what songs or groups were you forbidden to listen to as a jw?

were any specifically mentioned from the platform or were you counseled not to listen to a certain song?

for me it was the entire def leopard hysteria album - bad heavy metal told it was demonic, i listened to it in secret, silk's "freak me" - a virgin listening to a song about hot sex?

i just had a really bad day at work.

apart from what you'd normally expect from a 15 hr shift, tonight vitually everything that could go wrong did.

when i got home i decided to have a drink(the first since emans barbie!!!

As an elder or MS, how did you NOT see it, or did you just fake it ???

i find it fascinating, i never had a position in the congregation, .

how does an elder, who sees all the flipflops in doctrine, the special body of elders letters and publications, and jc, and elders meetings, not see that the watchtower is full of ----, .

did judical commitees, and elders meetings take a toll on you ???

I saw it all along believe it or not -- I had even read COC by Ray Franz -- but I just said to myself -- whereelse is there for me to go lord as Peter said to Jesus. I also enjoyed the extra priviledges -- but it eventually got to me -- drained me emotionally and took its toll on family and family life -- I resigned as an elder and started to fade gradually -- I am still in -- in good standing (or relatively good) -- the enew system is always "just around the corner -- very close" and that is what seems to keep most going -- how long this will last is anyone's guess.

how many of you have had to keep up the facade on the outside,while on the inside you were dying?.

the facade being putting on a happy face in front of the elders and others while knowing what you know about the society and all the harm it has done.. how long did you keep up this facade before it began to affect your well-being?.

for me it lasted about a couple of years before i started to do the fade and have started to feel better.. blueblades

rocketman says I put it up for about 5 years, a couple as an elder and then as a reggie pub, until I became inactive. With all the demands of that religion, putting up a facade is very draining. I have been doing it for about 6 years now -- 2 of them as an elder - I keep going and putting on the facade -- very draining on emotions - no question.
