I served on a jury while being a JW when I was 22. I was told that it was a conscience matter. I decided to do it. No one gave my any problems over it. Fortunately, I was in a liberal congregation at the time, and the elders weren't so rigid. The congreagtion that I had been in a couple of years earlier would have tried to make the decision for me, and I would have been in trouble if I had served.
Maybe it depends on the personality of the elders/cong. as to whether or not it's acceptable.

how many of you have been in therapy after leaving the jws?
did it help ?
I'm just finishing up therapy after a few years of it. It changed my whole life for the good. It saved my life, actually. I used to hate the Witnesses for what they did to my me and my family. Now, i can honestly say that i don't hate them any more; i feel sorry for them. I have no more guilt or shame, and I know who I am. I cannot say enough good about therapy.

i recently gave up studying with the witnesses after they told me off for going sailing with my family!

That was a very sad, shocking poem. It was also very beautiful! ...words from the soul. It makes me very angry when I think of the WT's inhuman cruel policies.
I was never raped, but I am reminded of something a pioneer sister (I hate using their terms ) said to me when I was 15: she told me that I should be careful not to ever do anything that would excite a brother () so much that he would rape me. She said that men, when excited, cannot control themselves, and that it would be my fault. This "sister" is the one who studied with me, so you can imagine all of the garbage that she had me believing (double !!).

t's thread and some life experiences have got me to wondering about this.
i honestly am not sure if i know what a nice guy/woman is (odd thing to admit, half way through my life).
the wts defined nice guy as spiritual, striving to "take the lead", putting jehovah first in all things, a "responsible family head"(open to the interpretation of local needs, lol).a nice woman is above all, submissive, putting jehovah and hubby first, and hard working.
A nice guy: someone who does not intentionally harm himself or other people. He is someone who has self-esteem who respects himself and other people. He is someone who cares enough about the environment and world problems that he has made some adjusts in his own life so as to not contribute to the worsening of either. I don't see him as being a fanatic with issues. I've seen too many people go to extremes and become fundamentalistic (is that a word?). Being all of these things, he would probably be a mature and responsible person.
I guess that sums it up for me.

were/are any of these issues related to you being a jw?
do you feel many dubs still in "the truth" have mental health issues but are afraid to seek treatment from a "worldly" psychologist or psychiatrist?.

I was diagnosed with ADD (innatentive) three years ago. I am also being treated for depression. I take medication for both, and it has really made a difference. Are you being treated for ADD? It took about two years to get the right mix of medicine that worked the best, but I could tell a difference especially in college classes. When taking notes, I could finally remember the whole sentence when writing it down.

I remember when my radio alarm woke me up at nine something in the morning, and I heard it announced that there had been a plane crash into one of the WTC buildings. I jumped up and turned on CNN to find out more. Early on, they were thinking that it was probably an accident, then some reporter/guy made the remark that maybe it was terrorist activity. The others didn't think so at the time, and neither did I. I thought it was just silly to assume that there would be from terrorist activity - not in this country! Then the second plane hit the building! That's when my heart sank. I knew it was no accident. Still watching the news, I picked up the phone and called family and friends. I remember feeling scared, angry, sad and sick all at the same time as the story unfolded.
I am thankful that this kind of tragedy hasn't happened again in the U.S since, but there's a possibility that it could. I'm so glad to see all of these 9/11 threads because i was beginning to forget.
