how to the 144,000 get to heaven?

i have asked this to witnesses and they say it's their spirit, which is their life forces that goes up to heaven... that makes no sense to me.

because isn't the spirit, in effect, taking on the properties we normally consider the soul as having?

so what's the difference what you call it?

Isn't there something, somewhere that states that if you are annointed that you can drink poison and not be killed/affected by it? Or maybe that was something to do with prophets? In any case, I'd be careful where you push your "annointed" status.

I've mentioned this same thing (that I was annointed -- and not even a JW!!!) to the lucky ones that show up on my doorstep. Never got much of a response.

1. as mentioned in the other thread, there were times that cos and elders would tell us to not identify ourlselves as jws.

tell them we are "students of the bible" or "concerned neighbors", etc.

I have had more than one argument with my honey about the "No Solicitors" signs. I say they include Jehovah's Witnesses, he says they do not.

A friend of mine made a sign (or found it on the internet) that was a purple background (irony or cruel co-incidence?) with "JEHOVAH'S WITNESS PROTECTION PROGRAM" around an official-looking seal. It was pretty funny.

And why, oh, why is jesus the only person in the illustration without a beard? Beards were and still are a major feature of the middle-eastern cultures. Everybody had 'em. Some religions forbade the cutting of the hair and/or beard.

I really don't think jeebus woulda been the only guy in town without his beard.

The New Brochure - What are they thinking?

As kind of an aside and because I obviously have no life, I re-scanned the "Keep on the Watch" publication that Elsewhere posted. It is 32 pages in length, including the front cover, back cover, contents page and a bunch of pictures.

In the remaining text pages, the words "near," "soon," "last days," and all similar words were used specifically over 16+ times. And that's not taking into account other words and phrases meant to imply the "end of the old system" or "last days" is near, soon or whatever. There is a reference on every page and more than once on a few pages. Man, talk about repetitive!

Just thought someone might want to know this vital statistic.

Books left out of the bible

i saw this show on the history channel last night about books left out of the bible canon - things like the book of enoch, gospel of mary, apocalypse of peter and such.

i was wondering if there is a book out there where all of these are published together in one volume, does anyone know?

Try "Lost Scriptures -- Books That Did Not Make It Into the New Testament" by Bart D. Ehrman. He is a bible scholar and this seems a pretty comprehensive listing of the books that didn't make the "final cut" of the bible as we know it today.

Resurrection of husbands, wives.

at the district convention.......we had a very touching experience of an elder who lost his wife fairly recently.

his comments gave the distinct impression he was going to be reunited with her in the new system............"jehovah is opening his hand and satisfying the desires of every living soul".......is the scripture he focused on.. that's certainly understandable.......i'm sure any of us in the same situation would feel similiarly.......but.......there was certainly no mention of the fact that those resurrected would be "as angels in heaven"(matt.

22: 30), and would no longer be given in marriage.. this is a topic i think the society is steering clear of........you have to go back quite a few years to see it commented on in detail.

Matthew 22:29-30 (new world translation):

"In reply Jesus said to them: 'You are mistaken, because you know neither the scriptures nor the power of God; for in the resurrection neither do men marry nor are women given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven.'"

But didn't some angels mate with earthly women and spawn giants -- the Nephilim and Rephaim -- like Goliath? (1Sa 17:4, Gen 6:4 see also Num 13:33). If being like the angels in heaven is supposed to convey the idea that people won't be or need to be married, how is the fact that angels came to earth to mate with human women? Didn't they marry or were they commiting "porinea"? Sounds like a crock and a contradiction to me...

And I seem to remember during some reasearch I did on this topic a while ago that married people who survive the "BIG A" would stay married according to the WTS. If you didn't live thru the actual "end of times" then you wouldn't be married or eligible to get married. You'd be screwed, matrimonialy speaking. I'm not a JW but I think I'm getting the hang of this stuff! (Is that a good thing?)

Wait a minute! On page 15 of the publication at the site Elsewhere posted, it says something about "At great cost to himself, jehovah made provisions for those who would believe in the ranson sacrifice (or something to that end)..." He let his son be killed, he didn't suffer directly.

Yeah, it was a bummer but he knew that in 3 days it would be over and jeebus would be back from the dead. Where is this "great cost to himself"? This sounds suspiciously like trying to make jehovah seem the victim. Could it be this shallow?

Counting Time Question

i am a non-jw and have a jw girlfriend (strange as this situation can be).

since the end of 2002 she has essentially been confined to her house and mostly to her bed due to illness.

she has attended 2 memorials and maybe 2-3 meetings in the last 2 years but nothing further.

1) She can count all the time she wants and call it informal or phone witnesseing. No one will double check.
2) If she's baptized, no one is supposed to be counting time on her. But it hardly matters. No one will double check. God will still hand out the Merit Bonus at the end of this Pay Period.

Wow, so it looks like anything goes. How can something that seems to have such importance and be stressed so much be addressed so off-handedly? If counting time is so important why isn't it handled a bit more effectively?
