I do believe the Bible to be inspired. I do believe in God, Jesus and the resurection. I do not believe any organization has a claim to absolute truth. I think that the Bible was written a long time ago and that God allows some changes with time, but basic truth does not change. For instance in Bible times women were to bare children, sew, cook, take care of the household. I think that God understands that today, we as women, cannot possibly take care of all that as most of us are working full and more time jobs. These sort of things I think change. Debate, no I am not debating with anyone. I can still find scriptures. I think the "whole truth" is summed up in Jesus' words "Love thy God with your whole heart, and love thy neighbor, on these commands the whole law lays."

Hey Twink, They should see some of my skirts now. I like short skirts. I never did look good in knee length dresses. I either like them long or short and I really like short in the summer. I know there was times when I was still going that I would get the looks of "oh my" because when I sat down the dress would come above the knee. And do you remember the days when long skirts with really long slits were the fashion. I loved those, but heard many of talk about how inappropriate they were. I was counselled a couple of times personally about my slit skirts. My Mom would sew them up and I would "accidently" rip them loose, lol.

Alternatives to JWism
by gitasatsangha ini know most witnesses leave indivudually, and some, like me, want nothing to do with their theology afterwords, but i am curious, sometimes, why there hasn't been more of a schim or general exedus over much of the more recent stupidity at wtbs.
i was thinking that it was because there was no alternative to the iron grip of the gb, for those who believe in the many of the jw things but have no recourse except the authoritative structure, but the bible student groups that did not kowtow to rutherford have been around since the twenties.
i don't know much about them, but i met a few bible students and they were nice.

Should a 78-year-old pioneer?
by NewYork44M inhere is the situation.
i found out that my 78-year-old mother-in-law is aux pioneering this month.
she should not be driving at all and especially not with other people in the car.

If you feel she is not capable of driving any longer, maybe you could just drop an annonomous note addressed to the Elder body? It would probably be for her best and anyone else in the car.

Caligirl: I like your idea about just saying "Thank you". I was chatting with my Mom this morning and she wanted to ask me a question..she didn't want to offend me though..she asked if it were possible that I had rebellious streak and didn't care if I offended anyone...me..not me rebellious..lol..

Hello, I am Vivamus' Mum and new to the board
by Country_Woman ini am vivamus' mum, and i have heard so much about you, that i'd like to meet you all myself.
i joined the witnesses in 1998, but i have always doubted the organization, but not the faith.
i am still jehovah's witness, but i am sure that the elders will kick me out as soon as possible, should they know what my real thoughts about the organization are.

Since leaving the org..what do you do with the time that you now have free?
by MoeJoJoJo inafter quitting meeting attendance, study for meetings and field service we gain alot of time.
i wasn't used to having that time to just do nothing and i've never been used to doing just nothing (relaxing and having time to stop and smell the roses).
so i joined the pto, my kids signed up for sports, i became a parent volunteer at the school, i became a coach and the list goes on.

It still seems like I am busy all of the time. But I joined some sports, made some friends, ect..but I am still very busy. But at least I get to choose what I am busy with. What I do not miss, is having to stress about putting talks together. I always waited to the last minute and then had to make the time to get it together somehow. I am not very good at sitting still and such. I am a true sales person by nature, so I am not much into researching for talks. I am so happy not to have to do that anymore.

Nina, actually the dress has a built in slip, so I guess skipping the slip is not optional, lol. But I will say that I do not intend to walk in there, it has been a year, since I have been at the Hall, and hang my head, sit in the back and act humble. I am going to smile, extend my hand and say I am doing great. I am also sitting mid way up. I know how they expect inactive ones to act and I am not acting as if I am wrong and ever so humble. I have a right to live my life how I like. Maybe I will wear the dress and dye my hair a shade blonder than it already is. lol, I really don't want to make a scene or statement but will not play the beaten inactive one either. Sandy, the Memorial this year is the 16th. I may have said the wrong date in my original post. But is Wednesday, the 16th.

While A Witness, Did You Ever Date A "Worldly Person"?
by minimus inhow many here ever dated a "worldly" person, while still a jw?
-
goofy
Yes, I did. I even married a Worldly guy. Divorced now though and dated worldly guys after that too. Passed up on many good opportunities though when my conscience was "working" at points in my life. My only regret is that I didn't date some of the worldly guys I passed up when I thought I was being good.
