This is a great question. If I knew all the ramifications I would have sprinted out of the convention center with my hands covering my ears! Of course I do have a lovely 18 year old daughter from a J-dud (adulterous) ex wife. The girl was raised by me. And at 13 she was approached by the Elders about getting Baptized. She never made it through the questions. She kept hammering the Elders on the difference between what they said and what actually when on in the Cong. She saw all the hypocrisy by the young people. Most of these young people were the Elders and Servants kids. She told me this winter, (five years later), when we were on vacation that one Elder, (a guy wrote me a bad check last year), told her she had a bad attitude and he would be happy not to see her at the Hall! This same clown would get on me about her not coming to the Hall. So on the one hand I had something to show for the 25 years of stupidity and my daughter will not have to suffer as a slave to the Governing Body. On the other hand my ex still tries to lay all the guilt on her when they get together. Funny thing is, the Ex,( who was a truth baby), is in good standing and I'm the big bad apostate. Well I am an apostate to the GoverningBodyGod! Maverick

Did You Really Understand What You Were Getting Into When You Got Baptized?
by minimus inthe majority of people who become jehovah's witnesses, really have no idea what they've gotten themselves into.
did you truly understand those baptismal vows that you made?

Hey folks, seem my posting privileges have been restricted. I guess I've been a bad boy. Dedalus and I had some cool interactions but I guess the fun is over. I can't post any comments on existing topics. Am I just feeling persecuted or are others having trouble too? I sent in the Baptism Nullification letter and have been waiting for the CO's visit. Well he is here this week and the PO left a message on my voice mail. He was all sweet and friendly and said he was just checking in on me as he had not seen me in awhile, ( a year and a half ). I put a message on his voice mail asking him why he was bothering me and why would I care if the corporate inspector general was visiting his Hall? I was not a member, not now, not ever, so stop bothering me. Today I sent copies of the BN letter to him and the CO, (I never sent them ones when I did the mass mailout). I was Dissin them. I put a note on the PO's letter telling him not to pester me and as that far as I was concerned spiritually he was just some retired grocery clerk! The note I put on the CO's letter stated that we both knew he was just a corporate inspector whose job it was to make sure corporate policy was followed to the letter. And I asked him if he ever had a real job? I will try to keep you posted on this. Hey, maybe Dedalus was right, my BN letter may be a distinction without a difference. I will be honest and try to keep everyone up to date. That alone puts me one up on the criminals at Brooklyn. Maverick, in the doghouse???

Disfellowshiping and Title 7
by Maverick inany legal eagles out there have any thoughts on the potential success of a class action lawsuit against the watchtower for their written corporate policy on the treatment of disfellowshipped people?
does their policy fall under religious discrimination as outlined in title 7 of the federal anti-discrimination statues?
i am sure there are many df'd people who have lost jobs and housing and suffered mental anguish as a result of the restrictions of interacting with loves ones and family members.

I want to thank Oroborus 21 for the information on TitleVII. My older brother is a retired Police Chief and I had sent him a copy of my Baptism Nullification letter and he asked me this question this morning. I posted the same question on channelc so I will refer the interested ones to your comments. I was sure someone must have thought about this angle before but I didn't have a ready answer. I would like to knock a hole in the Df'ing and DA'ing policies of the GB. I believe once this is done their hold on the minds of the membership will be greatly reduced. But I am a dreamer I guess! Yours, Maverick

Dear Dedalus: I missed you! I so look forward to you following me around to nip at my heels. You are more fun than the whole Mensa discussion group I attend. But in all fairness I did not disapprove of your dissension, just your condescension. I am past taking bullying by academic types. I'll go toe to toe with anyone if I feel tread upon. I'll sure I'll be hearing from you, cut and paste away! Maverick p.s. I think you are great!

Just How Dysfunctional Are We?
by Englishman ini've noted that one of our ex-members believes that the vast majority of posters to this site are, in his opinion, worthy of the label of being "dysfunctional".. for what it's worth, i believe that some persons, especially those who have exited the witnesses fairly recently, may well be a little naive and probably somewhat immature also.
from my own observations i have seen how maturation virtually ceases when anyone becomes overly committed to a belief system.
once someone leaves that belief system, then their maturation continues afresh and goes into over-drive as the person strives to "catch up" and eventually feel comfortable in relatively normal society.. so no, i don't think that many of us are dysfunctional at all.

I must say one of the reasons I enjoy this interaction is to "see" from differing veiwpoints.Outofhteorg brought up a point I had never even considered. I was 24 when I first started to "study" with the J-duds. I had been through college and had a job as an artist and lived on my own. So I had established myself in the world. I cannot imagine what it must be like to growup and be totally immuresed in that culture. To have nothing but the culture and no idea how to integrate into non-witness society. I do remember a young man who left Bethel comming into the Cong. and not knowing how to register a car or open a bank account. I just thought he was goofy! But now I see it is part of the "control"! How I Help The Society Fake Its Statistics

Dear Metatron; I never just made up time, but I never agreed with their( GB ) strict interpretation of what is acceptable service to God. Time with the son of a young widow (she was in the other room) or reading or writing letters for elderly sisters in a nursing home and any other "christian acts" were counted. I loved the shepherding work and always counted that. I thought that was more important that the door to door work. Even calling ones who were missing from the meetings or calling ones who gave a good part in the school or service meeting was counted. And I can't count the number of times the "friends" told me I was the only person to ever call them to tell them they did a good job on a meeting part! And some of these were oldtimers. I always called those missing from my book study. Even when I was no longer the book study conductor I would write down the names of my book study members who were not there and I called them after the meetings. And I called my book study conductor over 30 times when he was not at some meeting. And not to "check up' on him or any of them but to tell them they were missed and that I was thinking of them. When I finally started to "see" and stopped going my book study conductor called me just once. And he was the only one who did. He came right out and told me he would not ask what was up with me. But I digress. I now see counting "time" is a joke. But even before I did I guess I thought the Governing Body was!

Exposure and involvement in the J-dud lifestyle and belief system will cause an active member to be disfunctional. The "Society" fosters an inability to function with family, neighbors, workmates and employers, governments, and did I leave anyone out? Yes! With others members! In formulaic terms; the degree of functionality( ability to socially interact in a healthy positive manner with others) is conversly proportionate to the amount of time and intensity of personal investment inside the WatchTower world. In other words, "The longer we are outside the "Societal" influence the better!" Maverick

Dear Blade: I wrote the Baptism Nullification letter posted by Blackguard in the friends forum. I sent this letter to every witness I knew that I could get addresses of. We are talking a lot of people in 25 years. I have also been in contact with a DF'd bro that I "studied" with years ago. He wants to leave them after he is reistated. He feels this will clear his name. I have a hard time following his logic but if that works for him great. I have sent letters to various ones I knew who have been gossiped about and one sister who was abandoned by the friends during her divorce. She was real upset with the Elders. I have a few witnesses that keep me informed as to what is going on in the local Halls. And my plan is to reach out to any that start to "see" what is going on. I don't know if I will do any good but I do care for these people and want to help free them from their imprisonment. As for my BN letter, 30 days and all is quiet. Maverick
