This weekend I finished an amazing graphic novel, "Safe Area Gorazde, the war in Eastern Bosnia 1992-95" by Joe Sacco. I finished it in one sitting, totally amazing!

imho one of the best publications the wtbts has ever released -- it actually gave useful background information on other religions.
i honestly would recommend that people have a copy on theor bookshelves.
however, it has never been studied -- either at congregation book studies, in the theocratic ministry school as instruction talk material -- why?
One more thought! "Mankind's Search..is still just one religion's take on all the others. It's not just an unbiased overview of world religions. They are leading people to their own version of truth. But of course this is my post-witness view!

I always wondered why we didn't study it at the bookstudy as well. Maybe the FDS thought if their sheep were exposed to such a variety of ideas about God they would jump ship. I dunno!

just got a look at the new jw calendar for 2004.. usually it's nauseating crap about preaching the good news around the globe, or like last year's effort, about how the 'truth' changes people from axe-weilding maniacs to nice christian family men.. this year's calendar is ok though.
no comments at all about how wonderful jehovah's witnesses are, in fact no editorial at all, just reasonable quality nature photos and a snipet of scripture about the beauty of nature or god's qualities.. .
these are probably suitable for the general public too - next time the jws visit ask them for some for you to give out as christmas presents!
Dmouse, I don't know if I would say "good", how about, "sucks less" ;-)

This year's calendar is so lame. It has those pictures of ex-punks and hippies that are now part of the bland new world society. The part that cracked me up was the photo of the punk guy, and in his bio it said something like, "...he even got a tattoo that reflected his belief in anarchy." Then it shows him in his "new life" as a chubby Husband in a primary colored shirt washing dishes in the suburbs. The extremes are pretty funny.

as you may or may not know, some jw elders may resent some of their music thier children may listen to.. put simply, a 'death growl' is often viewed as a warped version of satan.
the band opeth use such death grow, however, are not satanic, with one reference to 'demon of the fall' (one of their songs).
they also combine death vocals with beautiful vocals, possibly the best in the business, alongside maynard james kennan (a perfect circle).
I'm not sure if I've heard the 'death growl' in any song before. I have heard some bands that sound like cookie monster from Sesame Street is singing. I bought the new Killing Joke album, and at times Jaz Coleman does sound like the blue, furry, sweet-toothed muppet.
