I'm not going to debate and I don't feel the need to prove anything. I agree that works are what would come naturally when one accepts Jesus but works are certainly not required because, if works were all it took then Jesus' death would be worthless. To say that faith in Jesus' death for our sins is NOT ENOUGH TO SAVE YOU is rediculous! That would be nullifying his death. To say that there is something that you can do that will EARN you your salvation is to say that Jesus died for nothing. Because if we could EARN our salvation why do we need Jesus? You would be placing more value on your works than on Jesus' death. Do you want to be so lofty as to say that your works are more valuable than Jesus' sacrifice? Either his death saves you or it doesn't. But you are free to believe the WTS nonsense as much as you would like. I'm not debating this anymore. Enjoy the meetings.

Jesus and the two criminals dying beside him.....
by sandy ini have been watching a couple of the movies retelling the life of christ and i was wondering about the words jesus said to the criminal who asked him to remember him.. the king james version reads: and jesus said unto him, "verily i say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise" luke 23:43. the new world translation reads: and he said to him "truly i tell you today, you will be with me in paradise.
" luke 23:43. the movie i was watching quoted or at least was closer to the king james version.
maybe i am wrong but the same scriptures seem to imply two different things.

So, since salvation is based on works, and without works faith would not be enough to be saved....then what's the deal with the theif on the cross next to Jesus? What good works did he perform? Or was it simply that he expressed faith and that's all it took to save him?

I think I will have to disagree with Joseph as well. The NT is very clear that there is NOTHING that a person can do to earn salvation. Salvation is given to anyone who will accept Jesus as their savior and accept him into their hearts. While it is good to live a very good life this will NOT earn salvation. The scriptures point out clearly that there is no WORK that we can do to earn salvation, that includes doing ANYTHING that people think will get them into heaven. It is a gift given freely by the Lord and NOTHING can earn it. Paul says that, other than faith in Jesus for salvation, if anyone adds anything else you are accursed of God. Gal 1:8,9. It is also said that the only works a man could do to earn his salvation would be to live life according to the Mosaic Law and never sin once while doing it. That would be the ONLY way to earn salvation. Since that is impossible for us to do Jesus did it for us and bought our sin from us. All we have to do is to accept him and have faith. Anything else that anyone wants to add to this is accursed. If anyone says that not only do you have to have BUT you have to do.....whatever....is accursed from God.

Typical conflicted behavior from a typical Witness
by crinklestein ini used to be a member of the shelburne falls ma congregation and i'm not afraid of anyone from there finding out about what i write.
i used to be friends with a guy we shall call den.
we were friends for 10 years and through that 10 years he would bounce back and forth between wanting to be ultra religious and being worldly.

While I will admit that I too am a smartass I know better than to jump into other people's threads and, for no reason, start acting like one. As far as proving yourself, well you've proven to me what you are.

Saying they are "God's visible organization" and then saying that organization isn't perfect...is this not, in effect, saying that God's entire organization is imperfect? That God is not perfect?! Come one guys....dig that hole deeper...

They admit to adjusting their beliefs with one breath and with the other they condemn religions because of teaching false doctrines. Well, if what was once thought to be true ended up being false and that led to a doctrine being "adjusted" in order to be corrected...is this not admitting that they WERE teaching false doctrines?

This is the one and only thing that hit me like a ton of bricks when I was starting to question things. This proves to me that there are no works that could be done to earn your salvation. Why waste away your life proving what a good little witness you are when a theif can gain entrance to the kingdom of God instantly before he dies by simply professing his faith in Jesus? What works did the theif do? NONE. How did he get forgiven? By asking Jesus and showing acceptance of him as his savior. BANG! THATS IT!

20,000 Die While "GOD" Watches as he sips Iced Tea
by JT intoday i had an interesting conversation, not with a christian believer but a muslim believer, .
he was trying to recruit me into the faith--so i thought i would pose the question to him about why his god watches as 20,000 believers (muslims) women, children, etc lost thier lives-.
his explanation i thought was straight out of a christian handbook on.

When the fellow JW's would say "Jehovah has blessed you" or "Jehovah must've been watching over you and protecting you" was one of the glaring contradictiongs I questioned when I started....well questioning things. They would always say that Jehovah was making things good for them and watching over them but at the same time they would say that God allows all bad things to happen to prove Satan wrong and that all bad things come from Satan. So if all bad things come from Satan and God allows all bad things to happen then what makes them think that God is going to forgo thousands of years of inaction because of you? That's why I don't think it's good to thank God when you avoid something bad (like you almost died or something) when God has nothing to do with it all. If God would've allowed it to happen to prove Satan right then God would not have stopped it so it would not be correct to thank Him for it.
When I lost my job I didn't ask God for a new one because #1 there are more important things going on in this world than my employment issues and #2 if he's allowing millions to die horrible deaths on the other side of the world I don't think me being unemployed is going to stand out as a problem he needs to solve. Asking for strength to handle a problem is OK but not asking Him to SOLVE your problem by divine intervention. It just never made sense to me.

"Having Too Much Knowledge Is Not A Good Thing"
by minimus inso said my mother about my research of the bible and the society's publications.
i read "too much", especially because it's information that imperfect men thought was correct that came from jehovah, "but they were wrong.

"Much like the elder who told a friend to "leave the researching of JW history alone".
I had a friend of mine that was told by an elder to not investigate WTS history. An elderly couple had all of the old original books and magazine and he was reading them and questioning why certain things were different then than they are now. The elder told him they didn't fully have Jehovah's light like they do now and not to read it anymore. I questioned the elder that if it wasn't good to read it then why is good that they still KEEP THE BOOKS!? No answer was given.

Give Examples of How The Watchtower Implies Things Without Backing It Up
by minimus inmy mother gave me the last few watchtower and awakes when i visited her this week.....in the 1-1-04 watchtower, under the article---"jehovah's word is alive---highlights from the book of genesis---1"-------on page 29, the question is asked:"did jehovah god speak to adam directly?
" notice their answer.
"the bible reveals that when god spoke to humans, it was often through an angel.

I can't stand how the JW's say that Michael the Archangel is Jesus. Find me a scripture that says that! It says the Word was with God in the beginning and the Word was God. It says the Word created all things. That would include angels, would it not? God would not create something that was His equal, ie The Word. The Word already existed like He did and is infinte just like He is.
