1 John 4 vs 8 GOD IS LOVE -- What a story -- since god is love and they were all so unloving -- well go figure. You will both get the support you need from the great people on this board - non-judgemental also

What did you think of "Simplification" ???
by Swan ini know now what was behind many of the simplification procedures that were adopted at the assemblies over the years.
the books and food were given away to avoid tax problems.
but what did you think about it when you were a jw?.

Swan says:
That is an interesting perception. I saw it more as the organization controlling everything, like your menu, the music you listen to at intermission, etc. No room for variation. Cookie cutter assemblies. How did you see it as less control, I am really interested to know?
Take the example of pioneers -- in the 70s and early 80s they actually submitted their reports direct to the Branch offices around the world and wrote their excuse letters of why they did not get their hours that month also to the branch-- after simplification they submitted to the secretary and gave him their excuse -- in other words the local body -- so this I saw as less centralizing and more delegating -- I will come up with others -- but I stand by what I said -- in general (there are always exceptions) I saw simplification as less central control

Preaching Slowdown
by cornish in.
i can remember numerous talks and study articles about how the preaching work would get more and more intense as we near the end.. one so called prophetic illustration that stands out in my mind was when joshua and his men marched around the city each day and then just before the city fell they marched seven times signifying a quickening of the preaching work.. it seems starkingly obvious that the preaching,is in decline amonst jw's,the jw's are seen less and less often in my neighbourhood,it is very rare to see them out street witnesing around the town centres and railway stations, the average jw spends far less time preaching than a decade ago.. it seems like their chief brag is definately on the wain,in favour of other recruitment methods.

willyloman I agree 100% with you -- we all know the figures are phoney -- I am sure the WTBTS suspects they are phoney -- hell there are people like me who still report and I can tell you my figures certainly are -- I knew a sister who the entire body knew -- never out on service but used to claim auxilliary hours each month -- what were we to do -- call her a liar -- we could never prove it

JW and Christianity..
by cutenconfuzed422 inhey, i'm new to this site, but i'm looking for the big differences between christianity and jehovah's witnesses.
i would like any information you have, and references to it if you have references.
thanks a lot.

That is a massive subject -- if I can summarize in a sentence the big diff between JW and Christianity is JWs do not believe in the Trinity nor in Hell Fire -- main stream christianity does. JWs are agggresive proselytizers main stream christainity is not -- there are of course exceptions. Doctrinal changes ar emany --Read Ray Franz Book Crisis Of Conscience as a good starting point

Take the Staten Island ferry -- it is free anyway. Also the UN building is worth a visit -- and Times Square -- also Chinatown at night -- some real cheap and good food there. From Ground Zero it is 2 to 3 minutes maximum walk to Wall Street - NYC what a place

Do you miss the Kingdom Melodies?
by Candlestick02 injust curious.
i went to the 3rd church that i've ever stepped foot into after leaving the borg 3 years ago.
so, as i'm standing there (in the front row, i might add) for the musical worship portion of the service.. i felt like a big idiot.
