This is a fair question, and welcome. One of the lines of reasoning the J-dud use is, who taught you all these things? We did! But, that presupposes that what you have been taught is right. And is it? They claim "all" their teaching is right and has Gods approval. There is some truth in all the doctrines published in the world. And there is a lot of crap. The J-dud fall in this same arena. And doctrine is just a part of the picture. They leave out the social and emotional controls that this closed society enforce within the membership. They require that you buy the whole program. Leave your brain at the door. If you are happy with the duds, good for you. The very though of sitting in a Kingdumb Hall and listening to their drivel makes me weary. Maverick

Through everything... do you feel that you learned soemthing?
by anotheropenviewpoint ini am new to the board and have read countless gripes and pokes at "the organization" but i fail to find one interesting question.. in preface... i was disfellowshiped myself over 5 years ago.
in that time, i had done much searching, visited many churches and faithes.. going to some for as short as one session and some as long as 6 - 8 months.
after i felt my search was in vein i stopped attempting to go to these shurches all together.. i never forgot how to pray through.

This reminded me of this little old lady who was reading headstones while wandering back to her car after visiting her late husbands grave. She stopped at one which read "Here lies John Clark a Lawyer and an honest man."Wow! Imagine that!" She exclaimed "They buried two men in the same grave!" Maverick

How do you react to being complimented?
by Maverick inas witnesses we were told to "be lowly of mind".
and though the corporation has no problem tooting its own horn, it was always in bad form for the rf to do that.
as a business owner i know that self-promotion is essential for success.

I suspect a lot of ladies will dismiss and man saying something nice to them. I get in cocky moods and will just say something to a total stranger and then walk away. I have stopped women, pointed at there feet and said," Nice shoes!" And then walked off. They tend to giggle. I often praise their nails. I notice everything, hair, nails, eye color, outfits, etc. When I see someone who looks just smashing, I see no reason not to tell them. But I tend to be distrustful of women who do the same to me. Go figure. Maverick

As Witnesses we were told to "be lowly of mind". And though the Corporation has no problem tooting its own horn, it was always in bad form for the RF to do that. As a business owner I know that self-promotion is essential for success. And, while keeping the embellishments to a minimum, it is important to project pride and self-confidance in ones abilities, and that the product or service provided is worth the price being asked. And though I mask it, I still find it hard to take compliments and praise. I have learned to be gracious, but inside I feel uncomforable.
How do you feel about compliments? Do you look to praise others? Are you distrustful of the kind words from others, thinking they have an ulterior motive? I try to live by Ben Franklin's expression,"I speak ill of no one, but tell all the good I know!" My one exception to that is the J-dud Masters, of course! Maverick

Yes I believe in God...it is people I don't believe in! I have a t-shirt that has "Beer is proof God love us and wants us to be happy" written on it. That's all the proof I need! Maverick

Elders passing the buck
by Maverick inone night while riding as a observer with my police officer older brother, we got a 'fight at bar' call.
seem this young, dark curly haired, new york italian ran the pool table on some red necked, local boys.
they, still being piss about the war of northern aggression, did what young, inarticulate, inebriated, men do when a yankee shows them up, four of them grab the fellow and beat the snot out of him right next to the pool table.

One night while riding as a observer with my police officer older brother, we got a 'fight at Bar' call. Then they carried him to the door and dumped him on the sidewalk outside the entrance, then they went and sat at the bar and forgot all about him. When we arrived this guy was leaning over the hood of his car. After getting all the facts and making sure the guy was going to live, my brother told the guy he should not have been in this dumpy Bar. He should go to this place called City Lights. My brother told our victim that, unlike this place, the ladies are nice and have teeth and the dudes all wear shinny, cool looking clothes like him! He was so releaved, imagining he was about to spend the night in some Mayberry/Macon County type jail, he told my brother that he was the nicest cop he had ever run into! We followed him, in silence, a few blocks to make sure he beat it! When I could stand it no more I asked," Why did you tell this Yankee to go to City Lights?" His reply" Not my jurisdiction!"
I know I took the long-way-round the barn, but here's my point: The Elders in the Halls I went to would often blow some of the friends off and ignore them hoping they would leave,(move) then these people would be some other group of Elders problem.
I my own case, I was sent by the CO to a Hall that needed experienced brothers. After three years, my wife wanted to get out of that Hall. I was giving Instruction Talks, Bible Highlights, service Meeting parts and was a Book Study conductor. I was sure the brothers would not be too happy with us leaving. So I told my wife that I would bring in up at the next Elders meeting, thinking they would be opposed and that would end this. When I mentioned that we were thinking of leaving, these guys could not shake my hand fast enough! They all wished us well where ever we were going! Boy, Mr Stupid-head really was oblivious! I never was an Elder again after that. Turned in down twice. Anyone else experience this? Maverick

The ups and downs of being a short guy
by Maverick ini recognized at a young age that most women prefer men that are taller than themselves.
i read somewhere that this is in part due to taller men make women feel safe and feminine.
makes sense to me.

Date killer?
by Maverick inwhen you are seeing someone, what will turn you off or cause you to want to give the other person the flick?
i have talked to a number of female friends and they agree weak or 'sparkless' kissing is a killer.
(see thread on kissing) for me...and i know this sounds shallow... lousy sex is a killer.

I'll give a lady three 'encounters'. If she is still a mannequin,( inanimate, stiff and silent) with no improvement...color me gone! Good sex is just too important. If I can't warm her up, then it is better we both just move on! Maverick
