"Just being seen on the street is a witness."
by seattleniceguy inremember how the witnesses used to always say that even if they didn't meet anyone home, just being seen by traffic on the street was a witness?
as if the people driving by are saying to themselves, "wow, look at those servants of the true god, bringing the waters of life to my door.
if only i weren't so bull-headed, i might listen to them and attain a good relationship with my creator.

Crazy JW Sister
by sandy inmy sister will not allow my nieces to go to the amusement park with me this weekend if my disfellowshipped niece (other sister's 20 yr. old daughter) comes along.. my family is aware that i have my doubts and complaints against the org and that i am living in sin with my boyfriend, and they still talk to me.
not that i am complaining.
i am grateful.. but i had to stick up for my df'ed niece today.

And don't you just love their reasoning for that? That it's OK for the worldly person because they don't know any better. it's worse for the JW because they KNEW the "truth". They KNEW they were disobeying God and did it anyway. So they are likened to the rebel angels following Satan. They liken those that leave because they know it's all false to the demons.

Yet, despite all this concern about how they look on the street they just love to pick on other religions about their showy dress and their attempts to impress the public in order to gain followers. Don't they love to quote the scripture that says that those who make public declarations of faith are like white-washed graves? All nice and clean on the outside but on the inside they are full of death. Have they tried to apply this to themselves I wonder?

As a JW did you "take a turkey" or accept the Xmas Bonus?
by confusedjw ini felt it hypocritical to take a turkey abviously meant for thanksgiving.
i didn't like buying the easter candy after easter either as it was "food sacrificed to idols".. years ago at a place i worked they gave out a xmas bonus which i returned.
( a few hundred dollars which we sure could have used) they assured me that it was an "end of the year" bonus.

I would take the Xmas bonuses as well as any gifts that were given to me. I just didn't care. But I've also known dubs to have a Thanksgiving dinner ON THANKSGIVING and invite the "friends" over to eat but they would say it's not really celebrating Thanksgiving. It's just taking advantage of cheaper turkey prices. One elder's family would also have alot of "friends" over on Christmas day for a party. They had a big hill that was great for sleding so all the kids would play outside all day while the adults hung out inside and "associated". No gifts were given but another BIG dinner was had by all and it was VERY reminiscent of celebrating Christmas only with the lack of gifts. My mother is the one who opened my eyes to the hypocrasy of this. She was actually pretty mad because I wouldn't celebrate the holidays (which upset her alot) but would goto these celebrations which were the same damn thing. Only it was given a different name, a different meaning and was sanitized and named as something that was acceptable.
Then I started to think that HEY! She was RIGHT! The dubs always say that no matter what name you give it, no matter how you change it's meaning, if it had pagan or spiritistic origins you could NEVER cleanse it in God's eyes. It would ALWAYS be pagan or satanic. And what are these idiots doing? They are having parties and get togethers on the SAME DAYS as these holidays and saying that it's all acceptable because of who they are (elders or snobs in good standing) and that it wasn't being done "in the spirit" of the worldly holiday. They are essentially changing it's name and it's meaning and it's OK for them to do it. But it wasn't OK for the Catholic Church to change the pagan holiday of Saturnalia into Christmas to appease the large multitude of pagans freshly converted to Christianity. This was one of the many contradictions that I logged into my brain and spewed out when confronting the elders.

Do You Feel A Spiritual Void?
by minimus inis there a "need" on your part to regain some form of spirtuality?
at this point in time, do you not want to hear anything about god, the bible, jesus, buddah, etc.?????
are you still "searching"?

If God made it more clear in what direction to go, I would follow.
EXACTLY! That's why I just go on my own understandings (You know, like Russel and Rutherford did) and be the best person I can be. Afterall, all we need is love. Isn't that what Jesus said? "You will know them by the love that they show". You can't see too much love in the WTS or its members.

Can you believe you followed this stuff and believed it?
by wizedup inmy husband and i amuse each other with recollections of the "spiritual" language, sometimes with tears of laughter.
we sometimes gasp at the thought we took all that stuff so seriously for nearly 40 and 33 years.
every meeting, we had to be there, listening to the demands for obedience, loyalty, and submission.

That thinking or speaking about anything contradictory to JW teachings meant you were an apostate and possesed by demons. It never left any room for actual free thinking did it? Don't ask questions when you start noticing the contradictions in their words and actions otherwise you're an apostate. Just tell yourself that they were wrong in the past but are now correct.
Well, they said they were right in the past. They are saying they are correct now. They were really wrong in the past. Who's to say that in the future they won't be saying that we were wrong now?

Like humans are responsible for building up the angels. COME ON!!! That's a good point though on what do JWs think of when they see the Mormons doing their streetwork. I used to get very annoyed when they would come to my door. When I first felt that way I realised how everyone else feels when WE went to their doors. That's around when I started to slow down in the FS work.

Deja Vu?
by heart2heart indo you ever experience "deja vu" - the feeling of having experienced the exact same moment before?
sometimes this happens to me - usually when it happens i can vaguely remember having a dream about it, and sometimes i can remember exactly what is going to happen next because the dream is so vivid (funny...when i remember the dream, i can remember thinking "this is going to happen...i remember this too..." deja vu of deja vu???).
does anyone know anything about deja vu or have any explanations?

It could very well be the case. Hell, our brains are firing BILLIONS of thoughts per second. Most of which we aren't even aware of. What if these feelings of deja-vu are just some of those thoughts accidentally stored and brought back up to the surface when something similar happens in real life.

Here is my theory on deja-vu.
The way the brain takes in information and translates (as far as I know) is as follows: You receive input (Say, from your eyes). This information gets sent to the translation part of your brain which figures out what the hell you're looking at. Once this is done it is sent to your consciousness to be observed by you. Once it's observed it is stored in your memory. Once it is in your memory your brain immediatley tries to find another memory that is similar to this (this is why whenever your see, hear, smell or touch anything you always tend to remember something that is similar to what you're experiencing now). This is how it should work normally.
What if deja-vu is just a glitch in this process? What if, when you look at something it happens this way instead: You recieve visual input. This information gets sent to the translation part of your brain and instead of going to your consciousness first it skips that step and goes into your memory instead. This would happen without you knowing it because it has bypassed your consciousness. Then, while still looking at the object, the process corrects itself and goes to your translator, then to your consciousness, then to your memory. Once this process happens correctly your brain then tries to dig up a memory similar to what you are currently experiencing...WHICH JUST HAPPENS TO BE WHAT YOU ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING AT. It then gives you that eerie feeling of having seen this before because, well, you HAVE! You just weren't aware of it because it began by bypassing your consciousness.
It could be this or it could be something else. There is a portion of your brain that is designed to filter out nonsense. Your brain recieves BILLIONS of sensory input information a second. If you were to be consciously aware of each and every thing you would go into sensory overload. Your consciousness couldn't handle it. So this part of your brain recieves this input first and figures out if it's something worth sharing with your consciousness. It filters out the chaos in other words. What if some of these things that are filtered out are actually dumped into your memory? And then, a split second later, this part of your brain realizes that it really wasn't useless data and decides to share it with your consciousness. Once you are consciously aware of it you dig up the closest similar memory which happens to be what was just filtered out and accidentally stored.
Does this make any sense? I hope I didn't confuse anyone.
