On the national news yesterday on TV, it had a story on Mormons. It said that Mormon is the most rapidly growing religion in the US. It showed some bicycle riders and a few friendly faces but didn't really get in-depth.
I found the growth rate interesting. I guess people like a mystery!

More of Mormon similarities...
by ringo5 ingot this post from an ex-mormon website and the similarities to the jw way of thinking are always enlightening.
i've got lots of thoughts.
there are lots of problems with mormonism, and in response mormons have developed a number of responses to "explain" them.

Another Memorial Post -- with question
by robhic ini have a friend (jw) who has severe multiple sclerosis so bad that she is essentially confined to a bed.
now, she has one of those electric "chrstopher reeves-looking" wheelchairs but requires someone (usually her sons or brother -- not jw) to physically pick her up and put her in it.. she hasn't been to a memorial in a couple of years, since her condition got so bad.
she told me the other night that some of the congregation are gonna bring her to the one this wednesday the 12th.

I told her why didn't jehovah just swoop down and move her wheelchair for her on his way to the memorial but she got pissed and hung up on me. Imagine that !
I hate to tell you this, but you really had it coming.
Oh, I agree completely. In fact, I expected no less. Let's just say it was my snide little way of firing a quick volley back at a source that is always hitting me over the head with jehovah's righteous indignation. I get it all the time and hear all the wonders of jehovah (and especially his appointees in her local congregation). They can do no wrong! I guess that's pretty easy because they generally don't do anything at all so doing wrong doesn't get done ... just like doing right. Yep, they're not selective in their ineffectiveness. That's why I really want to see them go to the lengths that will be required to tote this poor woman to the hall. They've never done it before. Offered, but never actually done it...

Wow, I read the book, too, and was going to suggest a cocktail or two as a good ingredient when approaching that particular work.
But then Leo went and got all scholarly and my comment just seems insipid now...

She hasn't been to a memorial in a couple of years, since her condition got so bad. She told me the other night that some of the congregation are gonna bring her to the one this Wednesday the 12th. I said "yeah, right" because they've been not too reliable, shall we say, when making promises of any type, even simple things, in the past. This would be the most difficult one yet, so we'll see.
She said they were going to get her a bed or reclinable surface for use. I asked why they weren't going to take her wheelchair and she said because it is too heavy. She has a regular chair, too, they could use but she said they were going to get the bed thing. I can't believe they couldn't get a couple of men using a pickup truck to do it. It only weighs about 200 lbs. And the regular chair is about 30 lbs. It makes no sense in either case.
But my main question is about transferring her to and from the chair, bed and vehicle. How are male JWs going to be able to touch the body of a single JW female to move her? Isn't there some prohibition about something like this? I mean, they're not supposed to even be in a car together, how could actual touching and picking up and carrying her be OK? Her sons or brother won't be going. Again, we'll see.
I told her why didn't jehovah just swoop down and move her wheelchair for her on his way to the memorial but she got pissed and hung up on me. Imagine that!

Exodus Chapter 12
37 The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Succoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. 38 Many other people went up with them, as well as large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds.Wasn't it shown somewhere that at the date of the exodus there was nowhere near six hundred thousand men, with or without women and children to start off with? There weren't that many Jews in the entire world in that time. Jeez, talk about exaggerating!

Call The Next JW A Locust From the Abyss
by moomanchu inthat's what they call themselves rev.ch.9 climax book pg.144.
rev.9;4 they were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or tree but only those people who did not have the seal of god on their foreheads.
why would the locusts need to be told not to harm themselves?

On May 1, 1998, Watchtower published an article entitled 'Jehovah’s Day Approaches' and there it said, simply and clearly: Both in Joel 1:6 and Revelation 9:7 locusts symbolize God’s people and from the article anyone could conclude that these God’s people were Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Imagine a great horde of locusts! For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth (fangs) of a great lion …. (Joel 1:6-8) Is this applicable only to people - locusts, invading ancient Judea? No, this prophecy has a lot more meaning. Both in Joel 1:6 and Revelation 9:7 locusts symbolize the people of God. In the context of today the horde of locusts is nothing other than the army of anointed Jehovah’s locusts, nowadays joined by about 5 to 600,000 other sheep of Jesus (John 10:16). Shouldn’t we be joyous belonging to this enormous assembly of Jehovah’s faithful?… God’s army of locusts serves witness to the city known as the Christian world (Joel 2:9). Rev 9:11 They have over them as king the angel of the abyss: his name in Hebrew is Abaddon, in the Greek tongue he hath the name ApollyonHere is something I had saved from a while back (above). It does spell it out pretty clearly that 1) the locusts symbolize the people of god (JWs) and 2) that their king or leader is named Abaddon or Apolloyon which is Satan!
They sure fell down in the proofing of this one!

Just wondering what you think
by beaches ini am on my journey of discovery, and have lots of ideas going through my head abou the bible.
i am just wondering what different people on this board have come to the conclusion or what stage of thinking are they at about what role the bible plays in our lives.. my random floating thoughts and ideas:.
1) is inspired and gods message to us, but nt cancels all "laws" and we are just to follow jesus and god and be true christians not part of any religion.. 2) bible is book of stories that people way-back-when wrote in order to pass down verbalized morals and illustrations in ot.

I agree completely and feel you've hit the nail on the head with #4. The bible is a book written by superstitious goat / camel herders to make themselves feel better and explain (to some extent) the unexplainable. Look at the catholic church's treatment of Galileo's theory that the earth did the rotating and not the sun. And how many people perished as a result of other mis-information and beliefs of the bible?
It was a pep-talk to make an obscure little tribe feel better about themselves than they were in reality. All the victories and miracles and special handling they attributed to their god because they, alone, were special -- the chosen people. Yeah right.
Read all you can and keep an open mind. Apply logic and the work will mostly be done for you. Good luck in your journey.

JEHOVAH'S WITNESS VIEW ON MUSLIMS: WHAT IS IT?
by Terry inthe new pope is beginning to speak out against radical muslim extremists from his (papal) bully pulpit.
that is a good thing.
since the muslims themselves are strangely mute on those who besmirch their religion by spilling innocent blood it behooves .
-

...Bear in mind that Muslim beliefs are firmly entrenched and that most of them have been learned by rote. Thus, reasoning on religious teachings and proving to themselves what God’s will is has not been a part of their spiritual development.
How do they write this stuff? It must take some strong concentration to keep from falling down laughing on the floor in a hypocrisy-induced fit of howling laughter!!!
Muslim beliefs are mostly "learned by rote." Is this supposed to be a negative thing or a congratulatory thing?
I'd say its a stupid thing -- in a ironic way...
