"Fear and loathing" blew my sixteen year old mind.
Imagine a freshly baptised nerdy witness kid reading such things!
Tsk tsk..

man that sucks bad...i believe he was one of the great writers of all time..and he partied like hell too!.
denver, colorado (ap) -- hunter s. thompson, the acerbic counterculture writer who popularized a new form of fictional journalism in books like "fear and loathing in las vegas," fatally shot himself sunday night at his aspen-area home, his son said.
he was 67.. "hunter prized his privacy and we ask that his friends and admirers respect that privacy as well as that of his family," juan thompson said in a statement released to the aspen daily news.. pitkin county sheriff bob braudis, a personal friend of thompson, confirmed the death to the news.

And at the chime of a city clock
Put up your road block
Hang on to your crown
For a stone in a tin can
Is wealth to the city man

interesting book by john krakauer, about the mormons.. i'm only through chapter 7, but what an interesting (in a perverse sorta way) read.. anybody have any personal knowledge of colorado city, or bountiful (aka lister)?.
craig
Craig,
Read it a few months ago..the comparisons with WT life are pretty interesting.
I heard Krakauer (sp?) and some head honcho of the LDS church talking about his book on npr a while ago. The LDS leader kept emphasizing that the Fundie LDS people were not sanctioned by the church.
I thought it was a good read,

don't we all love our freedom of speech?
i miss the days when i was growing up when rock groups, singer/songwriters and other types of entertainers spoke out against racism, the vietnam war, etc.
it felt to me like people were more passionate about making the world a better and more fair place.
I would have to say this lovely little number by Love from 'Forever changes'
THE DAILY PLANET
In the morning we arise and
start the day the same old way
as yesterday the day before and
all in all it's just a day like
all the rest so do your best with
chewing gum and it is oh so
repetitious
waiting on the sun
Down on go-stop boulevard it
never fails to bring me down
the sirens and the accidents and
for a laugh there's plastic Nancy
She's real fancy with her children
They'll go far, she
buys them toys to
keep in practice
waiting on the war
I feel shivers in my spine
when the iceman, yes his ice is melting
won't be there on time
hope finds a rhyme
for his little mind

"The Flutes of The Chi" by Ween
Everything that you are,
that you'd like to be
Will come in three, my friend
Times thine inequity
The flutes of the chi
Will sound again, my friend
Wrap yourself up in gold,
The fruits of the old,
Are ripe to be told, my friend
For it's not what you are,
How you've come to be
All this will end and begin again
