"Rice Christians"

ever hear of the term "rice christians"?

this is the term given to many christians in poor countries, a church comes in and begins to open up soup kitchens, schools and hospitals in hopes of attracting members.

the people go only because of the food they receive, since rice is cheap, they call them "rice christians,"

Maybe the WT missionaries are using a food-reward-learning system.

Learn to say "Jehovah" in English.........1 Swiss miss pudding (vanilla or chocolate.)

Learn to quote Matt 24:14....................1 Cheese or Apple danish.

Prepare a presentation.........................1 Roast beef sandwich wrapped in plastic. (No mayo included.)

Give your first talk in the village Kingdom Hall.....2 danish and a fruit bag.

...mmm danish.

Sad again at the Service Meeting

the service meeting on thursday was really saddening, particularly the last part, about preaching with boldness.

it was about overcoming nervousness, shyness, etc in the ministry.. all these people gave their experiences about difficulties they had in the ministry.

a regular pioneer (and elder's wife) admitted that she used to just pretend to ring the door bells; service is still really difficult for her, but she does it just because she feels obligated to.

Geez, it wasn't hard to conjure up those feelings of stress just thinking about walking up to that first door..ugh!

I didn't hate service, but I didn't really try that hard to convince the householder of anything. I just figured, I'm here, doing my job, I've got these magazines, If they want them, they can have them.

I really feel for all the poor souls being guilted into service. The talks, and articles designed to motivate usually include the guilt-experience tactic.

"Brother Disabled preaches to others by banging his head against the back of his chair, sending the kingdom message out in morse code to any that will listen."

Then you as a healthy publisher are supposed to compare yourself with loyal Brother Disabled, and feel like an ass for being apprehensive in the ministry.

just thought id say hi.... my name is sens, ive been out almost 3 months...(da).

i only know 2 other ex.jw 's ... so feel sort of isolated...(not that i didn't when i was still in the org but anyway...lol).

i actually have one question....whats the deal with the un thing?.

Congrats on being officially out. I've been DA'd for about 6 months or so, and it was the best decision I have ever made...that lonely feeling will go away with some time..

well, the last few weeks have been entertaining... and they have reminded me that i have built up my life to a point where "former jw" is pretty low on the list of my defining attributes.

and that's good.. while i want to serve as a support for those re-creating themselves after leaving, i think the best way that i can do that is by being happy, successful, and fulfilled, rather than letting "former jw" move back to the top of the list.

farewell, all, and remember - living well is the best revenge.. love and doughnuts,.
