what is the # 1 reason people join the JW's ??? what attracts people ???
by run dont walk inbeing brought up in the borg, i always envied my friends that did not have to go in service, go to meetings, and waste their weekends away, i have never really been able to understand why someone would join the jw's unless they were born (forced) into it.
aside from maybe coming from an abusive lifestyle or relationship, or had serious drug/alcohol problems, this i could understand how the religion helped them get back on track.
so why do people join ???

well, having a part in a demonstration in the service meeting or giving a talk in the theocratic ministry school gives one the opportunity to act, be melodramatic, show a little comedic talent,etc.

I think in many ways it must be like being in the military. As long as you understand and follow "the book" and can either accept or ignore the inconsistencies and stupidities, you have a well-ordered, predictable and stable life.
Perfectly said -- the military analogy is a good one -- many people really love being in the military -- others do not understand why soemone would want to 1) risk getting killed, 2) Be bullied or have to take orders blindingly from a higher ranking officer 3) Be prepared not to be christain and kill someone if necessarry ---- etc. etc. etc. But it gives them a dicsciplines stable way of life.
The truth is no different -- and that is why some trully enjoy being witnesses despite all the glaring and obvious unscriptural and other inconsistencies

Scripturally it is wrong to deny each other intimacy (sex). Scripturally it is wroong for a man to get a woman pi---d off so she does not want sex. Scripturally there is more to a relationship than sex- I could go on. Now do not get me wrong, I am not a Watchtower apologist, but they are correct that if two people who are in a sexual relationship apply the scriptures things can be good and that includes sex-- where the WTBTS is wrong is in prying and policing peoples bedrooms -- virtually anything should go between a consenting couple --- now if the man pressured or forced the woman into other forms of sex (*n#l and @r&l for example) then again that is not christian or scriptural or loving.
Yes sex is important -- if not huge numbers of JWs would not get DFd each year -- anyone who thinks sex is not important really is living on cloud 86 or whatever

new light on churches??
by gspradling inmy very jw mother went to my daughter's wedding in a mainstream church this summer.
this is the first time i ever remember her going into a church.
she refused to attend my wedding in a methodist church and also my brother's in a mainstream church.

I have attended weddings and funerals in churches -- at one funeral a sister later tried to tell me I was in cohorts with babylon the great -- I lost it -- I called her a cold heartless bitch - and pointed out that I went to comfort the family of the bereaved in their time of need just like Jesus would have done -- I went on and on ranting and raving -- the sister was so shocked that she did not say a thing -- later reported me to the rest of the body of elders -- and like the club we were -- they supported me!!
No nothing in writing as far as I know-- all down to Conscience I think

Help, my son has turned American !
by Simon ini don't know what's happened ... but whenever he plays on the xbox driving games he now puts on a very good 'american' accent.
it is frighteningly good in fact !
the only thing we can think of is that he's picked it up from his cousin who was over a few weeks ago and they played on it together quite a bit (liam get's on really well with him even though he's about 5 years older).. on reflection i guess it is a bit more canadian than american so i am not as worried about it (

nothing wrong with people turning American, British, Canadian, Australian -- look at all the immigration statistics -- see where the majority of the worlds immigrants want to move to or are trying and risking life and limb to get into -- we of these countries must be doing something right - so when people make fun of us -- I always believe actions speaking far louder tham any words will ever do. (Sorry if that sounds nationalistic and not being no part of the world -- and not voting for gods kingdom -- it will get me disfellowshipped)

from our point of view, we are now free of the entrapments of the watchtower cult, and i feel that it is important to share this with those of you who may need an alternative to the two "official" methods of leaving: disfellowshipping or disassociation.
