I haven't seen this commercial, but I'm sure it's up there with the fantastic Noah video, featuring the worst animation I've ever seen, and that cornball drama with the Latino men dressed up as "Israelites."

we were just watching er rerun episodes back to back...after the second episode finished chachasmum and i saw an advertisement for the jws.
it started out showing a teenage girl on the computer like she was in a chat room...and it was showing her write love notes to someone whom she thought might be a teenage boy...and a voice over said something like...parents protect your children...then it showed an old, fat man with a bottle of beer, sitting back typing on the computer...then all of a sudden it said, "teach your children knowledge, wisdom and thinking ability"...it caught my ear and i looked closer at the bottom of the screen it read: christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses...and gave a 1-800 number.
looks like they are stealing the mormons' pitch.

i have been lurking for about a year now.
finally i have taken the plunge and registered.
i wanted to say hi and thanks to everyone, it has been good to see i am not alone.
Welcome!
I'm pretty new too, and I think you will really enjoy the viewpoints expressed here. I can't count the number of times I've read posts and thought, "Yeah, I've felt that way too!"
Enjoy, you are among friends,

do you folks remember that section in the reasoning book?
i recall several service meeting parts where we were supposed to "keep pitching" after someone said, "i'm not interested.
cute, catchy little zingers like, "well our message is geared for busy people.".

One Saturday morning the householder said "I'm not interested." and I thought I would push it a little bit and try to overcome the conversation stopper. I asked, "Is it religion in general you are not interested in, or the bible?"
They shot back, "I'm not interested in YOU being HERE, now LEAVE!"
I got the hell out of there, and decided that if someone said they were busy or not interested, it didn't mean, "Please tell me more."

i had the surprise of my life yesterday when i got home from work and played the message on my machine.
it was one of my five brothers.
all of whom i havent spoken to but a handful of times over the years.
I hope things work out and the relationships are mended! It sounds like some REAL, natural love is being shown.

just wanna take a little diversion from the current events happening.
i'm watching my favorite old movie of all time right now.
"on the waterfront" with marlon brando.
Just finished watching "Sunset Blvd." Excellent! My current old favorite.

"ready for my close-up..."
this story is from two melbourne, australia newspapers, march 15, 2003. upon first hearing this story i was saddened.
my mind wandered off subject for a moment as i recalled how similar this story is to real life in the watchtower culture.
perhaps some of you here can relate to this:-.
Sounds like totally conditional (and conditioned) love. That's really a sad story, it makes me want to reach out to my neighbors more. Not just on a Saturday morning.

maybe this irked you in the past?
i had a hard time convincing--nay, believing--that we lived in such baaaad times.
jws have the belief that times are bad, so we had the task of convincing the householders of that.

screw the religion, live for life!!
The freedom is totally worth it. It's cliche' but the weight is lifted from your shoulders!
More power to you in your new life!

when i was replying to nicolas' question in another thread, i used the following scripture to show why jws are always so tired:"the scribes and the pharisees have seated themselves in the seat of moses.
therefore all the things they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds, for they say but do not perform.
they bind up heavy loads and put them upon the shoulders of men, but they themselves are not willing to budge them with their finger.
My baptism present was a bong.
Just kidding, it was a big old service bag. Perfect for the jet-setting young witness on the go!
I always thought it would be cool to carry some back issues from the 70's and 80's and try to place them. Remember the cheap newsprint paper and crappy graphics?
