you will, a couple of folks -- they could be your neighbors -- going down a dark tunnel of fear and deceit as they try to get away from a life-stealing dark force. This is something you will only find in .... the Twilight Zone." [cue Twlight Zone music]

Intersting, well written story. I found it chilling and I am not even a JW. My only comment, and I hate to do this and sound nit-picking, is that it is "duct" and not "duck" tape. A very good read ... but not for late at night! I also like the "Twilight Zone" episode idea.
